Window Cleaning for Netherfield homes

Front sills sit close to the pavement, so road splash marks the glass from below as fast as weather marks it from above. Rear windows look over a yard wall and a shared entry, which is a pole job rather than a ladder one.

Two things dirty glass here faster than the rota expects. The front windows of a terrace sit a couple of metres from a road with no front garden between them, so every wet day throws road spray onto the lower panes and the sills, and that dries as a gritty film rather than a water mark. The second is the industrial and rail land to the south, which puts a fine dark dust on everything facing that way. Inside, the winter problem is condensation: water runs off the glass onto the reveal and the sill, and where it sits, the paint goes black in the corners. So interior work here is about the frame and the reveal at least as much as the pane.

Netherfield sits in NG4, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly railway terraces in long straight rows off Victoria Road, built for the Colwick yards, with postwar infill toward the flood plain and a high share of the stock privately let, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Netherfield window cleaning jobs

Sills are the other half of the job on these fronts. A terrace sill sits just above head height for someone on the pavement and gets the same road spray as the glass, so it carries a black line along the drip groove underneath that no one ever sees from inside. If that groove is full, water runs back along the underside of the sill and onto the brickwork instead of dropping clear, and the stain that follows gets treated as a damp problem when it is a maintenance one. We clean the sill and the groove with the pane rather than after it, and the rear elevation is done off a pole over the yard wall.

How a Netherfield window cleaning job actually runs

Rear access is what a round on these streets is built around. A mid terrace back is reached through a shared entry to a gated yard, and if that gate is bolted and nobody is in, the back of the house does not get done that visit, which is why we agree at the start whether a bolt gets left off on the day, a key safe is used, or the rear is booked separately when someone is home. Dogs in yards are a real consideration too, and it costs nothing to tell us. Out at the front, ladder work happens on a pavement with a road immediately behind it, so on the busier routes we work early and out of the flow of people heading to the station and the shops. The round runs street by street on a set day, which is the only way to make short jobs on adjacent houses viable, so a missed visit usually waits for the next pass rather than being fitted in mid week. Wet weather does not stop the work; wind does.

Who books it here

The local reference points are Victoria Road, the railway station, Victoria Retail Park and the Netherfield Lagoons, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

We run Netherfield on the same round as Carlton, Colwick and Gedling.

What we check on every Netherfield job

Two things on these windows look like dirt and are not. The first is a blown double glazed unit: the seal around the edge has failed, moisture is between the panes, and what you are looking at is a bloom or a tide mark on the inside face of the glass where nobody can reach. It usually shows on one pane of a pair, worst on the sunny side of the house, and it wipes away from neither side because it is sealed in. That is a glazier replacing the unit, not a cleaner. The second is the stick on bar. A lot of the replacement windows here have applied glazing bars mimicking small panes, and dirt gathers along the edge where the bar meets the glass and inside the corners where two bars cross. That comes out with a detail brush before the pane is squeegeed, and skipped, it is the first thing anyone notices from the pavement.

What the window cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Interior: Frame, sill and track dusted and vacuumed first, so you are not making mud
  • Interior: Glass washed, squeegeed in a single continuous pass and buffed dry
  • Interior: Edges detailed with a dry microfibre
  • Interior: Internal glazed doors, mirrors and glass partitions

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full window cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What window cleaning costs in Netherfield

Exterior glass on a rota. Interiors are charged separately and need access. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£15 to £28

Typical per visit in Netherfield. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per visit
Terraced house£12 to £20
Semi-detached£15 to £28
Detached£25 to £45
Interiors, added to a visitRoughly half again
Commercial frontageQuoted on frequency

The first clean of glass that has been left costs more than the ones after it, which is why a rota works out cheaper than an annual rescue.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Conservatory roofQuoted after seeing it
First clean of neglected glassHigher than the rota price

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

How often do the fronts actually need doing here?

More often than the backs, which is the unusual part. Road spray hits the front elevation every wet day and dries as a film, so a six week rota on the front and a longer one at the back is a sensible split rather than an upsell. If your front room looks onto the busier roads, expect the shorter end of that. We would rather set the interval honestly than have you cancel after three visits.

The inside of the windows goes black in the corners every winter. Is that cleanable?

The mould itself is, with a proper fungicidal treatment rather than a general spray, and it should not come straight back if the surface is sound. What decides it is whether water is still condensing there. Wiping the glass down on a cold morning, opening the window for a few minutes after showers and cooking, and keeping furniture off the outside walls all do more than we can. We will treat it and tell you where the water is coming from.

Our back gate is bolted from inside. Do we have to be home?

Only if you want the back doing on the same visit as the front. The simplest arrangement on these houses is to leave the yard gate unbolted on your round day, which we will tell you in advance, and we always leave it as we found it. Otherwise we do the front on the round and book the rear for a day when someone is in. Either way, tell us about a dog before the visit rather than after.

Two panes look permanently cloudy however often they are cleaned. Why?

Almost certainly failed units rather than anything on the surface. Look at the glass on a bright morning: if the haze is between the two panes, and the pane is cool with a mark that does not change when you wipe either side, the seal has gone and moisture is trapped inside. Cleaning will not touch it and neither will anything sold as a restorer. We will point out which panes are affected so you can price a replacement unit rather than a whole window.

Do you cover the whole of Netherfield?

Yes, all of NG4 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does window cleaning cost in Netherfield?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of windows, how many storeys, and whether interiors are included with the exterior rota. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start window cleaning in Netherfield?

Within a fortnight to join the rota, and the first clean of neglected glass takes longer than the ones after it. On-street only across the terraced streets, with cars both sides and not much room to pass, and we group Netherfield with Carlton, Colwick and Gedling on the rota.
