Oven Cleaning for Bakersfield homes

Same kitchen plan every few doors: a freestanding sixty centimetre cooker with the grill in its own box above, wedged between a base unit and the pantry wall, and no spare worktop at all. The trays have to go somewhere before anything comes apart.

Two kitchens recur here and the oven job is different in each. In the council built houses the cooker is freestanding, sixty centimetres wide, with a separate grill compartment over the main cavity, and it stands in the gap between a base unit and the wall of the walk in pantry. Nothing about that is difficult except surface, because there is about a metre of worktop, a drainer and no table. Where the pantry has gone and the kitchen been opened out, you are usually looking at a built under double in a run of units or an eye level pair in a tall housing, and then the upper cavity sits at chin height and the racks come out above the shoulder. Say which of those two kitchens you have and the visit is planned around it.

Bakersfield sits in NG3, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly 1930s semis and blocks of four in long curving roads off Oakdale Road, council built with deep gardens, alongside private bay fronted semis of the same decade and pockets of later infill, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Bakersfield oven cleaning jobs

Pulling a freestanding cooker forward is where damage happens in these houses. The kitchen floor is boards with sheet vinyl laid over them rather than a slab, the vinyl has gone brittle along the edges, and a cooker with no castors stands on four thin feet that score straight through it. Hardboard goes down first and the appliance comes forward onto that. The gap it leaves is the second thing. Against a pantry wall the plaster often stops short behind the cooker and the brick below it is bare, and what has run down that brick over the years lifts with a cloth and hot solution rather than needing anything aggressive on it.

How a Bakersfield oven cleaning job actually runs

An oven booking is a short visit rather than a day, so it gets slotted against whatever else is happening on the same street that morning, which is often a fortnightly round two or three doors along. Access is the easy half of it. Most plots have somewhere to leave a van and the kitchen sits at the back with a door into the garden, and that door matters more than it sounds. Trays, runners, racks and the grill pan go into heated solution outside the step rather than filling the only sink in the house, and the rinse water goes down the outside gully instead of through the kitchen waste. On the two middle houses of a block of four the route to the back is the shared passage between the pair, so nothing dripping ever comes through the front room. December is the pinch point, because the whole city looks inside the oven door in the same fortnight, and slots there go two or three weeks ahead. If your cooker is gas on a bayonet fitting we clean around it rather than pulling it off the connection, which is a job for somebody on the gas register.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Parking is easy: wide roads, verges and drives on many plots. The names are the catch. Road after road here ends in dale, and several differ by a syllable, so we want the full road name and the house number, not just the postcode.

We run Bakersfield on the same round as Carlton, Sneinton and Colwick.

What we check on every Bakersfield job

The grill box above the cavity is the part nobody ever cleans, and on a freestanding cooker of this type it is a compartment in its own right, with its own door, its own pan and a roof sitting directly under the hotplate. Fat spits upward onto that roof, cools there and builds into a hard brown crust that has to be softened and taken off in layers with a plastic scraper. It comes out with everything else. The second thing is airborne, and it is common in these kitchens. A good number of them still have no extractor over the cooker at all, only the ventilator brick that once served the pantry, so grease a hood would have caught goes up instead and lands on the ceiling and along the top edge of the wall cupboards, where it sets into a tacky film that holds dust. That is not part of an oven clean, and we point it out rather than leaving you to find it.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Microwave interior, roof plate, turntable and door seal
  • The oven itself: Cavity roof, floor, sides and back, treated and left to dwell rather than scoured
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Gas hobs: burner caps, crowns, pan supports and the tray underneath, all soaked separately
  • How the job is left: Existing damage photographed and pointed out before we start, not after

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Bakersfield property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What oven cleaning costs in Bakersfield

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Bakersfield. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Questions

Oven Cleaningin Bakersfield

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

There is no worktop free in our kitchen. Where do the trays go?

Outside, most of the time. The back door out of the kitchen is the useful feature of this house type, so the heated tray sits on the step or on the path rather than taking up the only run of worktop you have. In cold weather it comes just inside the door instead, onto a protective sheet on the floor. Either way the sink stays yours and nothing gets stacked on the drainer.

The grill is in a separate box above the oven. Is that done as well?

Yes, it is one appliance and it is cleaned as one. It does add time rather than coming free, because the box has its own door, its own pan and a roof that has been spat at from underneath for years, and that roof is regularly the worst surface in the whole cooker. Tell us the grill box is there when you book so the slot is given the right length.

Should we run the self cleaning cycle before you come?

If you have one, yes, and very few cookers of the type common here do. A pyrolytic cycle burns out the cavity and leaves everything else untouched: the door, the space between the panes, the seal, the fascia and the racks that had to come out before it ran. Check what your side liners are before assuming anything at all. If they are rough and matte rather than smooth and shiny they are catalytic, and nothing goes on them.

Can the hob and the microwave be done at the same time?

Yes, and it is the right way round, because the soaking the oven parts need is dead time that a hob and a microwave can be cleaned inside. Say what you have when you book. A gas hob has caps, crowns and pan supports that all go into solution, while ceramic is a blade held flat and then polished. The microwave gets forgotten most often and it is the quickest item in the room.

Do you cover the whole of Bakersfield?

Yes, all of NG3 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Bakersfield?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Bakersfield?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Parking is easy: wide roads, verges and drives on many plots, and we group Bakersfield with Carlton, Sneinton and Colwick on the rota.
