Deep Cleaning for Arnold homes

Booked in spring and again before Christmas, usually starting with an oven that has waited a year. An Arnold deep clean is a straightforward whole-house reset rather than a specialist job.

Deep cleans in Arnold cluster twice a year, in spring and in the run up to Christmas, and the December ones fill first by a distance. The stock rewards a proper reset, and the kitchens are the give away. Postwar wall units stop short of the ceiling, and the ledge above them collects a film of cooking grease and dust that turns into a sticky brown layer nobody sees until they stand on a chair. Below, the plinths hide a gap under the base units holding the same crumbs since the kitchen went in. Add a hard water area, an oven that has waited a year and an extractor filter still wearing its original coat of grease, and the day is accounted for before we reach the bathroom.

Arnold sits in NG5, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly postwar semis and estates around the town centre, with older cottages near Front Street and newer developments on the edges, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Arnold deep cleaning jobs

The airing cupboard is worth naming in these houses. A good number still have a hot water cylinder on a slatted shelf, and the slats hold fluff, dust and the odd thing that fell through years ago. It is warm, and it is where clean linen lives, so it is a better use of an hour than most jobs people ask for by name. We empty it, vacuum the slats and the floor, wipe the shelves and put it back. Where the cylinder has been swapped for a combi the cupboard is usually deeper and drier and takes half the time.

How a Arnold deep cleaning job actually runs

A full deep clean on a three bedroom semi here runs as a day with two cleaners, and the order is set by what needs soaking time rather than by which room looks worst. The oven comes apart inside the first twenty minutes: racks, side runners, the fan cover and the inner door glass where the hinges allow it, all into a soak tray so the chemistry works while the rest of the kitchen is being stripped out. Filters come out in the same movement and go into the same tray. From there the house is worked top down and back to front, finishing at whichever door we intend to leave through. December bookings spend most of the afternoon under artificial light, which flatters glass and hides film, so mirrors and window interiors are done while daylight is still doing the inspecting for us. We need heating on so a bathroom dries between passes, and we need to know beforehand whether the loft hatch is being opened, because that decides the dust plan for every room underneath it and changes the order the landing is done in.

Who books it here

Mostly straightforward family homes on a weekly or fortnightly rota. Good parking, which sounds trivial and is one of the reasons slots here are easy to keep to time.

We run Arnold on the same round as Sherwood, Carlton and Hucknall.

What we check on every Arnold job

The checkable items on this stock: the grease trap and the aluminium mesh in the cooker hood, both washed out rather than wiped over; the ducting flap behind the hood, which sticks shut with old grease and stops the extractor moving anything at all; the rubber fold inside the washing machine door and the pump filter behind the kick plate; the dishwasher spray arm jets, cleared individually; the sink overflow and the plughole basket; radiator fins with a long brush and a crevice tool rather than a duster across the top; the trickle vents in the window heads, which are always full and never opened; the cistern lid and the flush button surround; the shower head taken off and soaked rather than sprayed in place. Anything that will not come clean is photographed and named as maintenance rather than left ambiguous for you to discover later.

What the deep cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Washing machine drawer, door seal and filter
  • Everywhere else: Skirting boards by hand throughout
  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Fridge and freezer emptied, defrosted and washed including the seals
  • Everywhere else: High level dust: light fittings, door tops, picture rails, coving

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Arnold property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 8.

What deep cleaning costs in Arnold

A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

PropertyTypical one-off
Studio£110 to £180
1 bedroom£135 to £220
2 bedrooms£165 to £280
3 bedrooms£220 to £350
4 bedrooms£300 to £460

Our cost research puts a one-off deep clean of a two to three bedroom home at £165 to £350, which is the anchor the rest of this table is built around.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Single oven deep clean£45 to £80
Double oven£70 to £110
Range cooker£80 to £130

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

How far ahead should we book the pre Christmas clean?

Four to six weeks for the second half of December, and earlier if you want a particular day. Everyone in Arnold wants the same fortnight, and a deep clean is a full day rather than a two hour slot, so there are only so many to give. Spring is easier to book and the low light is better for spotting what needs doing.

Is the gap above the kitchen units included?

Yes, and it is one reason a deep clean takes the time it does. That ledge carries a grease and dust mixture that needs a degreaser and dwell time rather than a wipe. If the tops are open with a decorative rail, mention it, because anything stored up there has to come down and go back, and we would rather plan that than improvise it.

Should the loft hatch be opened as part of the day?

Only if you ask, and it is worth deciding beforehand. Opening a hatch drops fibre and grit onto the landing, so it goes near the front of the running order and the landing is finished afterwards, never before. We do not clean loft spaces, insulation or anything stored up there. What we do is the hatch itself, the frame, the ladder if one is fitted, and the ceiling and light fitting around it while the steps are already out.

The kitchen has been in since the house was built. Will a deep clean make it look new?

No, and it is fairer to say so now. Laminate worktops that have lost their surface, chrome that has pitted, hinges that have rusted and sealant that has stained through will all come out clean and still look tired, because that is wear rather than soil. What changes dramatically is everything with a film on it: unit doors, the plinths, the ledge above the wall units, the extractor and the oven. Those are usually what people were actually reacting to.

Do you cover the whole of Arnold?

Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does deep cleaning cost in Arnold?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start deep cleaning in Arnold?

Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Good, and we group Arnold with Sherwood, Carlton and Hucknall on the rota.
