Can you do anything about the cellar steps and the coal grate?
The steps and the cellar head we will clean if you ask for it and we allow the time, because it is not part of a regular visit. The grate itself is the actual problem: it is a hole in the pavement above your stairs, and until something covers it from below, grit and rain keep arriving. A tray or a fitted cover under the grate stops more dirt than any amount of sweeping.
