Deep Cleaning for Bestwood homes

Spring resets in houses that have never had one, booked because of the floors rather than the kitchen. Walking in off the park through a winter dulls hard floors and greys the kitchen grout, and both need a machine rather than a mop.

The deep clean that gets booked here is nearly always a spring one, and it is booked because of the floors. Six months of walking in off the park leaves a house where the hard floors have gone matt, the carpet edges have darkened against the middle of the room, and the kitchen grout has taken on the colour of the paths outside. That is where the day starts. Grout comes back further than people expect, with a brush and proper contact time rather than pressure, and a hard floor that has only ever been mopped needs the film mopping left on it taken off before anything improves. The oven, the extractor filter and the limescale run alongside that, on products and dwell time, while the floors take the labour.

Bestwood sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly postwar estate semis and short terraces laid out around wide grass verges, with 1970s and 1980s infill, and later private closes on the ground nearest the country park, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Bestwood deep cleaning jobs

Hot water cylinders are still in a good number of these houses, and the airing cupboard round one is a space nobody has emptied. The slatted shelves hold lint, the floor of it holds whatever fell behind the towels, and the cylinder jacket sheds fibres onto both. It gets cleared, vacuumed and put back in order rather than wiped round the front. The other volume nobody reaches is under the stairs. On this layout it is either a cupboard with the electricity meter in it or an open recess used for coats and a vacuum cleaner, and in both cases it is unlit, unfinished and holds more dust than any room in the house.

How a Bestwood deep cleaning job actually runs

A deep clean is one long visit that goes after everything a regular round never reaches, and in Bestwood it tends to be booked for one of three reasons: a house going on the market, a relative moving in or out, or a kitchen and bathroom that have had a fortnightly wipe for years and nothing more. The plan is built around what these houses have absorbed over time. A good number have taken the old brick coal store off the back door into the house, as a utility or a downstairs cloakroom, and that space almost always keeps a cold outside wall, a gritty floor and sealant that has been painted over rather than renewed. Bathrooms are frequently the original small one upstairs with a shower added later. Kitchens are often two generations of units standing side by side. We survey before quoting and say where the day goes, because a deep clean sold as everything is a deep clean that runs out of time at four in the afternoon.

Who books it here

Houses back onto open ground and reclaimed pit land, so what comes through the door is pale sandstone grit rather than city dust. It is abrasive, it sits deep in carpet pile, and it is the reason floors here need more than a vacuum pass.

We run Bestwood on the same round as Old Basford, Bulwell and Arnold.

What we check on every Bestwood job

The day runs top down and room by room, and the slow jobs start first so they can sit. Oven racks go into solution before anything else happens. Limescale on taps, shower screens and the toilet wants contact time rather than force, so it goes on early and gets returned to twice. Sealant, grout and the seal round the bath get a brush rather than a cloth. Wardrobe tops, light fittings, extractor covers, the insides of the kitchen units and behind the fridge and washing machine are all named on the sheet, so you can see what was actually reached. Where something will not come back, painted over sealant, a scorched hob ring, a stained enamel bath, we say so at the survey and again on the day instead of spending your hours on it. That is a judgement about the surface itself, not about how hard anybody is prepared to scrub.

What the deep cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Inside, on top of and underneath all cupboards
  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Hob, including underneath the burner caps
  • Everywhere else: Carpet edges, which a normal vacuum pass misses
  • Everywhere else: Window interiors, sills, frames and the tracks they run in

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Bestwood property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What deep cleaning costs in Bestwood

A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£165 to £280

Typical one-off in Bestwood. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical one-off
Studio£110 to £180
1 bedroom£135 to £220
2 bedrooms£165 to £280
3 bedrooms£220 to £350
4 bedrooms£300 to £460

Our cost research puts a one-off deep clean of a two to three bedroom home at £165 to £350, which is the anchor the rest of this table is built around.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Single oven deep clean£45 to £80
Double oven£70 to £110
Range cooker£80 to £130

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Can the kitchen vinyl be brought back or does it need replacing?

Usually brought back. What makes a cushioned vinyl look dead is rarely the vinyl itself: it is a build up of mop residue with fine grit ground into it, and both lift with a stripping pass and a machine rather than another mop. Where the pattern has genuinely worn through along the traffic line, that is damage and no cleaning touches it. We say which it is at the quote rather than with the machine already out.

The house is seventy years old and has never had one. Will a single visit do it?

Usually, on this stock. The layouts are compact, there are no cellars, no back staircases and no rooms that have been shut up for years, so there is less hidden work than an equivalent period house. What decides it is the kitchen. If the oven and the extractor have both gone untouched for several years, that pair is half a day on its own, and we would rather say so when quoting than run out of time with the bathroom half done.

Do we need to empty the cupboards and wardrobes first?

Kitchen cupboards, yes, if you want the insides done, because unpacking and repacking somebody else's crockery eats a deep clean alive. Wardrobes and drawers stay shut unless you ask, and we do the tops, fronts and handles. Tell us at the survey which ones you want opened. It changes the hours enough that it needs to be planned in rather than attempted late in the afternoon when the day has already gone.

Is a deep clean just the regular clean done slowly?

No. A regular visit maintains surfaces that are already clean and works to a repeating list. A deep clean resets the house and goes at the things a fortnightly round deliberately leaves alone: inside the oven, behind and under the appliances, wardrobe tops, light fittings, extractor covers, grout, sealant and limescale. It is a different order of work, usually a full day with more than one cleaner, and a regular round afterwards holds the house at that level.

Do you cover the whole of Bestwood?

Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does deep cleaning cost in Bestwood?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start deep cleaning in Bestwood?

Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Wide roads and grass verges, and a drive or hardstanding on most properties, so parking rarely costs us time, and we group Bestwood with Old Basford, Bulwell and Arnold on the rota.
