Deep Cleaning for Porchester homes
The kitchen is where the hours go, because in this stock it has usually swallowed the old coal store and outside lavatory. That leaves a step in the floor, a blocked doorway and a cold outside wall behind the units.
Nearly every kitchen in this stock has been pushed backwards into what were once the coal store and the outside lavatory, and the joins are still there under the finish. There is a change of floor level at the old back wall, usually covered with a strip of trim rather than levelled out. There is a blocked doorway you can find by tapping the plaster. The units at the far end stand against a solid external wall that was never meant to be indoors, so it sits colder than everything around it and grows mould in the corner behind the run. A deep clean here is mostly about reaching those places rather than scrubbing the visible surfaces, which are generally fine, and it is why the kitchen absorbs more of the day than the bathrooms do.
Porchester sits in NG3, under Nottingham City Council and Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly interwar and postwar bay-fronted semis running the length of the ridge road, most with a garden front and back, and plots that step up or down from the pavement, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Porchester deep cleaning jobs
The old lavatory itself usually survives as a cupboard off the kitchen or a downstairs cloakroom, and it is the room nobody has cleaned properly since it changed use. The original soil pipe is still in the corner, boxed in behind a panel that lifts off, and the void behind it is open to outside air through the redundant vent. Cobweb, brick dust and dead flies gather in there and drift out whenever the door swings. The floor is often the original quarry tile with vinyl laid straight over the top, and where the vinyl has lifted at an edge, the gap holds years of mop water that had nowhere else to go.
How a Porchester deep cleaning job actually runs
A deep clean here runs on the assumption that the house has one bathroom, because almost all of them do, and it sits at the front over the hall or the stairs. That single room decides the shape of the day. It has to come out of use for a stretch while sealant is cut back, the tiling is treated and the floor is done, and nobody can work round a family getting ready for school and work. So it goes first thing and is finished well before everyone is home, rather than being left until the end of the day when the house fills up again. Hot water is the other constraint. Plenty of these houses still heat a cylinder rather than running a combination boiler, and a deep clean gets through more hot water than a household does in a day, so we ask for it to be on before we arrive. Ventilation matters just as much: windows open, extractor running, doors to the landing shut, or everything lifted off the tiling settles in the bedrooms.
Who books it here
Bay-fronted semis in pairs, each with a garden at the front and a longer one behind. Two gardens mean soil entering the house at both ends, and because the plots sit slightly above or below the road, the ground between the back door and the lawn is usually the wettest part of it.
We run Porchester on the same round as Mapperley, Carlton and Thorneywood.
What we check on every Porchester job
The water in this part of the city is hard, and where that shows is not the kettle but the shower screen and the sealant behind it. Scale builds a rough film across the glass that holds soap, then mould grows in the film rather than on the glass, so a first pass makes it look worse before it looks better because the growth has roots below the deposit. It needs an acidic treatment and dwell time, and then the glass has to be dried rather than left to air, because a rinsed screen left wet starts the same cycle again by the weekend. The bath panel is the second thing. On a fitted panel the screws have been painted over or the edge has been sealed with silicone, and behind it is bare floorboard, dust and whatever has gone over the side of the bath for years. If it opens, we open it. If it does not, we say so rather than let you assume it was done.
What the deep cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Inside, on top of and underneath all cupboards
- Bathrooms: Toilet including hinges, base and behind the pan
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Oven interior, racks, side runners, door glass and grill pan
- Bathrooms: Limescale removed from taps, shower head, screen, tiles and grout
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Porchester property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What deep cleaning costs in Porchester
A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Single oven deep clean | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker | £80 to £130 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The corner of the kitchen behind the units keeps going mouldy. Can a clean fix it?
Not permanently, no. That end of the kitchen was built against what used to be an outside wall, solid brick with no cavity, and a wall like that stays well below the temperature of the room it now sits in. Steam off the hob finds it and settles. We can take the growth off, but it will be back within a season unless the extractor vents outdoors, the units stand off the wall and the room is ventilated while you cook.
What takes longest in a deep clean here?
The kitchen, by a wide margin, and not the worktops, which get wiped daily anyway. It is the parts a maintenance visit never reaches: the tops of the wall units and the gap above them, the plinths, the extractor filter, the glass in the oven door, and the run of floor at the old back wall where the level changes and the trim catches everything swept toward it. Bathrooms go quicker here than people expect, because they are small and there is usually only one.
How long will the bathroom be out of use?
Most of a morning, and the wet parts want longer than the work itself. Descaling needs dwell time to do anything, and if old silicone is cut out and renewed it should not be splashed or stood in until it has cured, which is hours rather than minutes. We say at the start which part of the morning it will be unusable so it can be planned round, and the bathroom goes early rather than last, because a room finished at the end gets used straight away.
The grout has gone black. Will a deep clean bring it back?
Grout usually yes, silicone usually no, and it is worth knowing which you are looking at. Cement grout between tiles holds staining on the surface and lifts with a gel left to work and then agitated. The soft white sealant in the internal corners and along the top of the bath is silicone, and once mould has grown into it the black is under the surface. Cleaning takes the top layer off and it returns quickly. That one is a cut out and replace job.
Do you cover the whole of Porchester?
Yes, all of NG3 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council and Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does deep cleaning cost in Porchester?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start deep cleaning in Porchester?
Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Most pairs of semis have a side gate and a passage to the back garden, so equipment goes round rather than through the house, and we group Porchester with Mapperley, Carlton and Thorneywood on the rota.
