Window Cleaning for Attenborough homes
Glass this close to standing water grows algae in the gaskets and collects lime from geese and swans, both of which return faster than dirt does. The rota here is shorter than the sheltered streets a mile north would need.
This is the round where the location does most of the work. Standing water on the doorstep means humidity, and humidity means algae, which grows first in the rubber gaskets and the corners of the frames rather than on the pane, so glass that has just been washed still reads as green from the garden. Waterfowl are the second half of it. Lime from geese, swans and gulls lands on sills, dormer cheeks, conservatory roofs and anything under a flight line, and it is acidic enough to dull anodised aluminium and eat into paintwork if it sits through a hot spell. Neither of those is dirt in the ordinary sense and neither responds to going round less often.
Attenborough sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly older cottages and larger period houses in the conservation area around the church, interwar and postwar semis along Attenborough Lane and Barratt Lane, and a little later infill toward the water, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Attenborough window cleaning jobs
Frames and gaskets get brushed on every visit here, not only the glass, because the growth lives in the seal and will re-colonise a clean pane within weeks if it is left. The little drainage slots at the foot of a modern unit block with algae and seed fluff rather than with grit, and a blocked slot holds water in the frame all winter. Those get cleared. In early summer the willows shed and the fluff sticks to anything damp, so it comes off the glass wet rather than being brushed dry, which only smears it. On the water side the same house needs doing more often than the road side, and it is worth pricing it that way.
How an Attenborough window cleaning job actually runs
How the round works here is set by ground conditions and by access to the back. The soil sits soft for much of the year, so a ladder foot sinks into a border or a lawn and neither the ladder nor the lawn benefits; most of the work goes up on a pole fed by purified water from the van, which keeps weight off the ground and reaches a dormer without anybody standing on soft going. Purified water is also why the glass is left wet and dries clear rather than being buffed. What we need from you is a way to the back. Several houses in the village have no side passage at all, so the only route is through the property, and that has to be arranged rather than discovered. Where a gate is bolted from the inside, or a dog is out in the garden, tell us at booking and we will set the visit accordingly. We work a repeating round and let you know the week beforehand, so nobody has to be home.
Who books it here
The local reference points are the nature reserve and its visitor centre, St Mary's church and the railway station, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.
We run Attenborough on the same round as Chilwell, Beeston and Toton.
What we check on every Attenborough job
On timber windows the bottom rail is the part to watch, and it is the part a pole and brush will find first. Water sits along that rail and in the drip groove beneath it, paint lifts there before anywhere else, and the putty behind the glass dries, shrinks and lets go at the same corner. Brush a frame in that condition with any force and loose putty and flakes of paint come away with the dirt, which is not cleaning, it is damage. So those get worked lightly, and we tell you what we found rather than quietly sweeping it off the sill. Leaded panes are the other one worth naming. The lead itself oxidises to a dull grey, and a cleaner strong enough to brighten it will bloom the cement holding the panes, so it gets washed and left as it is.
What the window cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Exterior: Water-fed pole system using purified water, reaching up to four storeys
- Interior: Glass washed, squeegeed in a single continuous pass and buffed dry
- Also: Green algae on north-facing frames
- Exterior: Drainage holes at the bottom of the frame cleared, which otherwise block and let water pool inside
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full window cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What window cleaning costs in Attenborough
Exterior glass on a rota. Interiors are charged separately and need access. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£15 to £28
Typical per visit in Attenborough. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per visit |
|---|---|
| Terraced house | £12 to £20 |
| Semi-detached | £15 to £28 |
| Detached | £25 to £45 |
| Interiors, added to a visit | Roughly half again |
| Commercial frontage | Quoted on frequency |
The first clean of glass that has been left costs more than the ones after it, which is why a rota works out cheaper than an annual rescue.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Conservatory roof | Quoted after seeing it |
| First clean of neglected glass | Higher than the rota price |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
How often does glass need doing this close to the water?
Shorter than the usual interval, and the two elevations often want different ones. The side facing open water picks up algae, insect deposit and bird lime and generally needs a four to six week rhythm through the growing season. The sheltered road side will hold for longer. We would rather set two intervals on the same property than average them into one that is wrong for both, and in the depths of winter the whole thing can usually stretch.
Bird mess has been on the conservatory roof all summer. Will it come off?
The deposit will. Whether the panel looks right afterwards depends on what it is made of and how long it has been there, because droppings are acidic and polycarbonate and painted aluminium both mark under them. It is softened and lifted rather than scrubbed, since a pad on a plastic panel leaves a permanent haze. Conservatory roofs are quoted after somebody has looked at it, mostly because of the fall risk rather than the cleaning.
Do we need to be home, and how do you reach the back?
You do not need to be in if we can get to the rear on our own. Leave the side gate unbolted on the day if it is normally locked, or agree a spot to leave a key. Where there is no side access at all we need somebody in to let us through the house, so that visit gets booked rather than slotted into the round. Move anything fragile back from under the windows, and keep a dog indoors while we are working.
Do you clean through the winter, and what if it rains afterwards?
We work all year and stop only for hard frost, when the water freezes on the glass, and for wind strong enough to make pole work unsafe. Rain after a clean is not a problem: rainwater is soft and the glass has been rinsed with purified water, so it dries without spotting. What marks glass is dirty run off carrying whatever is on the frames and the roof above it, which is one more reason the frames get done as well as the panes.
Do you cover the whole of Attenborough?
Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does window cleaning cost in Attenborough?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of windows, how many storeys, and whether interiors are included with the exterior rota. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start window cleaning in Attenborough?
Within a fortnight to join the rota, and the first clean of neglected glass takes longer than the ones after it. Lanes here are narrow and the reserve car park fills at weekends, so visits are booked for the morning, and we group Attenborough with Chilwell, Beeston and Toton on the rota.
