Exterior windows need cleaning every four to eight weeks in most Nottingham settings, more often near a main road, less often somewhere sheltered. Interior windows need doing two to four times a year, and that is the one people underestimate.

Condensation, cooking residue and dust build a film on the inside of the glass that reduces daylight noticeably, particularly through a Nottingham winter when there is not much daylight to lose.

We clean the frames, sills and the tracks the windows run in, not only the glass. Those are usually more visibly dirty than the pane and are almost always skipped.

We do a lot of this work in Hyson Green, where original sash windows on the terraces, where the tracks and the drainage holes at the bottom of the frame matter more than the glass. See window cleaning in Hyson Green, across The Park Estate or Arnold and NG5.

What is included

Exterior

  • Water-fed pole system using purified water, reaching up to four storeys
  • Glass, frames and sills cleaned together
  • No ladders, so no access needed through the house in most cases
  • Drainage holes at the bottom of the frame cleared, which otherwise block and let water pool inside

Interior

  • Frame, sill and track dusted and vacuumed first, so you are not making mud
  • Glass washed, squeegeed in a single continuous pass and buffed dry
  • Edges detailed with a dry microfibre
  • Internal glazed doors, mirrors and glass partitions

Also

  • Conservatory roofs and glazing
  • Hard water spotting treated as limescale rather than scrubbed
  • Green algae on north-facing frames
  • Commercial frontages on a weekly or fortnightly rota

What is not included

  • Anything requiring a ladder on soft or uneven ground, which is where serious falls happen
  • Glass already etched by prolonged hard water contact, which is permanent
  • Condensation between double glazed panes, which means the unit seal has failed and needs replacing

If we leave the outside glass visibly wet, that is the system working rather than a job half done. Purified water has had its dissolved minerals removed, so it dries without spotting and is not dried by hand. It is the single most common misunderstanding customers have about the modern trade.

Prices assume a regular rota. A one-off clean of neglected glass takes considerably longer, so the first visit is usually quoted higher than the ones after it.

What window cleaning costs in Nottingham

Exterior glass on a rota. Interiors are charged separately and need access. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

PropertyTypical per visit
Terraced house£12 to £20
Semi-detached£15 to £28
Detached£25 to £45
Interiors, added to a visitRoughly half again
Commercial frontageQuoted on frequency

The first clean of glass that has been left costs more than the ones after it, which is why a rota works out cheaper than an annual rescue.

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

How we clean glass

Frames, sills and tracks first

Otherwise you make mud. The track gets a vacuum crevice tool and a brush before anything wet, and the drainage holes at the bottom of the frame get cleared, because blocked ones pool water inside the frame.

Purified water on the outside

Water-fed poles reach four storeys with the minerals stripped out, so it dries without spotting and is not dried by hand. If we leave the outside glass wet, that is the system working rather than a job half done.

No ladders on uneven ground

Falls from height are one of the most common causes of serious injury in the UK, and a ladder on soft ground with someone reaching sideways is exactly the scenario that causes them. This is the real argument for paying someone, more than the finish is.

Inside, minimal product and a single squeegee pass

Streaks come from residue, not technique. Warm water with a few drops of detergent, a continuous pass wiping the blade each stroke, edges detailed dry, then buffed. Never in direct sun, which dries the solution before it can be removed.

Scale is treated, not scrubbed

White marks that will not wipe off are mineral deposits and need an acidic descaler with dwell time. Scrubbing them puts micro-scratches in the glass that hold future scale, making the problem permanently worse.

When to book it

Exteriors on a six to eight week rota, four weekly near a main road. Interiors in late winter and early spring, when daylight is scarce and any film on the glass costs you noticeably more of it. Overcast still days are ideal; never in direct sun or freezing conditions.

Whoever turns up is directly employed by us, DBS-checked and reference-verified, which is not the same arrangement as most companies quoting against this. More on how we work on the about page, and the common pre-booking questions are on the FAQ page.

What goes wrong, and how to avoid it

The mistakes below account for most of the disappointment in this kind of work, ours included. Several of them will save you money whether you hire us or not.

Cleaning in direct sunlight

The solution dries before it can be removed and leaves exactly the streaks you were trying to avoid. Overcast and still is ideal.

Washing microfibre with fabric softener

It coats the fibres and makes them smear permanently. A cloth that has met softener will never clean glass properly again.

Scrubbing hard water spots

Those white marks are mineral deposits, not dirt. They need an acidic descaler and dwell time. Scrubbing puts micro-scratches in the glass that hold future scale, which makes the problem permanently worse.

Skipping the frames and tracks

Usually more visibly dirty than the glass, and the drainage holes at the bottom of the frame block with debris and pool water inside the unit until it finds its way in.

Going up a ladder

Falls from height remain one of the most common causes of serious injury in the UK. A ladder on soft or uneven ground with someone reaching sideways is the exact scenario that causes them, and no window is worth it.

Questions

Window CleaningQuestions

Anything not covered here, ring us on 07438 843980.

Why do you leave the windows wet?

Because purified water dries spot-free. Drying it by hand would reintroduce exactly the marks the system exists to avoid.

Do you do the insides too?

Yes, charged separately, and it needs someone to let us in. Late winter and early spring is the highest-value moment for interior glass, because daylight is scarce and any film on the glass costs you noticeably more of it.

What about the white marks that will not wipe off?

Those are mineral deposits rather than dirt, so they need an acidic descaler and dwell time rather than more scrubbing. Prolonged deposits eventually etch the glass permanently, which is why a rota beats an annual rescue.

Can you reach upstairs windows?

Yes, up to four storeys with a water-fed pole. We do not work from ladders on uneven ground.

Do you clean conservatory roofs?

Yes. It is specialist work because of the fall risk and the fragility of many roof panels, so it is quoted after seeing it.
