Deep Cleaning for New Basford homes

Victorian terraces and former lace buildings with high ceilings, deep skirting and original features that collect a decade of dust above head height. High level work is the part that makes a room feel genuinely clean rather than tidy.

Two very different deep cleans share this postcode. One is a terrace where the annual jobs have stacked up behind a busy year, with quarry tiles under the hall floor covering and a kitchen in a rear extension. The other is a flat in a converted lace building, where the ceiling is four metres up, the windows are the size of doors, and the walls are exposed brick and cast iron rather than plaster. The second takes longer than its floor area suggests and needs the products agreed before we begin, because a good deal of what reads as dirt in a mill conversion is the original fabric and is meant to look the way it does.

New Basford sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly Victorian terraces and former lace-industry buildings, with pockets of newer flats around the tram line, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on New Basford deep cleaning jobs

Exposed brickwork in the mill flats is the thing to be careful with. The lime mortar between the bricks is soft and sheds continuously, which is why there is always a fine gritty dust on the sills and radiator tops below a brick wall, however recently anyone cleaned there. It gets brushed and vacuumed with a soft attachment and never washed, because water drives that dust into the face of the brick and leaves a tide line nothing removes. Bare cast iron columns are the same: a dry dust and a light oil rather than a wet cloth.

How a New Basford deep cleaning job actually runs

On a terrace the deep clean is really a job about one narrow two storey box on the back of the house. The kitchen sits at the bottom of the rear addition and the bathroom directly above it. Both are the smallest rooms in the property, both have the worst ventilation in it, and between them they hold nearly every annual task on the list. So the order is fixed rather than preferred. Descaler goes onto the shower head, the screen and the taps in the first ten minutes and is left to work while the oven comes apart, because contact time does that job and scrubbing does not. Racks and the grill pan soak outside in the yard on a sheet where there is one, and on a tray in the kitchen where there is not, which is the position in most of the converted mill flats. High level work runs from the top landing down so nothing lands on a room already finished, and floors come last everywhere. A whole terrace of this size is a long day, and we would rather say that at the quote than at four in the afternoon.

Who books it here

Our own postcode, so it is the shortest journey we make and usually the easiest slot to fill at short notice.

We run New Basford on the same round as Hyson Green, Sherwood and Bulwell.

What we check on every New Basford job

The checkable list in a house like this is short and specific. Oven door glass comes apart where the panels are removable, because the film sits on the inside faces and nothing done to the outside touches it. The filter over the hob is lifted out and degreased or replaced, and in a rear addition it usually vents through the wall rather than recirculating, so the duct mouth gets looked at too. The washing machine drawer housing and the fold of the door seal. The thermostatic bar valve on the shower, where scale builds inside the handle rather than on it. Grout in the bathroom above, with mouldy sealant identified rather than bleached, since bleach whitens growth in silicone for a fortnight and changes nothing. The airing cupboard slats and the top of the boiler cupboard, both of which carry dust nobody has reached.

What the deep cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Dishwasher filter and spray arms
  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Oven interior, racks, side runners, door glass and grill pan
  • Everywhere else: High level dust: light fittings, door tops, picture rails, coving
  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Sink, taps, plughole and overflow descaled

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What deep cleaning costs in New Basford

A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

PropertyTypical one-off
Studio£110 to £180
1 bedroom£135 to £220
2 bedrooms£165 to £280
3 bedrooms£220 to £350
4 bedrooms£300 to £460

Our cost research puts a one-off deep clean of a two to three bedroom home at £165 to £350, which is the anchor the rest of this table is built around.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Single oven deep clean£45 to £80
Double oven£70 to £110
Range cooker£80 to £130

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Can you clean the exposed brick wall in my flat?

We can dust and vacuum it, and that is the correct treatment. Washing brick and lime mortar pushes loose material into the surface and leaves staining that no second attempt improves. Expect a small amount of mortar dust to keep appearing on the sill beneath it, which is the wall behaving normally rather than a clean that has failed to hold.

Should the chimney be swept before or after the deep clean?

Before, always, and leave a day between the two. Sweeping puts fine soot into the room even with a sheet up, and it settles on everything at picture rail height and above. Booking the clean first means paying for those surfaces twice. Tell us if it has just been swept, because the residue is greasy and needs a different approach from ordinary dust.

Our kitchen and bathroom are both tiny. Does that make a deep clean quicker?

No, and often the opposite. Time in a deep clean follows fittings rather than floor area, and a small kitchen has the same oven, hob, extractor, sink and cupboard interiors as a large one, packed tighter and harder to work around. A compact bathroom holds the same taps, screen, grout and sealant. What the size really changes is that only one person can work in there at once, so it cannot be sped up by sending two.

Do you need the back yard to do the oven?

It helps, and it is not essential. Racks, the grill pan and the side runners soak in a tray, and doing that outside keeps the smell and the mess out of a kitchen you are still living in. Where there is no outside space at all, which is the case in the mill conversions, the tray sits on a protected worktop and we work around it. Either way the cavity itself is done by hand inside the oven.

Do you cover the whole of New Basford?

Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does deep cleaning cost in New Basford?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start deep cleaning in New Basford?

Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Straightforward, and we group New Basford with Hyson Green, Sherwood and Bulwell on the rota.
