Oven Cleaning for Lenton Abbey homes
Cookers stand in the recess the original range left, a slot barely wider than the appliance, so the sides only get cleaned if it comes forward. The houses that extended have a built in double in a tall housing instead.
Kitchens on this estate are the original small back room, sometimes with an extension pushed out behind it, and where the cooker stands decides how the job runs. Most houses keep a freestanding cooker in the recess the original range left, a slot barely wider than the appliance with a wall tight to each side. The sides, the plinth and the floor under it are unreachable until it is drawn forward, and it stays on its bayonet fitting while that happens. The houses that extended have a built in single or double in a tall housing with a hob set into the worktop, and a handful run a range in the knocked through space. One estate, three different strip downs.
Lenton Abbey sits in NG9, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly a single interwar municipal estate of small semis and short terraces on a regular layout, brick with rendered upper storeys, some bought and extended over the years and some still let, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Lenton Abbey oven cleaning jobs
An oven clean needs somewhere to stand racks, runners, trays and a pane of door glass while they soak, and these kitchens have almost no worktop to give up. The original larder looks like the answer and is not: that shelf is porous, unsealed and takes caustic and grease into itself rather than letting either sit on top of it. We bring a folding bench and lay protection on the floor instead. The find in a let here is the grill compartment of a freestanding cooker, which has served as a second oven all year and never once as a grill, so the carbon is on the roof of it where nobody looks.
How a Lenton Abbey oven cleaning job actually runs
Two things decide how an oven clean runs on this estate and neither of them is the appliance. The first is that the heated tank stays in the van, so racks, runners, trays and the grill pan travel out of the front door and down the path to it, then back again once they have soaked. That is a short carry on these frontages, but it wants the van within sight of the door rather than round the corner, which in term time means agreeing a weekday and a morning in advance. The second is that the kitchen is the back room and the back door is in it, so for the hours the floor is sheeted and the appliance is in pieces, the garden, the bins and the outside store are effectively shut off. Worth knowing if a dog goes out that way. Beyond that the requirements are small: one working socket that is not behind a machine, and a stretch of floor kept clear. Where an extension kitchen has a newer built in oven, tell us at booking whether it is pyrolytic or lined, because that changes what can be used inside it.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Bought houses have hardstanding across the front garden; the rest have none, so the kerb fills in term time and the street narrows to one lane. Back gardens are reached through the house or by a path down the side, where the bins stand.
We run Lenton Abbey on the same round as Beeston, Dunkirk and Wollaton Park.
What we check on every Lenton Abbey job
The wall on each side of the cooker is where the recess shows its age. Tiling was taken up to the width of the appliance and no further, so the plaster on both flanks has been catching spat fat for years and being wiped with a cloth that was already greasy, which leaves a soft brown film polished into the paint rather than sitting on it. Emulsion of that age will not take a caustic product, so it gets detergent, patience and an honest word when it has reached the point of wanting paint instead. Above it, in a good number of these kitchens, sits a recirculating hood with no duct through the wall at all. The metal mesh comes out and degreases properly. The charcoal cartridge behind it does not, because that is a replacement item, and in the ones we open it has usually never been changed, which is why a kitchen still smells of last night long after the extractor was switched on.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The oven itself: Door seal cleaned around rather than soaked, because a saturated seal perishes
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Charcoal filters checked and reported, since those are replaced rather than cleaned
- The oven itself: Cavity roof, floor, sides and back, treated and left to dwell rather than scoured
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Ceramic and induction: burnt sugar and boil-over taken off with a blade held flat, then polished
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Lenton Abbey
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Lenton Abbey. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The cooker is wedged in a gap with a wall each side. Can it come out?
Usually, and it is worth it, because that gap either side is where twenty years of boil overs have gone. It comes forward far enough to reach the sides and the floor, then goes back on the same feet. What does not happen is disconnection. A gas cooker stays on its bayonet fitting and a hardwired appliance stays wired, both of which are for a registered engineer rather than a cleaner.
Ours is a built in double in the extension. Is that a different job?
Two cavities rather than one, and the top has usually been used as a grill, so its roof carries most of the carbon in the house. Both doors come apart where the panes are held by clips. The real difference is height: a wet rack has to come down from eye level and go somewhere, so we need a stretch of floor kept clear in front of the housing rather than the worktop you expected to lose.
Is the extractor part of the oven clean?
It is a separate item on the same visit rather than something folded in, and here it is usually worth adding, because a hood in a small back kitchen sits directly in the plume from a cooker standing in a recess. The canopy is done inside and out, the metal mesh filter is degreased in solution rather than rinsed, and a charcoal filter is reported rather than cleaned, since that one is replaced. We will also say plainly if a hood is recirculating and achieving very little.
There are liners down the sides of the oven. Can those be cleaned?
Not with anything caustic and not with a pad. Catalytic liners work by absorbing grease and burning it off at temperature, so scouring or chemical takes the coating off for good and the panel stops doing its job. They stay in and the cavity is worked around them. The same rule applies to pyrolytic enamel in the newer built in ovens. If liners have stopped coping, that is a replacement panel from the manufacturer rather than a cleaning problem.
Do you cover the whole of Lenton Abbey?
Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Lenton Abbey?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Lenton Abbey?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Bought houses have hardstanding across the front garden; the rest have none, so the kerb fills in term time and the street narrows to one lane, and we group Lenton Abbey with Beeston, Dunkirk and Wollaton Park on the rota.
