Deep Cleaning for Highbury Vale homes
The kitchen and bathroom here are ordinary. What takes the hours is everything soft and everything high in rooms that have been kept shut for a year, which is not what people picture when they book one.
A deep clean here is weighted differently from the standard one. The kitchen and the bathroom in these houses are ordinary and take ordinary hours. What is not ordinary is everything soft and everything high, because a room that is kept shut for most of the year is a closed box and the textiles in it are where the year has gone. Curtains and their linings, the upholstery, the mattress, and the top of every surface above head height, which in a house with warm moist air rising through it collects a deposit that is tacky rather than loose. So the day is planned around the front rooms rather than around the kitchen, and that is not what most people are picturing when they book.
Highbury Vale sits in NG6, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly interwar and postwar semis and short terraces set close together along the through road and the side streets off it, with a strong rented share and small front gardens onto the pavement, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Highbury Vale deep cleaning jobs
Ceilings are where a shut house shows its age. Above a radiator, and in a ring around the pendant, warm air carrying moisture and whatever is in it rises, cools on the plaster and leaves a deposit, so the ceiling discolours in a pattern rather than evenly. That pattern is the trap. Wash the dark part and you get a clean patch inside a dirty ceiling, which looks worse than leaving it. It has to be washed corner to corner in one go, with a light detergent and a barely damp head, working in overlapping runs. On matt emulsion that has already chalked, nothing will do it and we say so rather than making a map on your ceiling.
How a Highbury Vale deep cleaning job actually runs
A deep clean here is a carrying job before it is a cleaning one. Everything comes in through the front door and up a hall barely wide enough to pass somebody, and there is rarely a rear gate to bring gear round to, so we plan what we need on the pavement rather than fetching it in pieces all day. Inside, the constraint is space to put things down. Bedrooms in these houses take a bed and little else, so a room gets cleared into the landing, done, and put back before the next one opens, and that staging is why we ask for a full day and a house that is quiet rather than half occupied. We also ask early about water and power. An older upstairs may have one socket on a landing, and if the only outside tap has been isolated we work off the kitchen and plan the refills in. On a let property we book directly with whoever holds the keys, since a day like this cannot start late and still finish.
Who books it here
Living on a through route decides when windows get opened, which is hardly ever. Traffic noise at the front and road grit on everything near an open window mean most households ventilate as little as they can get away with, and the moisture that would otherwise leave the house stays in it.
We run Highbury Vale on the same round as Bulwell, Old Basford and Cinderhill.
What we check on every Highbury Vale job
The room that always needs more than people expect is the small bedroom, particularly where it sits over a shared entry or against an unheated side wall. The corner where two cold walls meet the ceiling goes first, and what appears there is not grey dust but a scatter of small black spots, often behind the wardrobe or above the picture rail where the air never moves. That is surface growth on cold plaster, and it wipes into a smear if anyone attacks it with a dry cloth. It takes a fungicidal wash left to dwell, worked gently so the emulsion stays put, and then a dry pass. What we will also tell you is that cleaning it treats the mark and not the cause, so if the wardrobe goes straight back tight against that wall it will be back by the turn of the year.
What the deep cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Everywhere else: High level dust: light fittings, door tops, picture rails, coving
- Bathrooms: Grout scrubbed and mouldy sealant identified
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Sink, taps, plughole and overflow descaled
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Fridge and freezer emptied, defrosted and washed including the seals
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What deep cleaning costs in Highbury Vale
A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

| 2 bedrooms | £165 to £280 |

Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Single oven deep clean | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker | £80 to £130 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Can the curtains be cleaned without taking them down?
Partly. On the pole we can vacuum both faces with an upholstery tool and a mesh guard, which lifts the loose dust and helps the smell. What it will not do is take out the deposit drawn through the fabric, and on this road there is plenty, especially in the lining and along the top hem. Lined curtains will not go in a domestic machine either, because the lining and the face shrink at different rates and the drop never hangs right again.
What order does a deep clean run in here, and how long does it take?
Top down and back to front. High level and the light fittings first, then the rooms on the garden side, then the front rooms, then the floors last so nothing lands on finished work. The front rooms go late because they hold the material everything else is being protected from, and disturbing the curtains and the sills there puts a great deal into the air. A three bedroom house is a full day, and more if the soft furnishings are being done properly.
Do we need to be out of the house for the day?
Not out, but out of the way. We work room by room and each room gets emptied onto the landing while it is done, so a house with everybody in it turns into a queue rather than a clean. If you can be downstairs while we do upstairs and then swap, that is enough. What genuinely helps is deciding beforehand where cleared items go, because in houses this size the only spare floor is the one we are standing on.
Will the black spotting in the bedroom corner come back?
It can, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. We treat the growth properly and the wall comes back to colour, but the corner is cold and still, and cold still air on plaster is what fed it. Pull the furniture a hand's width off the wall so air can pass behind it, use the bedroom extract or open the window when it is quiet enough to, and it stays away far longer. Without that it returns in the colder months.
Do you cover the whole of Highbury Vale?
Yes, all of NG6 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does deep cleaning cost in Highbury Vale?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start deep cleaning in Highbury Vale?
Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Front gardens are too short for a drive, and the through road is no place to leave a van, and we group Highbury Vale with Bulwell, Old Basford and Cinderhill on the rota.
