Window Cleaning for Chilwell homes

Newer estates with large modern units and shower enclosures inside. The exterior runs on a normal rota; the enclosure glass is the thing that actually bothers people.

The glass count here is higher than the house sizes suggest, because so many Chilwell properties have had a rear extension with bifold or sliding doors put in. That is a lot of large panes at ground level, where they collect splashback off the patio, dog noses and hand marks at child height. In summer the reserve brings insects, and lakeside midges leave a speckle on the sunny elevation that dries hard and has to be wetted rather than wiped. Front elevations on the closes off Toton Lane are sheltered compared with a main road property, so a six to eight week rota generally holds.

Chilwell sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly interwar and postwar semis, with newer estates around Toton Lane and the tram park and ride, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Chilwell window cleaning jobs

Bifold and patio door bottom tracks are the part that actually causes problems. They collect grit off the garden and the rollers grind it into the track until the door gets heavy and starts scoring the run. That track gets a vacuum crevice tool and a brush before any water goes near it, and the drainage slots along the outer edge get cleared, because a blocked slot pools water in the track and pushes it back over the threshold in heavy rain. It takes a few minutes and it is skipped almost universally.

How a Chilwell window cleaning job actually runs

An exterior round here is straightforward at the front and awkward at the back. The closes are sheltered so front elevations hold up well, but rear access on the newer plots runs down a narrow gap between two houses to a gate that is bolted from the inside or on a code. With nobody home we cannot reach the back at all, so the gate arrangement is settled when the rota is set rather than discovered on the day. Single storey rear extensions change the reach as well, because first floor glass above one has to be worked from a pole standing back on the lawn instead of close in, and a flat roof is not something anybody should be standing on. The three storey townhouses on some of the newer developments need the full pole length and a clear standing position, so wheelie bins and garden furniture are better moved before we arrive. Interiors are a separate visit two or three times a year, booked when somebody is home, and that is the visit where the inside glass gets proper attention.

Who books it here

The local reference points are Attenborough Nature Reserve, Toton Lane tram stop and Chilwell Retail Park, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

We run Chilwell on the same round as Beeston, Stapleford and Clifton.

What we check on every Chilwell job

Outside it is purified water through a pole brush, with frames and rubber gaskets brushed as well as the pane, so the run off is not carrying dirt back down glass that has just been cleaned. Inside, the order is dust and vacuum the frame, sill and track first, then wash, then squeegee in one pass and detail the edges dry. The item that matters most in these houses is the glass in the shower enclosure, and it has to be treated as limescale rather than as dirt. An acidic descaler and a soft white pad lift the deposit. A scouring pad, a blade or a cream cleaner will lift the factory water repellent coating along with it, and once that coating is gone the glass scales faster every week afterwards. We check whether an enclosure is coated before touching it, and we say plainly when a pane is past cleaning.

What the window cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Exterior: Glass, frames and sills cleaned together
  • Exterior: Water-fed pole system using purified water, reaching up to four storeys
  • Also: Commercial frontages on a weekly or fortnightly rota
  • Also: Green algae on north-facing frames

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full window cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Chilwell property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 8.

What window cleaning costs in Chilwell

Exterior glass on a rota. Interiors are charged separately and need access. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

PropertyTypical per visit
Terraced house£12 to £20
Semi-detached£15 to £28
Detached£25 to £45
Interiors, added to a visitRoughly half again
Commercial frontageQuoted on frequency

The first clean of glass that has been left costs more than the ones after it, which is why a rota works out cheaper than an annual rescue.

First clean of neglected glassHigher than the rota price

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Do you clean bifold doors as part of a window clean?

Yes, as glazed units with their frames and tracks, though a full wall of bifolds is priced as what it is rather than counted as one window. Tell us when you book so the time is allowed. Both faces need doing for the doors to look right, so we want garden access and someone at home for the inside pass.

How often does a house near the reserve need doing?

Six to eight weeks suits most of Chilwell, with a shorter interval through late spring and summer if you are on the reserve side and picking up insect residue. Deposits left through a hot spell bake onto the glass and take considerably longer to shift, so a rota works out cheaper across a year than two rescue visits.

The side gate is bolted. Can you do the back if we are out?

Not unless you leave it open or fit a combination bolt. On the newer plots the only route to the rear glass is that gap between the houses, and climbing a locked gate is not something we do. The usual arrangement is a coded gate bolt with the number given to us, or the gate left off the latch on the morning of the rota. If we cannot get through, we do the front, tell you, and pick the back up next time.

Can you do the shower glass at the same time as the windows?

Yes, and on an interior visit it is worth adding. It is a different process from the rest of the glass, much closer to descaling than to washing, and it wants dwell time while we work elsewhere in the house. If the enclosure has been left a year or more, expect a marked improvement rather than a reset. Where deposit has sat long enough to etch the surface, nothing removes it and a replacement panel is the only fix.

Do you cover the whole of Chilwell?

Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does window cleaning cost in Chilwell?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of windows, how many storeys, and whether interiors are included with the exterior rota. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start window cleaning in Chilwell?

Within a fortnight to join the rota, and the first clean of neglected glass takes longer than the ones after it. Drives on most properties, and we group Chilwell with Beeston, Stapleford and Clifton on the rota.
