Deep Cleaning for Old Basford homes
Usually booked on an empty terrace just after a sale, before the decorator arrives. The bathroom over the back extension and the airing cupboard around the old cylinder are where the hours actually go, not the bedrooms.
The commonest deep clean here happens in an empty house between exchange and moving in. Someone has bought a terrace, the carpets are up, and the property is showing everything the last owner's furniture was covering. Three things take the time. The bathroom sits over the back extension with outside wall on three sides, so scale and mould behave worse there than in a heated bathroom upstairs in a semi. The airing cupboard usually still has a hot water cylinder in it, and the boarded shelf under it holds decades of fluff. And the cellar head under the stairs is open to a pavement grate. None of that appears in a room count, which is why a two bedroom terrace can take longer than a three bedroom semi.
Old Basford sits in NG6, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly nineteenth century terraces built for the hosiery and lace trades, with postwar council semis filling the gaps left by clearance, and small modern closes on former factory land, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Old Basford deep cleaning jobs
Where the carpet has come up, the gripper rod is still nailed round the edge of every room and the tack strip along the stair edges with it. Those hold a compacted grey line of dust that has been building since the carpet went down, and it is the thing that makes a stripped room still smell of the old carpet. It comes out with a crevice tool and a stiff brush, working the gap between the rod and the skirting, and then the skirting can be washed. Doing it the other way round means washing the skirting twice. The same applies to the quadrant beading round a hearth if the fire has been taken out.
How an Old Basford deep cleaning job actually runs
The other deep clean we do here is in an occupied house rather than an empty one. It comes up before a family gathering, after a long illness or a stretch where someone could not keep on top of things, or when a landlord wants a let brought back to standard between tenants who are staying put. Occupied is harder than empty, and not because of the dirt. In a terrace there is no spare room to stage anything in, so whatever comes out of a cupboard has to go somewhere that is already in use, and the order of the rooms decides whether the day works. We start at the top and come down, we finish a room before opening the next one, and we agree beforehand which cupboards and which lofts are in scope. On the postwar semis there is usually a garage or a landing big enough to work from, and the same job runs quicker for that reason alone. Either way we walk the house first and give you the order we intend to work in.
Who books it here
A lot of the older houses had the outside toilet and coal store swallowed by a back kitchen at some point, which leaves a cold single-skin room at the rear holding the washing machine, the freezer and the muddy boots. It is routinely the room that costs the most time.
We run Old Basford on the same round as New Basford, Bulwell and Bestwood.
What we check on every Old Basford job
The wall behind a cooker in one of these back kitchens is the item that tells you when the last deep clean was. It is usually emulsion rather than tile beyond the splashback, and cooking grease goes into the paint film instead of sitting on it, so a wet cloth takes off the loose layer and leaves a shadow that looks like shading. Degreaser and patience shift most of it, working from the bottom upwards so the runs land on wall you have not cleaned yet. The gap between the cooker and the run of units is the companion job. A freestanding cooker on a gas hose will only pull out so far, and the sides of the neighbouring units carry a hard varnish of splatter that nobody has ever seen. Both are slow, and both are the reason a small kitchen can take longer than a large one.
What the deep cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Extractor hood and filter, degreased or replaced
- Bathrooms: Shower head soaked or bagged with descaler
- Everywhere else: Window interiors, sills, frames and the tracks they run in
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Fridge and freezer emptied, defrosted and washed including the seals
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What deep cleaning costs in Old Basford
A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£165 to £280
Typical one-off in Old Basford. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

| 2 bedrooms | £165 to £280 |
| 3 bedrooms | £220 to £350 |

Our cost research puts a one-off deep clean of a two to three bedroom home at £165 to £350, which is the anchor the rest of this table is built around.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Single oven deep clean | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker | £80 to £130 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Should the deep clean come before or after we decorate?
After the messy work and before the carpets go down, if you can arrange it that way. Sanding filler, cutting in and lifting old paper all put dust back into a room you have already paid to clean. Once the walls are finished, a deep clean gets into the gripper line, the window reveals and the floor before anything covers them again, and the fitters lay onto a clean subfloor rather than sealing the dust in.
The back bathroom is mouldy however often it is cleaned. Will a deep clean sort it?
It will clean everything that can be cleaned, and it will not stop it coming back. A room with three outside walls and one small radiator drops below the temperature the air needs to hold its moisture every time someone showers, and it condenses on the coldest surface. Where the mould is inside the silicone rather than on its face, the bead has to be cut out and replaced. We will say which of the two you have before we start.
Can a deep clean be split across two days?
Often that is the sensible way to do it in an occupied house. A full deep clean on a three bedroom terrace is a long day for a team, and if you are living in it while we work then splitting upstairs and downstairs across two visits means you keep somewhere usable throughout. It also lets an oven treatment sit for as long as it needs rather than being rushed to a finish time. We will say which split makes sense once we have seen the house.
What should we do before you arrive?
Clear the surfaces of anything personal or breakable, and tell us what you want left alone. We will move small furniture and pull out what is safe to pull out, but we do not empty wardrobes, sort paperwork or decide what is rubbish, because those are your decisions and not ours. If you want the insides of cupboards done, empty them beforehand or say so and we will build the time in. A loft or a cellar is a separate conversation rather than an assumption.
Do you cover the whole of Old Basford?
Yes, all of NG6 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does deep cleaning cost in Old Basford?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start deep cleaning in Old Basford?
Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. On-street throughout, and the terraced rows have shared rear entries that are frequently gated with a lock nobody has the key to any more, and we group Old Basford with New Basford, Bulwell and Bestwood on the rota.
