Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Netherfield homes
Ground floors here are cold and often solid, so a carpet gives its water back slowly. We run low moisture and get air across it, because a slow dry is how a room ends up smelling worse than it started.
Drying is the whole question here, and it is a genuine local difference rather than a technicality. A lot of these ground floors are solid, either original quarry tile screeded over or a concrete slab put in when the timber went, and a solid floor on damp ground stays cold all year. Cold slab plus carpet plus water put into the pile is how a front room ends up smelling sour three days after it was cleaned, and that smell is bacterial rather than anything left in the fibre. So the method changes: less water in, more of it pulled straight back out, and air moving across the floor before we leave. Upholstery in a small front room has the same problem for the same reason.
Netherfield sits in NG4, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly railway terraces in long straight rows off Victoria Road, built for the Colwick yards, with postwar infill toward the flood plain and a high share of the stock privately let, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Netherfield carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
Rental carpet is the other thing that shapes this work. A good deal of the let stock has a cheap polypropylene twist fitted between tenancies, and polypropylene does not absorb water or stain, which sounds ideal and is not. It holds oil instead, so it goes flat and grey in the traffic route and no amount of shampoo brings the pile back up. What does help is a solvent based pre spray, agitation with a brush rather than a bonnet, and a rinse. It will look markedly better. It will not look new, and anyone telling a landlord otherwise about a floor that has already been walked flat is selling something.
How a Netherfield carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
A mid terrace has no side access, so everything about this job runs through the front door. The machine stays in the van, the hoses come in off the pavement, and that puts a real limit on where the van has to stand: within hose reach of the front room, and closer still if we are working on the landing or a back bedroom. On a street that fills up by late afternoon that is an argument for a morning slot. Doors have to stay open on the hose run, which in winter means the house cools while we work, so the heating goes back on the moment we are finished rather than after we have gone. Inside the room, the furniture is the other constraint. A front room this size has nowhere to put a three piece suite while the floor underneath it is cleaned, so we work in halves, move across, and lift the feet onto blocks afterwards so nothing wet is sitting under a wooden leg. Small items are better cleared by you before we arrive.
Who books it here
Regular fortnightly work in the owner-occupied rows, tenancy turnarounds on the rented ones, and more small commercial jobs than a residential area usually produces. Shop units and first floor offices along the main street, plus premises on the retail park, where trading hours decide the schedule rather than we do.
We run Netherfield on the same round as Carlton, Colwick and Gedling.
What we check on every Netherfield job
The black lines are the detail worth explaining. On these floors you often see a dark grey band along the skirting, under the internal doors and around the edge of a hearth, sharp edged and darker than the traffic route, and people assume it is dirt walked in and never lifted. It is not. Air is being drawn through the carpet and the underlay at those points, from a suspended timber floor or a gap around a joist, and the pile is filtering it, so the soiling is fine airborne soot rather than grit. It is why the line runs where there is no traffic at all. It responds to a pre spray and a hot rinse far better than to repeated vacuuming, though it takes a second pass on the worst stretch, and it will return unless the draught path itself is sealed, which is a floor job rather than a cleaning one.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Upholstery: Care label checked for the W, S, WS or X code before anything is applied
- Carpets: Pile groomed, protective tabs under furniture legs
- Carpets: Neutralising rinse, so no sticky detergent residue is left to attract soil
- Carpets: Hot water extraction at pressure
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Netherfield
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£35 to £60
Typical one-off in Netherfield. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

| Single room | £35 to £60 |
| Hallway, stairs and landing | £45 to £85 |

| 3 bed house, throughout | £140 to £260 |
| 4 bed house, throughout | £200 to £350 |
Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Upholstery, 3 seat sofa | £45 to £90 |
| Mattress clean | £30 to £60 |
| Pet urine treatment, per spot | £15 to £40 |
| Rug, per square metre | £8 to £20 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

How long will the carpet take to dry in a house like this?
Longer than the same carpet in a modern house, which is why we plan for it rather than hope. On a solid ground floor expect most of a day with the heating on and a window open, and we leave air moving across the pile before we go. If the room is unheated and shut up, it can still be damp the following morning, and a carpet that stays damp is where the smell comes from.
Is it worth cleaning a carpet that already looks worn?
Sometimes, and it depends what worn means. If the pile is dirty, extraction transforms it. If the pile has been abraded by grit until the fibre ends are split, the carpet is physically damaged and cleaning it makes it a clean damaged carpet. We look before we start and say which of the two you have, because there is no point booking us to confirm what a new floor covering would fix.
Do we need to move the furniture before you arrive?
Move the small things and leave the heavy ones to us. Lamps, side tables, toys, the contents of the bottom of the wardrobe and anything breakable should be out of the room, because that is time you can save yourself. Sofas and beds we will shift ourselves in halves, though on a front room this size there is a limit to how far anything travels, and we will tell you honestly if a piece has to stay where it is.
Can the sofa be done in the same visit as the carpet?
Usually yes, and the order matters: upholstery first, floor afterwards, so nothing drips onto a pile we have just finished. What changes the plan is the fabric. A cover with a dry clean only code cannot take a wet extraction, feather cushions need longer to dry than foam, and in a small room with a solid floor underfoot drying is already the slow part. We check the label under the cushion before anything is sprayed.
Do you cover the whole of Netherfield?
Yes, all of NG4 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Netherfield?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Netherfield?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. On-street only across the terraced streets, with cars both sides and not much room to pass, and we group Netherfield with Carlton, Colwick and Gedling on the rota.
