Baked-on oven soil is carbon, not dirt. Fat polymerises at roasting temperatures into a hard brown film that no amount of effort shifts, which is why an oven clean is mostly chemistry and waiting rather than scrubbing. A dedicated clean strips the appliance down: racks, runners, trays and grill pan out to soak, the fan cover and back plate off where the model allows, the door glass separated so the space between the panes can be reached, then the cavity treated and rinsed until the water comes off clean.
An oven interior is already included in our deep cleaning and end of tenancy cleaning, and for a reasonably maintained appliance that is enough. This page is a different depth, and the honest boundary is dismantling. Inside a whole-property clean the oven gets an hour or so and is cleaned as it stands. Booked on its own it gets the door apart, the back plate off and the removable parts soaking for as long as they need. If an oven has been left for years, book it as its own job rather than hoping a general clean absorbs it.
What is included
The oven itself
- Cavity roof, floor, sides and back, treated and left to dwell rather than scoured
- Fan cover and back plate removed where the model allows, and the housing behind it degreased
- Door glass separated where the panes come out, so the space between them is cleaned
- Door seal cleaned around rather than soaked, because a saturated seal perishes
- Racks, side runners, trays and the grill pan lifted out and soaked, not wiped in place
- Interior light lens, fascia, controls and door handle
- Rinsed repeatedly, so nothing smokes the first time you use it
Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item
- Gas hobs: burner caps, crowns, pan supports and the tray underneath, all soaked separately
- Ceramic and induction: burnt sugar and boil-over taken off with a blade held flat, then polished
- Extractor canopy inside and out, and the grease trap where there is one
- Metal mesh filters degreased in solution, which is the part holding most of the grease
- Charcoal filters checked and reported, since those are replaced rather than cleaned
- Microwave interior, roof plate, turntable and door seal
How the job is left
- Floor and worktop protected before anything is opened or applied
- Existing damage photographed and pointed out before we start, not after
- Freestanding cookers pulled out where safe, so the sides and the gap are done
- The housing the oven sits in, and the plinth below it
- Everything reassembled in the right order, including the glass, and the door checked for closure
- Usable straight away, with no waiting period and no smell on first heat
What is not included
- Catalytic liners, which are cleaned by heat and are ruined by caustic or scrubbing
- Pyrolytic cavity enamel, for the same reason, though everything the cycle misses is still done
- Inner door panes on models where they are bonded or not user-removable
- Disconnecting a hardwired oven or hob, or moving a gas cooker off its bayonet fitting
- Repair: chipped enamel, cracked glass, perished seals, failed elements, worn fan bearings
- Rust, which is damage to the metal rather than something sitting on it
- Commercial kitchen extract ductwork and canopies, which is TR19 work
Two of those are worth understanding rather than just accepting. Catalytic and pyrolytic surfaces are engineered coatings that deal with grease by heat, and a caustic product or a scouring pad destroys them permanently, so they are a replacement part rather than a cleaning problem. Commercial extract ductwork is inspected against TR19 and certificated for insurance, which is a specialism with its own qualification; ask any contractor quoting for it to show you theirs.
How long it takes
| Property | Our team | On your own |
|---|---|---|
| Single built-in oven | 1.5 to 2 hours | 2 to 3 hours |
| Double oven or built-in oven and separate grill | 2 to 3 hours | 4 to 5 hours |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | 3 to 4 hours | Most of a day |
| Aga or similar heat storage cooker | Half a day, off and cold | A day, and the enamel is easily damaged |
| Hob, extractor or microwave added to an oven booking | 20 to 45 minutes each | 1 to 2 hours each, with soaking |
Most of that is dwell time rather than effort, which is why several appliances in one visit take far less than the sum of their separate times. The right-hand column is one person doing it themselves, which usually still leaves the door glass and the fan housing untouched.
What oven cleaning costs in Nottingham
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Nottingham. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
How an oven cleaning job runs
Inspected and photographed before anything is applied
Cracked or chipped enamel, a crazed inner pane, a perished door seal and a bulb that has already blown are all recorded and shown to you first. We also check whether the liners are catalytic and whether the inner glass comes out on your model, because both change what happens next.
It comes apart before it gets cleaned
Racks, side runners, trays and the grill pan out. Fan cover and back plate off where they are designed to come off. Door glass separated if the model allows it. Most of the grease in a fan oven sits behind the back plate and around the fan, not on the surfaces you can see through the door.
Parts soak, the cavity dwells
Removable parts go into heated solution and stay there while the cavity is treated in place. Nothing is scoured. Softened deposits come off with a plastic scraper, never metal and never wire wool, because a scratch in vitreous enamel holds grease afterwards and eventually rusts.
