Window Cleaning for Forest Fields homes

Exteriors are simple, interiors are the problem, because six let rooms means six people who would have to be in. Fronts facing the road need a shorter rota than the backs, and the yard behind leaves no ground for a ladder.

Exteriors are straightforward and interiors are the hard part, which is the opposite of most places we work. A terrace with six let rooms has six people who would have to be in, and none of them booked the window cleaner. So the sensible arrangement is exteriors on a rota off a water fed pole, with interiors done at a changeover when a room is empty, or agreed with the landlord for the communal windows only. The front elevation faces a pavement and a road, so the ground floor bay picks up splash from standing water at the kerb through the winter and needs a shorter rota than the bedroom windows above it.

Forest Fields sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly dense Victorian and Edwardian terraces on a tight grid off Berridge Road and Bentinck Road, a large share of them now shared houses or converted into flats, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Forest Fields window cleaning jobs

Around the back the constraint is the space rather than the height. The back addition sits over a yard the width of a room, with a wall and often a shed against it, so there is no ground to stand a ladder on and the pole has to go up at an angle with a wall behind it. It works, and it is slower than the front. The other thing we find is windows that have been screwed shut or painted over, which happens where a landlord has fitted restrictors. Those get cleaned from outside only, and if the interior has not been reachable for years the difference is worth photographing so somebody makes a decision about it.

How a Forest Fields window cleaning job actually runs

The round here works street by street on a fixed rota, because a van carrying purified water cannot be repositioned every few doors on terraces where kerb space is contested all day. We park once, cover a run of houses on foot with the pole and hose, and refill when the tank runs down. That is why we ask new customers which street they are on rather than just the postcode, and why a house on its own miles from the rest of the round is harder to fit than one on a street we already do. You get a message the day before so gates can be unlocked and cars moved off a shared entry. We clean in most weather, including light rain, since purified water and a rinse leave nothing behind to spot, but we will not put a pole up in high wind and we will say so rather than turning up and doing half a job. Around Goose Fair and on busy park and ride days the Forest end of the round moves earlier, and payment is by transfer after the visit rather than at the door.

Who books it here

The local reference points are the Forest Recreation Ground, Goose Fair week, the Forest tram stop and Gregory Boulevard, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

We run Forest Fields on the same round as Hyson Green, New Basford and Radford.

What we check on every Forest Fields job

The glass is only part of it. Frames, sills and the rubber seals get washed on every visit, because on a front elevation this close to the road it is road film on the frame that makes clean glass look dirty within a week. Corners and the reveal above the bay get brushed for cobwebs, and the front door glass, the letterbox and the number plate on the door are done as standard. On the back addition we check the pole angle before we start rather than reaching over a shed and risking the glass. Anything we find gets reported: a misted double glazed unit where the seal has failed, a cracked pane, a rotten sill, a restrictor holding a window shut, or a sash that has been painted over. We rinse from the top down and leave the frames wet with pure water so they dry clear, and we close and latch any gate we opened.

What the window cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Interior: Edges detailed with a dry microfibre
  • Interior: Glass washed, squeegeed in a single continuous pass and buffed dry
  • Interior: Frame, sill and track dusted and vacuumed first, so you are not making mud
  • Exterior: Drainage holes at the bottom of the frame cleared, which otherwise block and let water pool inside

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full window cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Forest Fields property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What window cleaning costs in Forest Fields

Exterior glass on a rota. Interiors are charged separately and need access. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£15 to £28

Typical per visit in Forest Fields. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per visit
Terraced house£12 to £20
Semi-detached£15 to £28
Detached£25 to £45
Interiors, added to a visitRoughly half again
Commercial frontageQuoted on frequency

The first clean of glass that has been left costs more than the ones after it, which is why a rota works out cheaper than an annual rescue.

ExtraTypical cost
Conservatory roofQuoted after seeing it
First clean of neglected glassHigher than the rota price

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Nobody is ever in. Can you still do the inside?

Only if there is a way in that everybody in the house has agreed to, which in a shared property usually means the landlord arranging it rather than one tenant. The workable version is interiors booked at a void, between one tenant leaving and the next arriving, when the room is empty and the whole house can be done in one visit. Communal windows on the stairs and landing can be done any time somebody is home to open the door.

Can you reach the back windows if the entry is gated?

Usually, and it is worth telling us before the first visit. Many of these blocks of terraces have a shared entry with a gate that somebody has fitted a padlock to, and the alternative is carrying poles through the house, which is fine if there is somebody in and awkward if there is not. If the yard gate has a code or a key safe, put it on the booking and the back elevation stops being the part that gets skipped.

What happens if it rains on the day you are due?

We usually work through it. Purified water leaves no residue, so a rinsed window dries clear whether or not it is raining an hour later, and rain itself is largely clean until it picks up dirt off a frame we have just washed. What stops us is wind, because a pole several storeys up is not safe in a gust, and ice, because a wet path outside somebody's front door is a hazard. If we skip you, you go to the front of the next run.

Can we join the round if our street is not on it yet?

Tell us where you are and we will say honestly whether it fits. The round is built around covering a run of houses from one parked van, so a single house away from the rest is hard to price for the same rota. What often works is a few neighbours on the same terrace going on together, which makes the stop worthwhile and usually means a more reliable interval for everybody on that stretch.

Do you cover the whole of Forest Fields?

Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does window cleaning cost in Forest Fields?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of windows, how many storeys, and whether interiors are included with the exterior rota. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start window cleaning in Forest Fields?

Within a fortnight to join the rota, and the first clean of neglected glass takes longer than the ones after it. Parking is on-street with cars nose to tail both sides, and the shared back entries are often the easier way in with equipment, and we group Forest Fields with Hyson Green, New Basford and Radford on the rota.
