Oven Cleaning for Mapperley Park homes
The kitchen is two rooms thrown together at the back of the house, and the cooker in it is wide: a ninety centimetre range, or a heat storage cooker that has to be off and cold for a day before anybody can touch it.
Two very different kitchens sit behind the same kind of front door. In a villa still held as one dwelling the cooking happens in a large room at the back made by taking out the wall between the old kitchen and the scullery, and the appliance is a wide freestanding range, occasionally a heat storage cooker that has not been switched off since the day it was installed. In a villa divided into flats it is a compact single oven in a fitted run, put into a room that used to be a bedroom, and the visit is short. The two want opposite bookings. A range with full width trays needs a long slot and somewhere to put wet metal down, and a heat storage cooker needs the household to accept a cold kitchen first.
Mapperley Park sits in NG3, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly large late-Victorian and Edwardian villas on wide plots, red brick with stone dressings and deep bays, a good number now divided into flats, and almost nothing built small, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Mapperley Park oven cleaning jobs
The floor under the cooker decides how carefully the job gets set up. These kitchens frequently still have their original quarry tile or a small geometric tile, unsealed and porous, and a caustic drip off a rack etches it within minutes and leaves a pale patch that will not clean back. The fitted run either side is often painted timber rather than laminate, and the same drip lifts paint along the bottom edge of the plinth. So sheeting goes down before the door is opened rather than after something has run, and every part that comes out goes onto a tray instead of onto a cloth on the tiles.
How a Mapperley Park oven cleaning job actually runs
Everything for this job arrives on foot, so the route into the house matters more than it would at a modern property. The vehicle carries a heated tank, solution and trays, and the kitchen is at the back, up from the gate, across gravel and usually in through a side or rear door rather than the front one. We ask which door you want used and whether the drive will be clear, because a tank is not carried round a parked car twice. In a flat the route is a communal hall and a staircase instead, so we bring what we need in one trip and keep the hall clear while the work runs. Timing then follows the appliance rather than the diary. A heat storage cooker has to go off the day before, which needs somebody in the house who will accept a cold kitchen, and those bookings belong in spring or early autumn. A range or a built under double can be done in any week, provided there is hot water and a window that opens, because ventilation is what controls the fumes rather than any wording on the drum.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Most houses have a drive, often gravel and often shared between flats, so we ask which space is yours rather than guessing. The front door is usually a long way up from the gate, and that carry decides what equipment comes off the van.
We run Mapperley Park on the same round as Mapperley, Sherwood and St Ann's.
What we check on every Mapperley Park job
Extraction is the item most often left out of the conversation, and the elevation is the reason. Putting a new duct terminal through the front or the side of one of these houses is not a casual decision here, so what tends to get fitted instead is a hood that recirculates through a charcoal cartridge, or a duct taken up a capped flue behind the breast. Both hide the problem rather than solving it. A charcoal cartridge cannot be washed and is a replacement part, and in most of these kitchens nobody has changed one since the units went in, so the hood is returning warm grease laden air to the room. The metal mesh in front of it then saturates, stops pulling properly and starts dripping onto the hob beneath. We degrease the mesh and the canopy, and we tell you a cartridge is spent rather than rinsing it and putting it back.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Charcoal filters checked and reported, since those are replaced rather than cleaned
- How the job is left: Floor and worktop protected before anything is opened or applied
- How the job is left: Freestanding cookers pulled out where safe, so the sides and the gap are done
- How the job is left: Everything reassembled in the right order, including the glass, and the door checked for closure
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Mapperley Park
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Mapperley Park. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
We have a heat storage cooker. How long is the kitchen out of use?
Longer than the cleaning takes. It has to be switched off and left to go properly cold before anything is applied, which is the best part of a day on most models, and it needs a similar stretch to come back up to temperature afterwards. In a house where that cooker is also warming the room, that means booking it for a mild week rather than the middle of winter. The enamel marks easily, so nothing abrasive goes anywhere near it.
There is nowhere to stand the racks and trays. Where do they go?
Into a heated tank out at the vehicle, which is where they belong anyway. A ninety centimetre range has trays no domestic sink will take, and the sink in one of these kitchens is often the original fireclay one, shallow, chipped along the front already and easily chipped again by a rack going in edge first. Nothing gets soaked in your sink or left standing on a worktop. The parts leave the room and come back clean and dry.
The hood does not seem to vent anywhere. Is it still worth cleaning?
More so than a ducted one, because everything it collects comes back into the room instead of going outside. The grease sits in a metal mesh filter, which goes into hot degreaser and comes out looking new, and behind that in a charcoal cartridge, which cannot be cleaned at any price and is replaced roughly every six to twelve months in normal use. Find the model number before we come and have a cartridge in the house, or the visit fixes half of it.
Can this be done with the family at home?
Yes, with the kitchen door shut, a window open and children and dogs kept out of that room for the afternoon. The kitchen is out of use while it runs, which matters less in one of these houses than in a smaller one, since there is another room to sit in and the kitchen is at the back away from everything. We rinse repeatedly until the water comes off clean, so there is no waiting period and no smell the first time you heat it.
Do you cover the whole of Mapperley Park?
Yes, all of NG3 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Mapperley Park?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Mapperley Park?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Most houses have a drive, often gravel and often shared between flats, so we ask which space is yours rather than guessing, and we group Mapperley Park with Mapperley, Sherwood and St Ann's on the rota.