The door is treated as its own job
Both faces of every pane, in order, then reassembled the right way round, since the panes are orientated and often coated on one side. This is the part a customer, a buyer or an inventory clerk actually looks at, and it is the part most quick cleans skip because it means dismantling the door.
Rinsed until the water comes off clean
Six or seven passes with clean water is normal. Caustic residue left in the corners and around the seal smokes the first time the oven is heated, which reads as a job not finished, and it is the single most common complaint about a cheap oven clean.
Reassembled, checked and left usable
Seals refitted, racks and runners back, door closure checked, glass polished, the housing and the floor left clean. No standing time: you can cook in it the same evening.
When to book it
November to January is the busiest period in oven cleaning by a wide margin, because Christmas cooking is when people look properly inside the door, so allow two to three weeks in December rather than a few days. The other triggers are a check-out inspection, where the oven causes more deposit deductions than any other item and wants doing a day or two before the appointment rather than the morning of it, and a house going on the market. Otherwise, annually.
Whoever turns up is directly employed by us, DBS-checked and reference-verified, which is not the same arrangement as most companies quoting against this. More on how we work on the about page, and the common pre-booking questions are on the FAQ page.

What goes wrong, and how to avoid it
The mistakes below account for most of the disappointment in this kind of work, ours included. Several of them will save you money whether you hire us or not.
Putting caustic on a catalytic liner
Catalytic panels are the rough, matte, slightly porous ones on the sides or back. They absorb grease and oxidise it at temperature, and a caustic cleaner or a scouring pad destroys that coating for good. Once the surface has gone glossy or patchy it does not come back, and the panel is a replacement part. If a liner is rough and matte, nothing goes on it.
Trusting the pyrolytic cycle to do the whole job
It heats the cavity to roughly 400C to 500C and reduces the soil to ash, which works well for the walls and floor. It does not clean the door glass, the seal, the fascia or the racks, and most manufacturers require the racks to come out first. On a badly neglected oven it also produces real smoke. It cleans what you cannot see and leaves what you can.
Scraping with metal
A knife, a razor held at an angle or a wire pad all scratch vitreous enamel, and the scratches then hold grease, discolour and eventually rust. It is a permanent trade of a fast result now for a worse oven later. The right answer is more dwell time and a plastic scraper.
Cleaning the oven and ignoring the extractor
The metal mesh filter above the hob is a grease reservoir, and a saturated one stops pulling air and starts dripping back onto the hob. It is a fifteen minute job in hot degreaser alongside an oven clean and is almost never done between them. Charcoal filters are not cleanable at all and are replaced roughly every six to twelve months in normal use.

Thanks for the professionalism in your Services. Nice job.
Highly recommend.
A very good cleaning services company. Paying attention to every detail of their work and have a very good human relationship. Highly recommended.
Are the products caustic, and what does fume free actually mean?
Most professional oven products are caustic, usually sodium or potassium hydroxide, because that is what turns baked-on fat into something water can carry away. Fume free is a trade description meaning low odour and non-flammable, not non-caustic, and it is worth knowing the difference. The controls are ventilation, gloves and thorough rinsing rather than a claim on a label. Rinsed properly, the oven is safe to use as soon as we leave.
Can you clean between the door glass?
On most ovens yes, and it is the thing customers actually notice, because grease runs down between the panes where a wipe of the inner face never reaches. Many doors have an inner pane held by clips or a retaining strip that comes out in a couple of minutes. Some models are bonded or need the whole door stripped, and on those we say so before starting rather than afterwards.
Is my oven taken away or cleaned in a dip tank?
The oven never leaves your kitchen. A dip tank is a heated tank of solution, usually in the van, and it takes the removable parts: racks, runners, trays, grill pan, burner caps and pan supports. The cavity itself is always cleaned on site by hand, whoever you book. Anyone offering to take the appliance away is describing a repair collection, not a clean.
Can you clean a pyrolytic or catalytic oven?
Yes, with the liners left alone. Run the pyrolytic cycle first if you have one, then we do everything it does not touch, which is more than people expect: the door and the space between the glass, the seal, the fascia, the racks that had to come out for the cycle anyway, and the fan housing. The cycle cleans the part nobody looks at and leaves the part everybody judges.
How often does an oven need doing?
About once a year for a household that roasts most weeks, twice if you cook with a lot of fat or the grill gets heavy use. Beyond roughly two years the carbon layer thickens to the point where it needs two applications, so the job costs more rather than less for having been left. Before a check-out inspection is the other common trigger.
