Domestic Cleaning for Old Basford homes
Two tenures on one street, so a fortnightly round here alternates between semis with a drive and terraces with a cold back kitchen full of coats and boots. The back kitchen is the part that decides the hours.
A round here runs down streets that change tenure every few doors, and the quote changes with it. A postwar semi has a hall, a through lounge, a square kitchen and a bathroom with a window, and it behaves like any other family house on a fortnightly visit. The terrace next to it has no hall, so the front door opens into the living room, and everything that comes off the street lands there first. It also has the back kitchen, which is the room that swallows time: single skin, colder than the rest of the house, and doing duty as utility room, boot room and freezer store. We ask which of the two you have before quoting, because guessing from the address gets it wrong as often as not.
Old Basford sits in NG6, under Nottingham City Council. Regular fortnightly work in the owner occupied semis, and a steady run of landlord turnarounds on the terraces, a lot of which are rented rather than lived in by their owners. Deep cleans come third and cluster after a sale, when the carpet has come up in an empty house and nobody expected what was under it.
What we run into on Old Basford domestic cleaning jobs
The back kitchen floor is the tell. Under whatever is down now there is usually the original brick or a thin screed laid over it, and the covering has gone on top without lifting anything, so it never sits flat and the edges lift where damp comes up. A mop pushes water into those edges and it stays there. We sweep it back to the covering before any water goes down, and we keep the mop dry enough that nothing pools at the joins. The freezer is worth pulling out annually, because the condenser coil on the back of an older one builds a felt of dust that makes it run constantly and warms the room it stands in.
How an Old Basford domestic cleaning job actually runs
Old Basford sits north of New Basford, between the tram line and the Leen valley, and the housing runs in bands: long industrial era terraces on the older streets, postwar infill filling the gaps where works and yards used to stand. That mix shapes how a regular round is planned. Most of the households we clean for are out at work when we call, so access is arranged in advance rather than assumed, and we agree in writing whether that means a key, a box, or someone at home. Parking is the other constraint. The terraced streets are narrow, parked on both sides, and there is nowhere to leave a van outside a house for two hours without blocking somebody, so we carry in what the visit needs and park where it is legal to. On the postwar closes there is usually a drive or a verge and none of that applies. We fix a day and a rough time and keep to it, because a fortnightly slot only works if the household can plan around it.
Who books it here
On the practical side: On-street throughout, and the terraced rows have shared rear entries that are frequently gated with a lock nobody has the key to any more. Tell us if the back way is usable, because otherwise the machine and the hose come through the living room.
We run Old Basford on the same round as New Basford, Bulwell and Bestwood.
What we check on every Old Basford job
In a terrace with no hall, the staircase comes straight out of the living room, and the bottom three treads and the newel post take everything the front door lets in. The newel is the one people miss: it is grabbed by every hand going up, and on a painted post that leaves a dull band at about waist height that wipes off easily but only if somebody actually wipes it. We do the post, the first few spindles and the treads at the foot of the flight every visit rather than saving them for the stair clean. The other place is the picture rail, which most of these front rooms still have. It holds a fur of dust along the top edge that a duster on a pole only smears, so it wants a damp cloth and a wipe dry behind it.
What the domestic cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Kitchen: Hob and splashback exterior
- Kitchen: Appliance fronts
- Kitchen: Microwave interior
- Kitchen: Bin emptied and relined
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full domestic cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Old Basford property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What domestic cleaning costs in Old Basford
Regular domestic cleaning, per visit, at a typical company rate. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£50 to £70
Typical per visit in Old Basford. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per visit |

Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Regular domestic, per hour | £17 to £25 |
| Ironing, per hour | £14 to £20 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Two houses on our street got very different quotes. Why?
Because they are different houses. A postwar semi and a Victorian terrace on the same road have different floor areas, different numbers of rooms and, more to the point, different back ends. A terrace with a bathroom over the rear extension and a cold back kitchen has two rooms the semi does not, and both are slow. Room count alone will not tell you which is which.
Is the back kitchen part of a regular clean?
Yes, the floor and the accessible surfaces are, the same as any other room. What we cannot do in a maintenance visit is deal with what has collected on top of the freezer, behind the machine and along the bottom of the outside door, because that is an hour on its own. If it has never been cleared, book it into a deep clean once and the fortnightly visits will hold it after that.
We are both out at work. How does the cleaner get in?
However you prefer, as long as it is agreed rather than improvised. Some households leave a key with us, some fit a key safe by the door, some have a neighbour or a relative let us in. Whichever it is, we record it and we tell you if a cleaner changes. What we will not do is take an instruction to find a key hidden outside, because on a terraced street with a front door onto the pavement that is not a safe arrangement for anybody.
There is nowhere to store cleaning gear. Do you bring your own?
Yes. We bring machines, cloths and products with us, which suits these houses because a terrace with a back kitchen doing three jobs already has no cupboard to spare. If you would rather we used your own products, for a fragrance preference or an allergy in the household, tell us and we will work with what you provide. We still bring our own colour coded cloths, because reusing a household cloth between a bathroom and a kitchen worktop is how things get moved around.
Do you cover the whole of Old Basford?
Yes, all of NG6 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does domestic cleaning cost in Old Basford?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the bathroom count more than the bedroom count, how often we come, and whether there are pets. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start domestic cleaning in Old Basford?
Usually within a week for a regular rota, and we will tell you the day rather than a window. On-street throughout, and the terraced rows have shared rear entries that are frequently gated with a lock nobody has the key to any more, and we group Old Basford with New Basford, Bulwell and Bestwood on the rota.
