Window Cleaning for Keyworth homes

Village housing with drives and open aspects, on a normal exterior rota. The older cottages in the core have small panes that take longer than their area suggests.

Village glass gets dirty differently from town glass. There is no constant traffic film, so panes stay clear longer, but the low level splashing is worse. Unkerbed verges and field access mean rain throws a gritty brown spray onto the bottom third of ground floor windows and the sills below them, and it dries into a crust rather than a haze. Late summer adds the harvest, when chaff and fine soil off the surrounding fields land on everything for a fortnight. The 1960s and 1970s houses have large single picture windows and full height panes beside the front door, so one dirty section is very visible. Most properties have a drive, which means the pole reaches everything from the ground without anyone needing to be home.

Keyworth sits in NG12, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly a village core with older cottages, surrounded by 1960s and 1970s estates and more recent development, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Keyworth window cleaning jobs

Houses of that era frequently still have original aluminium or first generation uPVC frames, and both have earned a specific fault. The drainage slots at the bottom of the outer frame silt up with exactly the grit the rain throws at them. Once blocked, water pools inside the frame and works its way to the sill and the plaster below, which then gets diagnosed as a failed seal and quoted for as a replacement unit. Clearing those slots takes about a minute per window and is part of the clean rather than an extra.

How a Keyworth window cleaning job actually runs

The village is done in one pass on a fixed day, because a water fed pole system runs off a tank filled before we set out and a round scattered across the week wastes most of it. That has a consequence you will notice: your date moves as a block rather than on its own when weather takes a day out. Frost is what takes it out. Purified water freezes in the hose and on the glass, so a hard morning gets rescheduled rather than worked through, and in December and January that can push a whole village round on by several days. With nobody home the back garden is the variable. A side gate bolted from the inside, a locked passage past the garage or a dog loose in the garden all stop the rear elevation dead, so we agree once how the back is reached and it never comes up again. In the older core there is often nowhere to park at all, so the van stops further off and the reel gets run out along the pavement.

Who books it here

The local reference points are the British Geological Survey, Keyworth village centre and Wolds Drive, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

We run Keyworth on the same round as Ruddington, West Bridgford and Clifton.

What we check on every Keyworth job

What gets cleaned besides the pane: the sill and the apron of render or pebbledash beneath it, which is where the gritty splash dries hardest; the ledge over a bay; both faces of a porch; the hoods above trickle vents, which hold grit and then drip a dirty line down clean glass an hour after we leave; and north facing frames, where green algae grows in the corners and returns faster than the dirt does. On the cottage frontages the frames are painted timber with putty glazing lines, so they are flooded and brushed softly rather than scrubbed, because a stiff brush lifts flaking paint and turns a clean into a decorating job. Gates and side access are left exactly as found, bolted if they were bolted, and if a gate stands open with a dog in the garden we stop and contact you rather than work round it.

What the window cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Exterior: Glass, frames and sills cleaned together
  • Exterior: Water-fed pole system using purified water, reaching up to four storeys
  • Also: Commercial frontages on a weekly or fortnightly rota
  • Also: Green algae on north-facing frames

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full window cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What window cleaning costs in Keyworth

Exterior glass on a rota. Interiors are charged separately and need access. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

PropertyTypical per visit
Terraced house£12 to £20
Semi-detached£15 to £28
Detached£25 to £45
Interiors, added to a visitRoughly half again
Commercial frontageQuoted on frequency

The first clean of glass that has been left costs more than the ones after it, which is why a rota works out cheaper than an annual rescue.

First clean of neglected glassHigher than the rota price

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

How often do windows need doing out here?

Six to eight weeks suits most Keyworth properties, which is the longer end of the range because there is no main road film building up. The exception is the ground floor after a wet spell or during harvest. If your windows face a lane or open field, the bottom half needs doing sooner than the top half ever will.

Can you do the insides while we are out?

Yes, on the same key safe arrangement as a regular clean, and late winter is when it is worth booking. Daylight is scarce in January and February, and the film that builds on the inside of the glass through a sealed up winter costs you a noticeable share of what little there is.

Can you do the conservatory roof as part of the rota?

Yes, though at a longer interval than the walls, since roof glazing gets dirty from above and shows it less. The parts that matter are the box gutter where the roof meets the house, which fills with moss and leaf litter off mature garden trees, and the glazing bars either side of it. Say if the roof is polycarbonate rather than glass, because older sheet scratches easily and gets flooded and rinsed rather than brushed.

We are out all day. Does anything on the drive need moving before you come?

A car parked tight against the house is the usual one, because the pole needs a working angle and standing over a bonnet to reach a bedroom window is how paint gets scratched. Otherwise: hanging baskets on the brackets we work past, a trampoline pushed up to a rear window, and bins left out under a sill on collection day. None of it stops us, but each one costs a few minutes that come out of the visit.

Do you cover the whole of Keyworth?

Yes, all of NG12 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does window cleaning cost in Keyworth?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of windows, how many storeys, and whether interiors are included with the exterior rota. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start window cleaning in Keyworth?

Within a fortnight to join the rota, and the first clean of neglected glass takes longer than the ones after it. Drives on most properties, and we group Keyworth with Ruddington, West Bridgford and Clifton on the rota.
