Window Cleaning for Daybrook homes

The front of a house on this stretch is dirty long before the back of it is. We would rather run the front elevation on a shorter interval than the rear than pretend one frequency suits both.

One rota does not fit a house on this road. The front elevation takes a traffic film that dries grey and even rather than streaky, so it reads as poor cleaning instead of dirt, and it is back within a month. The rear of the same house, facing a garden, still looks reasonable at eight weeks. We would rather run the front on a short interval and the back on a longer one than average the two and leave you unhappy with both. Interiors matter here for the same reason: the film builds on the inside of the front glass as well, and it takes the light out of a front room through a Nottingham winter, which is when there is least of it to spare.

Daybrook sits in NG5, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly interwar bay-fronted semis on the roads off Mansfield Road, a run of older terraces near the brewery site, and postwar and modern infill filling the gaps between them, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Daybrook window cleaning jobs

Original metal casements are the awkward ones. Where they survive in a front bay the opening lights are small, the glazing bars sit close together, and every pane has to be detailed on its own rather than swept in one pass. The frames rust outward from the hinge, and a rust bloom under the paint is not dirt, so scrubbing at it takes the paint with it and leaves the window worse than it was. We wash them, dry the frame rather than leaving it wet, and tell you where the rust is instead of attacking it. The ledge below is deep enough to collect leaf litter, which stays damp on a shaded pair and marks the paintwork.

How a Daybrook window cleaning job actually runs

Access decides what a window round here looks like. On the parade the shopfronts and the flat windows above them can only be reached from a pavement carrying a bus route, so that work is done with a pole fed system early, before the footfall builds, rather than off a ladder in the middle of the morning. Behind the corridor the semis are straightforward at the front and less so at the back, where a rear extension or a conservatory sits directly beneath the first floor bedroom glass and there is nowhere safe to stand a ladder at all. Pole fed reach handles nearly all of that, and where it genuinely will not we say so rather than improvise. The other thing worth settling at the start is the side gate. Plenty of these houses have no way through to the rear except a gate bolted from the garden side, so when nobody is home the back of the property does not get done and you have paid for half a clean.

Who books it here

The local reference points are the Home Brewery building, St Paul's church on Mansfield Road and Daybrook Square, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

We run Daybrook on the same round as Arnold, Woodthorpe and Sherwood.

What we check on every Daybrook job

Purified water is the reason a pole fed clean is left to dry rather than buffed, and it is worth knowing that before you look out of the window. The glass stays visibly wet for a while and then dries without spotting, so judging the job ten minutes after we leave gives you the wrong answer. Frames and rubbers get washed on the same pass, since a clean pane above a dirty rubber runs dirty again with the first rain. On the older bays we check the flat roof over the window while we are up there, because it collects leaf and moss debris that blocks the outlet and then sits against the timber underneath. Conservatory roofs behind these houses want the same look, since the algae that greens the panels starts in the gutter line rather than in the middle of the glass, and clearing it there is what keeps the rest of the roof looking right for longer.

What the window cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Also: Conservatory roofs and glazing
  • Interior: Internal glazed doors, mirrors and glass partitions
  • Interior: Edges detailed with a dry microfibre
  • Interior: Glass washed, squeegeed in a single continuous pass and buffed dry

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full window cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What window cleaning costs in Daybrook

Exterior glass on a rota. Interiors are charged separately and need access. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£15 to £28

Typical per visit in Daybrook. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per visit
Terraced house£12 to £20
Semi-detached£15 to £28
Detached£25 to £45
Interiors, added to a visitRoughly half again
Commercial frontageQuoted on frequency

The first clean of glass that has been left costs more than the ones after it, which is why a rota works out cheaper than an annual rescue.

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Can we have the front done more often than the back?

Yes, and on this road it is the sensible arrangement. The whole property goes on a longer cycle and the front elevation gets added in between, which costs less than pulling the entire house forward and keeps the side everyone actually looks at in good order. It suits the ground floor front window in particular, since that is the pane taking the worst of the spray thrown off the road all winter.

Why does the inside of the front windows go grey so quickly?

Because a film builds on the inside as well as the outside, and on a busy road it builds faster. Warm air carries cooking residue and household dust up onto the glass, traffic particulate arrives through trickle vents and open windows, and the two bind together into something a quick wipe moves around. It costs you daylight well before anyone identifies it as dirt. Twice a year suits most rooms, more for a front room you sit in.

Do we need to be home when you come?

Not for the front, and for the back only if the side gate is bolted from the inside. Most people either leave the bolt off on their day or fit a gate lock with a code we can be given. If neither is possible we will do the accessible elevations and come back for the rest, but it is far better to sort the gate once than to run half a clean every visit. Tell us at the start which arrangement you want.

There is a cloudy patch between the panes that will not come off.

That is a failed seal in the double glazed unit rather than dirt, and no amount of cleaning will touch it because the moisture is sealed inside the glass. It usually starts as a haze low down in one corner and spreads across the pane over a few seasons. The fix is a replacement unit, which a glazier can do without changing the frame. We will point out which panes have gone so you are not paying us to clean a fault.

Do you cover the whole of Daybrook?

Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does window cleaning cost in Daybrook?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of windows, how many storeys, and whether interiors are included with the exterior rota. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start window cleaning in Daybrook?

Within a fortnight to join the rota, and the first clean of neglected glass takes longer than the ones after it. Most houses have a drive, though on the older pairs it is one narrow strip and usually already occupied, and we group Daybrook with Arnold, Woodthorpe and Sherwood on the rota.
