Why do our windows go sticky again a fortnight after they are cleaned?
Because it is honeydew rather than dirt. Aphids in the lime and sycamore trees along these roads drop a fine sugary mist onto whatever sits below them, and it dries tacky and then holds every bit of dust and pollen that lands on it. Plain water spreads it about rather than lifting it, so it needs a detergent pass and a rinse, and through July and August the rota wants shortening on the elevations under the trees.
