Domestic Cleaning for Netherfield homes

Two up two down terraces with a kitchen in the back outrigger and a bathroom over it. Small houses, but every room is tight and the stairs are steep, so the hours do not fall as far as the floor area suggests.

A standard house on these streets is two rooms down, two up, a kitchen in the back outrigger and a bathroom built over it or squeezed into the third bedroom. That shape decides the visit. There is no hall to speak of, so the front room takes everything that comes off the pavement, and the stairs rise straight out of it with a turn at the top that a full size vacuum will not follow. The kitchen is narrow enough that the cooker, the sink and the fridge are all within a stride of each other, which sounds efficient and means splashes reach all three. Households here are often on shifts, so most of our regular visits happen with nobody in and a key safe by the door.

Netherfield sits in NG4, under Gedling Borough Council. Regular fortnightly work in the owner-occupied rows, tenancy turnarounds on the rented ones, and more small commercial jobs than a residential area usually produces. Shop units and first floor offices along the main street, plus premises on the retail park, where trading hours decide the schedule rather than we do.

What we run into on Netherfield domestic cleaning jobs

The turn at the top of the stairs is the part that takes the time. It is usually a winder, three tapered treads pivoting round a newel post, and the narrow ends of those treads collect what everything else on the flight sheds. A hose and a small tool get in there; a floor head does not. The other recurring one is the back door, which opens straight off the kitchen onto a brick yard with no lobby and usually no mat, so grit arrives on the hardest working floor in the house every time someone puts a bin out. That gets a stiff broom before the mop rather than a mop pushing it about.

How a Netherfield domestic cleaning job actually runs

Access to these houses is decided at the back, not the front. Most of the terraces have a shared entry or a jitty running through to a gated yard, and the gate is bolted from the inside, so a cleaner arriving at an empty house comes in at the front door and works outward from there. The front door opens onto the pavement with no hall behind it, which means our kit sits in the room being cleaned rather than in a porch, and it is why we work upstairs first and bring everything down at the end instead of carrying it up twice. Sockets set the rest of the routine. An unmodernised house here often has one double socket to a room, usually behind the television or the kettle, so the vacuum is unplugged and replugged on every floor and the lead runs across doorways that have to stay open. Regular visits land in the morning for the same reason most things here do: the street empties, the light is on the front of the house, and nobody is stepping over a cable.

Who books it here

On the practical side: On-street only across the terraced streets, with cars both sides and not much room to pass. The back entries are shared and usually gated, so equipment comes in through the front door. Commercial jobs are easier, because the retail park has its own parking.

We run Netherfield on the same round as Carlton, Colwick and Gedling.

What we check on every Netherfield job

Washing is the part people do not expect on the list. There is no room for a tumble dryer in a kitchen this narrow and no utility room to put one in, so laundry dries indoors on an airer in the front room or over the radiators for most of the year. That puts fibre into the air, and it settles on the flat surfaces nobody looks at straight on: the top edge of the doors, the picture rail where the house still has one, the television screen and the mirror over the fireplace, where it shows as a soft grey bloom rather than as dust. The room is also damp while the airer is up, so anything wiped at that point dries slowly and streaks. We leave the glass and the screens until the airer is down and the window has been open a while, and the door tops come off with a damp cloth rather than a duster, which only moves the fibre elsewhere.

What the domestic cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Kitchen: Worktops wiped and disinfected
  • Bathrooms: Basin, taps and surround
  • Bedrooms and living areas: Vacuuming throughout
  • Kitchen: Bin emptied and relined

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full domestic cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What domestic cleaning costs in Netherfield

Regular domestic cleaning, per visit, at a typical company rate. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£50 to £70

Typical per visit in Netherfield. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per visit
1 bed flat£40 to £50
2 bed£50 to £70
3 bed£60 to £80
4 bed£80 to £100
5 bed£100 to £120

A fortnightly clean of a two bedroom home works out around £1,560 to £1,820 a year. Weekly is roughly double.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Regular domestic, per hour£17 to £25
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Domestic Cleaningin Netherfield

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Is a two bedroom terrace quicker than a two bedroom flat?

Usually a little, but less than the floor plan suggests. A flat is one level, so a cleaner works in a loop; a terrace means carrying everything up and down a narrow staircase, and the stairs themselves are a job. The bathroom over the back kitchen is also colder and damper than a flat bathroom, so it needs more attention each visit rather than less.

We work shifts. Can the visit move week to week?

It can, though a fixed day is what keeps the same cleaner on your house. If your pattern rotates, tell us the shape of it when you book and we will set the rota against it rather than rearranging every fortnight. A key safe removes the problem entirely, and on a street with no drives it also means nobody is waiting outside while you find somewhere to park.

Do you use our vacuum, and where do you fill and empty water?

We bring our own machines and cloths, so nothing depends on what is in your cupboard. Water comes from the kitchen tap and goes out down the kitchen sink or the outside gully, and we ask before using either so nobody finds a bucket in the sink they wanted. If your outside tap has been isolated for the winter, which is usual on these yards, say so when you book and we will plan around the kitchen supply instead.

Can you bring the bins through and sort the yard while you are here?

We will bring a bin back through the entry if it lands on your cleaning day, and we sweep the back step and the strip of yard by the door because that is where the grit gets in from. Clearing a yard properly, moving pots, weeding or washing down brickwork is grounds work rather than cleaning, and it is honest to say so instead of doing half of it and calling the visit finished.

Do you cover the whole of Netherfield?

Yes, all of NG4 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does domestic cleaning cost in Netherfield?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the bathroom count more than the bedroom count, how often we come, and whether there are pets. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start domestic cleaning in Netherfield?

Usually within a week for a regular rota, and we will tell you the day rather than a window. On-street only across the terraced streets, with cars both sides and not much room to pass, and we group Netherfield with Carlton, Colwick and Gedling on the rota.
