Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Mapperley Park homes
Two flights, two half landings and a landing longer than most bedrooms, all in one continuous run of carpet. That run collects what the whole house tracks in, and it is usually the job rather than the rooms.
The staircase is more often the job here than the rooms are. A three storey villa gives you a flight from the hall to the first landing, a second flight to the bedroom floor, a third up to the old staff floor, and the half landings between them, all in the same carpet. Every person, every dog and every delivery uses it. Beyond that, these houses often have large wool rugs laid over boards or parquet instead of fitted carpet throughout, and a rug behaves differently: it can be lifted, it has edges and fringes that fitted carpet does not have, and the floor underneath it has to be dry before it goes back down. So the quote gets built from runs and rugs rather than from a room count.
Mapperley Park sits in NG3, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly large late-Victorian and Edwardian villas on wide plots, red brick with stone dressings and deep bays, a good number now divided into flats, and almost nothing built small, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Mapperley Park carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
With rugs, the floor underneath matters as much as the rug itself. A wool rug lying on varnished boards or parquet holds moisture against the timber if it goes back down damp, and on parquet that is how blocks lift, because the bitumen beneath them softens and the joints open. We take rugs off the floor to clean them, dry them raised so air passes across both faces, and leave the boards clear until both are properly dry. Fringes are worked by hand, since they are cotton foundation rather than wool pile and they grey evenly along their length rather than in patches.
How a Mapperley Park carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
Machine work needs a route into the house and a route back out for the waste, and that is worth thinking about before the day. The hose has to run from the vehicle through the front door, so we need the van within reach of the elevation, which on a gravel drive behind a gate means the gate held open and the drive clear. Once inside, the hose lies across the hall and up the flights, so anybody at home moves around it for a couple of hours and dogs are better shut away. We also need a tap, somewhere legitimate to empty waste water, and a socket that is not shared with something else on the same circuit. Then drying. Tall rooms and original sash windows help, since a house like this moves air easily once two windows are open at different heights, but cold shut up rooms do not dry on their own in winter, so heating on low for the rest of the day is part of the job rather than an afterthought. We work the furthest room first and finish at the door.
Who books it here
Regular domestic help in houses nobody can keep on top of around a working week, usually a longer visit less often rather than a short weekly one. Deep cleans before Christmas and in early spring. Carpet and upholstery work runs high, because two flights of stairs and rooms of this size take the wear a whole terrace would spread out.
We run Mapperley Park on the same round as Mapperley, Sherwood and St Ann's.
What we check on every Mapperley Park job
Curtains at these windows hold more than the carpet under them and get looked at last. A tall sash gets a lined or interlined curtain that reaches the floor, and the bottom of that curtain sits in the path of everything walked past it, so the hem carries a band of grey that only shows when you fold it back against the rest of the fabric. Dust also settles along the top of the heading and in the pleats behind the pole. None of that goes in a washing machine: an interlined curtain shrinks unevenly because the layers move at different rates, and the lining puckers permanently. What works is a proper vacuum with an upholstery head along the heading, down the leading edge and through the hem, on a schedule, and specialist off site cleaning when the fabric genuinely needs it.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Upholstery: Embedded hair lifted with a rubber brush
- Upholstery: Cleaned panel by panel so no drying edge shows
- Upholstery: Low moisture, because the foam underneath holds water for days
- Also covered: Stairs and landings, priced separately because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Mapperley Park
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. Do the stairs cost more than the same area of flat floor?
Yes, and the reason is mechanical rather than commercial. A staircase is cleaned one tread at a time using a hand tool, and the nosing at the front of each step needs several passes because it carries the heaviest wear on the flight. In one of these houses there are three flights and two or three half landings stacked above each other, so the total run is considerably longer than a floor plan makes it look, and none of it can be covered quickly.
We have an antique sofa. Will you touch it?
Only after testing, and sometimes the answer is no. Older upholstery can have hessian and horsehair under the top cover, and if water gets past the cover into that it dries slowly, smells, and marks the fabric from underneath as it wicks back up. We test the cover for colourfastness somewhere hidden and work at low moisture. Where the fabric is silk, or a loose weave with no backing behind it, we will recommend a textile specialist instead.
How long before we can walk on it?
Walkable in a few hours in stocking feet, properly dry the next day, and longer in a cold room that has been shut. Wool holds moisture for longer than a synthetic pile, and a hall floor in one of these houses is wool more often than not. Keep shoes off until it is dry, do not put a rug back down on a damp carpet, and leave furniture legs on the protectors we put under them, because a wooden foot on damp wool marks it.
Can you do the curtains at the same time?
We can vacuum them thoroughly in place, top, leading edge and hem, and that is genuinely worth doing on the same visit while the furniture is already moved. What we will not do is wet clean an interlined curtain on the pole. Interlining shrinks at a different rate from the face fabric, so it comes back short and puckered along the seams. If they need more than a vacuum, they come down and go to a specialist who cleans them flat.
Do you cover the whole of Mapperley Park?
Yes, all of NG3 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Mapperley Park?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Mapperley Park?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Most houses have a drive, often gravel and often shared between flats, so we ask which space is yours rather than guessing, and we group Mapperley Park with Mapperley, Sherwood and St Ann's on the rota.
