Domestic Cleaning for Bestwood homes

Estate semis with concrete ground floors and long back gardens, on a fortnightly rota with the house empty. The floors do most of the work, because sandstone grit off the park comes in daily and a mop pushes it about rather than lifting it.

Most of this is fortnightly work in family houses with nobody in, and the order of the visit matters more here than the room count does. Floors come last, because the ground floor is a concrete slab with vinyl or laminate laid over it, and the grit that arrives off the park sits on top of a hard surface rather than disappearing into a pile. It is visible, it scratches, and it is back within a day if the garden door has been open. The other thing shaping a visit is the size of the plot against the size of the house. These gardens are long, so more comes in through the back than the room count suggests, and there are more dogs per street than average because the open ground starts at the end of it.

Bestwood sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. Family households on a fortnightly rota make up most of it, with deep cleans booked in spring once the winter mud has stopped arriving daily. Carpet extraction is asked for more often here than almost anywhere else on our patch, and it is usually the hall, stairs and landing rather than the whole house.

What we run into on Bestwood domestic cleaning jobs

The threshold strip where the kitchen floor meets the hall carpet is the spot that gives an estate house away. Grit collects along the aluminium bar, works under the cut edge of the carpet, and a vacuum head rides straight over the top of it, so it comes out with a crevice tool every visit instead. The other one is the panel radiator under the front window. Heating went into these houses room by room over the years, so the pipe boxing round them differs from address to address, and the dust felted between the fins drops onto the floor the first morning the heating comes back on in October.

How a Bestwood domestic cleaning job actually runs

Regular household work in Bestwood runs on a fortnightly round, and most visits happen with nobody home. The estate layout makes that straightforward: a drive or a verge to park on, a side gate, and a back door that is the one everybody actually uses. Keys or a safe code are agreed in writing at the first visit and logged, so the same cleaner arrives each time rather than a different pair of hands every fortnight. The task list is settled at that visit too, because these houses differ far more inside than they do from the pavement. Some keep the original small kitchen with a separate dining room behind it. Plenty have been opened out. A good number now carry an extension across the width of the back, which adds a room the original plan never had and usually a second set of patio doors. Each of those changes the hours a visit needs, so the list goes on paper room by room and gets revised when the house changes.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Wide roads and grass verges, and a drive or hardstanding on most properties, so parking rarely costs us time. The verges are the catch in winter: a van parked half on one leaves ruts, so we stay on the road and carry in.

We run Bestwood on the same round as Old Basford, Bulwell and Arnold.

What we check on every Bestwood job

Every house here gets a written task list at the first visit, split into what happens every time and what happens on a rota. Bathrooms, kitchen surfaces, floors and touch points sit on the fortnightly side. Skirtings, door frames, the tops of the kitchen units and behind the settee sit on the rota, so nothing waits a year without being named. Products are matched to the surface rather than the room: a pH neutral cleaner on laminate and vinyl, nothing acidic near a stone hearth, and a cloth colour that never crosses from the bathroom to the kitchen. If the hours run short, the cleaner leaves a note saying which rota item has moved to the next visit instead of leaving you to work it out. Tell us what has been missed and we come back to it on the next visit rather than debating whether it was ever on the list.

What the domestic cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Bathrooms: Toilet inside and out, including the seat, hinges and base
  • Kitchen: Bin emptied and relined
  • Kitchen: Appliance fronts
  • Kitchen: Sink and taps cleaned and polished

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full domestic cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What domestic cleaning costs in Bestwood

Regular domestic cleaning, per visit, at a typical company rate. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£50 to £70

Typical per visit in Bestwood. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per visit
1 bed flat£40 to £50
2 bed£50 to £70
3 bed£60 to £80
4 bed£80 to £100
5 bed£100 to £120

A fortnightly clean of a two bedroom home works out around £1,560 to £1,820 a year. Weekly is roughly double.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Regular domestic, per hour£17 to £25
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The floor looks gritty again two days after you come. Why?

Because it is arriving faster than a fortnightly visit takes it away. The paths across the country park are cut into sandstone rather than clay, so what gets walked in is a fine pale sand that shows on a dark floor within a day and does not wash off a boot in the rain. A barrier mat inside the back door and a stiff one outside it catches most of it, and it is the cheapest thing anyone here can do between visits.

We have a dog and the park is at the end of the road. What does that change?

The floors and the order they are done in, mostly. We vacuum thoroughly before anything wet goes down, because mopping over sand grinds it into the surface rather than removing it. Hair on soft furnishings comes off with a rubber brush rather than a vacuum head, which lifts far more of it. A hall carpet with a dog and open ground nearby will still want extraction once a year, whatever the regular visits achieve.

Do we need to be in when you clean?

No, and most households here are not. We hold a key or a safe code, recorded against your address and signed for, and the cleaner puts it back in the same place at the end of the visit. If you would rather be in for the first clean so you can walk the house with us and set the task list, that works well and takes about twenty minutes. After that, the key arrangement suits a fortnightly round far better than waiting in for us.

Should we tidy up before you arrive?

A quick clear of the surfaces helps more than anything else, because time spent moving a worktop full of post is time not spent cleaning that worktop. Beyond that, no. We will not sort a child's bedroom floor into piles, and we will not put away anything we are unsure about. If you want washing up, toys or laundry included, say so and it goes on the list as a task with hours against it rather than as a favour.

Do you cover the whole of Bestwood?

Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does domestic cleaning cost in Bestwood?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the bathroom count more than the bedroom count, how often we come, and whether there are pets. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start domestic cleaning in Bestwood?

Usually within a week for a regular rota, and we will tell you the day rather than a window. Wide roads and grass verges, and a drive or hardstanding on most properties, so parking rarely costs us time, and we group Bestwood with Old Basford, Bulwell and Arnold on the rota.
