Deep Cleaning for Mapperley Park homes
A full day at least, and the time goes on mouldings rather than floor area: panelled doors, deep skirtings, shutter boxes, tiled grates and the joinery of a house built when labour was cheap and detail was free.
The number of separate slow items is what makes this a day's work instead of a long morning. A four panel door carries eight mouldings on each face and two more on the edge, and there are twenty or more of them in the house. The skirting is deep enough to have three or four steps in its profile and it runs the length of every room and both landings. Bay windows have shutters folded into the reveals. Bedroom fireplaces are still in place. The bathroom is frequently a cast iron bath with its original enamel, which rules out anything abrasive before we start. None of that shows up in a room count, and pricing one of these houses from the bedroom number is how an estimate ends up at half of what the work needs.
Mapperley Park sits in NG3, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly large late-Victorian and Edwardian villas on wide plots, red brick with stone dressings and deep bays, a good number now divided into flats, and almost nothing built small, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Mapperley Park deep cleaning jobs
Shutter boxes are what we most often find have never been opened. The panels fold back into a pocket in the window reveal and are commonly painted shut along the leading edge, so the pocket behind them has been collecting dust since the last time anybody forced them. We free the edge with a blade held flat, fold the panels out, vacuum the pocket and the hinge knuckles with a crevice tool, then clean and dry the timber. Where they will not move without splitting the paint film we say so and leave them alone, because a cracked shutter panel becomes a joiner's job.
How a Mapperley Park deep cleaning job actually runs
A deep clean in one of these houses is a whole day for more than one person, and it needs setting up like a small job rather than a visit. We want one tap agreed for filling, somewhere to tip dirty water that is not the kitchen sink, and a note of which sockets on each floor actually work, because original rooms have few of them and flexes end up running out onto landings. Rooms go faster when surfaces are clear, so the week before is the time to move the ornaments off the mantel and empty the worktop, not the morning we arrive. Heating matters more than people expect: washed floors, tiled bathrooms and cleaned joinery all need to dry, and in a tall house with cold rooms that have been shut up, drying is what decides whether the job finishes on time. We ask for the heating on gently and a couple of windows openable. Booking around decorators is the other constraint, since a deep clean belongs after the last dusty trade, never before it.
Who books it here
Scale is the first problem and fragility is the second. These are houses with a full top floor built for live-in staff, so a visit that would cover a semi covers one floor here. Original joinery, tiled paths and cast iron grates then decide which products can go anywhere near them.
We run Mapperley Park on the same round as Mapperley, Sherwood and St Ann's.
What we check on every Mapperley Park job
High level work is where the hours actually go, and it is the part a standard tool cannot reach. Ceilings here run well above head height, so the top edge of the cornice, the flat top of the picture rail and the ring of the ceiling rose all carry a soft grey felt of dust that nobody has looked at in years. It has to be taken off dry, with a soft head on a pole or from steps, because a damp cloth on lath and plaster cornice turns dust into a streak that then has to be cleaned again and can lift distemper on an unpainted run. Stairwells are the difficult case: the drop from the landing means steps cannot be footed safely, so that height gets done from a pole with the pole angle set before we start, or it does not get done at all and we say so.
What the deep cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Bathrooms: Shower head soaked or bagged with descaler
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Washing machine drawer, door seal and filter
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Hob, including underneath the burner caps
- Everywhere else: Window interiors, sills, frames and the tracks they run in
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Mapperley Park property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What deep cleaning costs in Mapperley Park
A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Single oven deep clean | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker | £80 to £130 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
There is a cast iron bath with the original enamel. What is safe on it?
A neutral or mildly alkaline cleaner, a soft cloth and contact time, and nothing with grit in it. Enamel on a bath of that age has already lost some of its glaze to a century of use, so a cream cleaner with an abrasive in it cuts fine scratches that hold dirt and make the bath look worse each time it is cleaned. Scale around the waste comes off with a scale remover, kept well away from any chrome plating that has started to lift.
How often does a house this size genuinely need a deep clean?
Once a year is enough where a regular clean runs underneath it, and that is the pattern most of these houses settle into. With no regular visit, twice a year is more realistic, because mouldings, door tops and shutter reveals collect at their own pace whether the house is busy or not. Early spring works better than autumn for booking one, since windows and doors can be left open for drying without the house losing all its heat.
Do we need to clear the rooms before you come?
Clear surfaces, yes. Furniture, no. Ornaments on a mantel, papers on a desk and bottles round a bath all get moved and put back, which eats time without improving anything, so the more of that you have already boxed the more of the day goes on actual cleaning. Heavy items we move ourselves and put back where they were. Anything valuable or fragile is better shifted by you in advance, so nobody is carrying it who does not know what it is.
Can you reach the cornice above the stairwell?
Sometimes, and it depends on what is under it. Where the landing gives a safe standing position the run above the stairs can be done from a pole. Where the only place to stand is a stair tread with a drop beside it, steps cannot be footed safely and we will not improvise a platform across the flight. In that case we do everything reachable properly and tell you plainly which section needs a tower and an access company rather than pretending it was included.
Do you cover the whole of Mapperley Park?
Yes, all of NG3 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does deep cleaning cost in Mapperley Park?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start deep cleaning in Mapperley Park?
Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Most houses have a drive, often gravel and often shared between flats, so we ask which space is yours rather than guessing, and we group Mapperley Park with Mapperley, Sherwood and St Ann's on the rota.
