Domestic Cleaning for Daybrook homes

Interwar semis where the bedroom count tells you very little. Every one of these kitchens has been altered differently, and whether the pantry is still there or has been swallowed into the units is what decides the hours.

A 1930s semi on these streets is a known plan: front room, back room, kitchen at the end, three bedrooms and a bathroom over the hall. What is not known is what has happened to the back of it. Some still have the original pantry and a separate kitchen door. Most have lost one or both to a knock-through, a rear extension or a garage conversion, and a few have gained a utility that takes the washing machine out of the kitchen altogether. Two houses in the same pair can differ by an hour on that alone, which is why we ask about the kitchen and the bathrooms before the bedroom count. That is where a fortnightly visit genuinely spends its time.

Daybrook sits in NG5, under Gedling Borough Council. Fortnightly domestic visits in the semis make up most of the round. Deep cleans here tend to be booked around a move rather than to a season, either before a house goes on the market or in the empty week after completion. Window cleaning is the third, and it is the front elevation that sells it.

What we run into on Daybrook domestic cleaning jobs

The join between the old kitchen and whatever was added to it is the recurring one. There is almost always a change of floor covering across it, often a slight step, and the lip collects crumbs and grit that a mop pushes along rather than picks up. We vacuum that line before any wet work rather than after it. The other is the narrow gap left beside a fridge or a tall unit where a pantry was filled in, usually about a hand's width, dark, and holding whatever has gone down it since the units went in. That wants a thin tool and a torch rather than an optimistic sweep with a mop handle.

How a Daybrook domestic cleaning job actually runs

Regular domestic work here goes through two very different front doors. One is a flat over the shop parade on the Mansfield Road corridor, reached by a shared street door and a straight run of stairs, with no lift and nowhere to stop outside for longer than a moment. The other is a house on one of the later infill closes set back behind the corridor, built into the gaps between the interwar semis, with a narrow galley kitchen, a downstairs cloakroom and a patio door onto a small garden. The same weekly hours buy different things in each. A flat is mostly kitchen and bathroom with one living space carrying everything, so the surfaces are crowded and the visit is as much about clearing and resetting as wiping. The infill house has more rooms with less in each of them, so the time goes on floors, stairs and glass instead. We would rather build the round around what your property actually is than price it off a room count and hope the two match.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Most houses have a drive, though on the older pairs it is one narrow strip and usually already occupied. We park on the side streets rather than the A60, which has no legal space and a bus route running along it.

We run Daybrook on the same round as Arnold, Woodthorpe and Sherwood.

What we check on every Daybrook job

Two things eat the clock in a flat over the parade and neither shows up on a room list. The first is that everything is carried up, so we bring what fits in one trip and leave a second set of cloths on the landing rather than going back down mid visit. The second is the kitchen extract. Where a hob vents through the wall into a rear yard or a light well, grease finds its way back onto the inside of the frame and the trim around it stays tacky between visits. In the infill houses it is the patio door track instead. Grit and pet hair pack down into the runner, the vacuum head is too wide to reach it, and it wants a crevice tool and a stiff brush every few visits rather than another wipe along the glass.

What the domestic cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Bedrooms and living areas: Vacuuming throughout
  • Kitchen: Appliance fronts
  • Bathrooms: Bath and shower, including the screen
  • Bedrooms and living areas: Mirrors and glass

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full domestic cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What domestic cleaning costs in Daybrook

Regular domestic cleaning, per visit, at a typical company rate. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£50 to £70

Typical per visit in Daybrook. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per visit
1 bed flat£40 to £50
2 bed£50 to £70
3 bed£60 to £80
4 bed£80 to £100
5 bed£100 to £120

A fortnightly clean of a two bedroom home works out around £1,560 to £1,820 a year. Weekly is roughly double.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Regular domestic, per hour£17 to £25
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Is a 1930s semi quicker to clean than a modern house with the same number of rooms?

Usually slower, room for room. The rooms are boxier and have more corners, the skirting is deeper, and the staircase has a run of spindles that a modern house does not. Against that, the plan is compact and there is no open plan space swallowing floor area. The kitchen decides it in the end, and specifically how much of the kitchen was fitted in the last ten years.

Do you clean the front porch?

If it is enclosed and part of the house, yes, and it is worth putting on the list. A porch on this stretch catches everything the road throws at it: grit across the tiles, a mat that stopped trapping anything two winters ago, and glass that greys faster than any other pane in the property. It is a few minutes on a regular visit and it changes the first thing anyone sees.

Can you clean while we are out at work?

Most of our regular visits happen in an empty property, so yes. What we need agreed first is entry. On the parade there is a shared street door as well as your own, and a code that works for one and not the other stops the visit at the pavement. A keysafe is fine if it is fitted somewhere sensible. We confirm the arrangement in writing, and we tell you if a code stops working rather than letting you find out later.

The flat is only a few rooms. Is a shorter regular visit worth booking?

It is, provided you tell us what matters most. A short visit in a one bed flat works when it has a fixed spine: kitchen surfaces and hob, bathroom in full, floors throughout, and one agreed extra that rotates week to week. What does not work is trying to fit a whole house standard into a short slot, because everything ends up half done. Say which two rooms you want right every time and we will hold the rest on rotation.

Do you cover the whole of Daybrook?

Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does domestic cleaning cost in Daybrook?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the bathroom count more than the bedroom count, how often we come, and whether there are pets. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start domestic cleaning in Daybrook?

Usually within a week for a regular rota, and we will tell you the day rather than a window. Most houses have a drive, though on the older pairs it is one narrow strip and usually already occupied, and we group Daybrook with Arnold, Woodthorpe and Sherwood on the rota.
