Deep Cleaning for Top Valley homes
Original 1970s fittings are what slow a deep clean here: acrylic baths that abrasives have already dulled, sliding door tracks packed with years of debris, and textured ceilings that get a soft head and a damp sponge and nothing rougher.
A deep clean here is a job about the original fabric of the house rather than about mess. These were finished in the middle of the 1970s and a good deal of what went in then is still in: textured ceilings and coving, a coloured bathroom suite, an acrylic bath, aluminium sliding doors onto the garden, an airing cupboard built round a cylinder. None of that responds to speed and force. The acrylic has had cream cleaner on it for decades and will not come back with more of the same, the ceilings must not be abraded at all, and the patio track has to be emptied dry before anything wet touches it. So the day gets planned around what the surfaces will take, and the kitchen is only one part of it.
Top Valley sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly 1970s estate housing put up in one programme, semis and short terraces set in culs-de-sac and pedestrian greens off a handful of distributor roads, with rear parking courts and scattered later infill, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Top Valley deep cleaning jobs
The sliding patio door is the item that surprises people. The bottom track sits at floor level, it is open along its whole length, and it has been collecting whatever comes off the garden since the door was fitted. By now it is a compacted band that a vacuum nozzle rides straight over. It gets loosened dry with a stiff brush, lifted with a crevice tool, and then the runners and the drain slots at each end get cleared, because those are what let water out of the frame. Wet it first and the whole lot turns to a paste that goes deeper in and sets.
How a Top Valley deep cleaning job actually runs
A deep clean is a whole day in a house somebody still lives in, and the practical questions turn out to be about services and space rather than about standards. Power comes first. Rooms of this vintage were wired with few sockets and they sit low behind furniture, so a machine working on the landing runs off an extension from a bedroom, and the plan for the day has to allow for that. Hot water comes second. Where a cylinder is still the source there is a finite amount of it, and a bathroom tackled late in the afternoon after a household has showered is a slower job than the same bathroom tackled first thing. Ventilation is third, and here the position of the estate helps. High open ground means there is nearly always air moving, so a window opened at each end of the house clears an oven or bathroom job faster than it would in a sheltered street lower down. The one thing we ask for is somewhere to put things. A cleared floor in one room takes the contents of the cupboards while those cupboards are being done, and without it the day gets longer.
Who books it here
Houses were laid out to keep cars away from front doors, so the road you drive down often faces back gardens and the address you want is along a footpath. Everything that comes into a job here, kit, machines, waste, gets carried further than it looks on a map.
We run Top Valley on the same round as Bestwood, Rise Park and Bulwell.
What we check on every Top Valley job
The gap under the kitchen units decides how long the kitchen takes, and it is worth looking before quoting the time. Where the original units are still in, they stand on legs behind a plinth that can be eased off, and what lies under there is dry, undisturbed and often decades deep. Where a replacement kitchen went in during an improvement programme, the plinth is usually sealed down to the floor and the only gap is a shallow slot at the toe, which collects far less but cannot be reached by anything except a thin tool and a torch. The second half of it is the joint where the flooring meets that plinth. On sheet vinyl, that seam is where mop water has run for years, and it holds a dark line which reads as damage right up until it comes out. Two different kitchens, two different jobs, and only one of them is quick.
What the deep cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Everywhere else: Window interiors, sills, frames and the tracks they run in
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Dishwasher filter and spray arms
- Everywhere else: Behind and underneath furniture
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Washing machine drawer, door seal and filter
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What deep cleaning costs in Top Valley
A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Single oven deep clean | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker | £80 to £130 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Can you clean the textured ceiling?
Carefully, and never with anything abrasive. Textured coatings from this period can contain asbestos fibre, and it is disturbing the surface that releases it rather than leaving it there. So it is a light dust with a soft head, or a barely damp sponge on a mark, and no scraping, no scouring pad and no steam. Where a ceiling is already flaking or has been knocked about, we stop and say so rather than working on it and making it worse.
The bath and basin are the original coloured suite and look permanently dull. Can that be fixed?
The film of soap and scale comes off. The dullness underneath usually does not. Acrylic scratches at a level you cannot see scratch by scratch, and years of cream cleaner leave a fine haze that holds dirt and reads as grubby however hard anybody works at it. We use a non abrasive product and a soft cloth, get it as bright as the surface will go, and then say plainly that what is left is wear rather than dirt.
Do we need to be out of the house while it is done?
No, and most people are not. The work moves room by room rather than opening up the whole house at once, so there is always somewhere to sit. What we do need is the room in hand kept clear while it is being worked on, and agreement on which rooms come first if you are working from home. Doors get closed behind us where a dust head has been used, and anything decanted out of a cupboard goes back before we leave that room.
Will you move the fridge, the cooker and the washing machine?
Where they can be moved safely, yes, and behind them is usually the best part of a deep clean. The limits are honest ones. A plumbed washing machine on old flooring can drag and tear vinyl, an integrated appliance is held by the units around it, and a gas cooker is only moved where there is a bayonet fitting and enough slack in the hose. Where something should not be pulled out, we clean what can be reached and say plainly what was left.
Do you cover the whole of Top Valley?
Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does deep cleaning cost in Top Valley?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start deep cleaning in Top Valley?
Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Parking is rarely the problem; reaching the door is, and we group Top Valley with Bestwood, Rise Park and Bulwell on the rota.
