Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Daybrook homes
Downstairs rooms opened into one, so the carpet runs over an old hearth line and a joining seam, and the furniture has stood in the same positions for years. Cleaning shows both up, and we say so beforehand.
Nearly every one of these semis has had the two downstairs rooms opened into one at some point, and the carpet is where that shows. There is a seam across the middle where two widths were joined, a band of different wear either side of it, and often a hard line where an old hearth was taken out and the floor made good. Furniture then stays put for years, because a knock-through leaves you exactly one sensible arrangement, so the pile under a sofa keeps its colour and height while everything around it fades and flattens. Cleaning that room does not even the two out. It lifts the soil that was blurring the difference, which makes the difference clearer, and that is a conversation to have before rather than after.
Daybrook sits in NG5, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly interwar bay-fronted semis on the roads off Mansfield Road, a run of older terraces near the brewery site, and postwar and modern infill filling the gaps between them, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Daybrook carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
The back door is the other one, and it is worse here than the front. Gardens on the low ground stay soft into May, so what comes in is wet soil rather than dry grit, and it goes across the kitchen and onto the first metre of carpet in the hall. Wet soil bonds to the fibre as it dries, which is why that patch never responds to vacuuming and why it needs a pre-spray with proper dwell time rather than a heavier pass with the wand. We lift and check the underlay at a threshold like that too, because one that has been damp for several winters can be holding more than the carpet above it.
How a Daybrook carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
In an interwar semi the staircase takes more traffic than any other carpeted area in the house, and it is the piece most often left off a booking. Everyone walks the same line up the middle of the tread, the bottom two steps take whatever comes off the hall floor, and the turn at the top collects what has been carried past it. Upholstery in this stock has a matching pattern. Front rooms are small, so a suite goes where it fits rather than where it would be best, which usually means one seat under the window and one arm hard against a radiator. That seat fades while the others do not, and the warm arm ends up holding more airborne dust than the rest of the frame. The landing carries a third pattern again, since it is walked in a tight loop between the bedroom doors and the bathroom and barely touched anywhere else. We would rather book stairs, landing and a suite as a job in its own right than add them to the end of a room clean and rush the hand work they need.
Who books it here
Fortnightly domestic visits in the semis make up most of the round. Deep cleans here tend to be booked around a move rather than to a season, either before a house goes on the market or in the empty week after completion. Window cleaning is the third, and it is the front elevation that sells it.
We run Daybrook on the same round as Arnold, Woodthorpe and Sherwood.
What we check on every Daybrook job
Stairs are hand tool work from top to bottom. A wand cannot sit flat on a tread, so the nosing, which is the part that wears first, gets missed by exactly the tool people assume is doing it. We work each tread and riser separately and keep the moisture down deliberately, because a wet staircase is a hazard in a narrow hall for the rest of the day. On upholstery the first job is the label, usually stapled under a cushion platform or inside the base. The cleaning code on it decides whether a fabric can take water at all, and a suite that has been reupholstered may carry a label describing something it no longer is. Where there is no label we test a hidden spot on the base and work from what the fabric does rather than a guess. Zipped cushion covers are the trap in the other direction, since taking them off to clean separately is how a set ends up shrunk and no longer fitting.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Also covered: Mattresses, HEPA vacuumed with low-moisture spot treatment
- Also covered: Pet urine, with enzymatic pre-treatment and extra dwell time
- Carpets: Fibre identified and a colourfast test in an inconspicuous area
- Carpets: Thorough dry vacuum first
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Daybrook
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£35 to £60
Typical one-off in Daybrook. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical one-off |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Single room | £35 to £60 |
| Hallway, stairs and landing | £45 to £85 |
| 2 bed flat, throughout | £75 to £175 |
| 3 bed house, throughout | £140 to £260 |
| 4 bed house, throughout | £200 to £350 |
Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Upholstery, 3 seat sofa | £45 to £90 |
| Mattress clean | £30 to £60 |
| Pet urine treatment, per spot | £15 to £40 |
| Rug, per square metre | £8 to £20 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Will cleaning show up where the furniture has been standing?
It can, and it is fairer to say so beforehand. Pile that has been covered for years keeps its colour and its height while the rest fades in daylight and flattens underfoot, and the soil sitting on the exposed part was hiding some of that contrast. It is not damage, and it does not get worse. If you are planning to rearrange the room, move things first and let us clean the whole floor in one visit.
Is there any point cleaning a carpet we plan to replace next year?
Sometimes, and sometimes not. If the fibre tips have already abraded along the traffic route, that carpet is worn rather than dirty, cleaning will not bring it back, and we would rather you put the money toward the replacement. If it is soiled but the pile still stands up, a clean will carry it comfortably through the last year and take the smell out of a room that has had a dog living in it.
How long before we can use the stairs again?
Walkable in socks fairly soon after we finish, fully dry later the same day in a ventilated house. We keep stairs deliberately drier than a floor for that reason, and we work them so the last treads finished are at the top rather than trapping anyone. If there is only one staircase and someone in the house is unsteady on their feet, say so when you book and we will schedule it for a morning so it has the whole day to dry.
Our sofa label says dry clean only. Can you still clean it?
Sometimes, with a solvent based method rather than water, and sometimes the honest answer is no. The code on the label tells us what the fabric will tolerate, and we test a hidden area before anything else regardless of what it says. Where a suite cannot take wet cleaning we will tell you what a dry method will and will not achieve, which is usually good on soil and dust and limited on old set stains, so you can decide before we start.
Do you cover the whole of Daybrook?
Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Daybrook?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Daybrook?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Most houses have a drive, though on the older pairs it is one narrow strip and usually already occupied, and we group Daybrook with Arnold, Woodthorpe and Sherwood on the rota.
