Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Gedling homes
Reclaimed colliery ground produces a pale, abrasive clay, and the park paths deliver it onto hall carpet all winter. It has to dry and be vacuumed out before anything wet touches it, or extraction simply spreads it.
Carpet work gets booked more here than in most of our areas, and the country park is why. Those paths run over ground that was a colliery spoil tip, so the material underfoot is a fine mineral clay and shale rather than the leaf mould you pick up walking almost anywhere else nearby. It behaves differently in a pile. It is pale, so it hides on a light carpet until the whole room has gone flat and grey at once, and it is angular, so it cuts fibre rather than merely staining it. In a household that walks the park daily, the hall, the stairs and whichever room everyone sits in take a year of wear in a season.
Gedling sits in NG4, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly interwar and postwar semis on the streets off Arnold Lane and Shelford Road, a small older core around the church, and newer estate housing built on the reclaimed colliery ground, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Gedling carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
Wet clay is the mistake almost everybody makes. The instinct is to get a cloth onto a muddy print while it is still soft, and that pushes the fine fraction down into the base of the tuft and spreads the edge outward, leaving a larger, fainter mark that has now bonded properly. Left alone it dries to a crust, and dry it lifts with a vacuum in slow overlapping passes. What survives that is what extraction is for. We would rather arrive at a carpet nobody has attacked with a damp cloth, and we say so when a job falls in the middle of a wet week.
How a Gedling carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
Carpet work is planned around the van as much as the room. The machine runs from hoses, and those hoses have to reach from wherever the van can legally stand to the furthest room being cleaned, which on a house set back behind a long front garden or up a shared drive uses most of the reel. On the terraced rows the van goes on the street with the front door held ajar and the hose through it, so it suits a dry day and a settled dog. Inside, the staircase with a turn in it is the awkward part of these houses, because the outer edge of each winder takes the wear and is the hardest place to work a hand tool square. We move what two people can carry and clean around the rest rather than dismantling a room. Afterwards the floor wants air, so windows open and heating on low beats a house shut up all day, and we tell you how long to stay off it before we go.
Who books it here
Regular fortnightly cleaning in family houses is the bulk of it, with deep cleans booked in spring and carpet work more often than average. The country park is the reason for the last one, because a household walking those paths daily puts more grit and clay through the hall in a month than a city street manages in six.
We run Gedling on the same round as Carlton, Netherfield and Mapperley.
What we check on every Gedling job
The mark people take for a shadow is real and it has a cause. Look at the carpet hard against the skirting in a room with a suspended timber floor, or along the line a door sits closed on, and there is a grey band about a finger wide with a sharp edge to it. That is filtration soiling. Air is being pulled through the pile because it has nowhere else to go, and the carpet is working as the filter. What you can see is fine soot and cooking residue bonded to the tips of the fibre, which is why it survives vacuuming and is still there in a spotless house. It needs a solvent and patience rather than more water, and sealing the gap under the skirting is what stops it returning. The same line is worth checking under a bedroom door, where the gap is usually wider and the band correspondingly darker.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Carpets: Pile groomed, protective tabs under furniture legs
- Carpets: Agitation with a brush or rotary tool
- Carpets: Fibre identified and a colourfast test in an inconspicuous area
- Also covered: Rugs, on site or collected
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Gedling
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£35 to £60
Typical one-off in Gedling. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

| 4 bed house, throughout | £200 to £350 |
Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.

| Mattress clean | £30 to £60 |
| Pet urine treatment, per spot | £15 to £40 |
| Rug, per square metre | £8 to £20 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The dog comes back from the park filthy. Should we clean the carpet straight away?
No. Keep everyone off it, let it dry right through, then vacuum in slow overlapping passes and do it again the following day, because clay keeps releasing as the pile gets worked. Wet cleaning at that stage drives the fine material down where a domestic vacuum cannot reach. Once it is dry and vacuumed, extraction lifts what is genuinely bonded to the fibre, and that is the point at which we want to be there.
Will having the carpet cleaned make it dirty again faster?
It will if it is done with too much detergent and never rinsed, because dried residue is tacky and holds onto the next lot of soil. That is where the belief comes from and it is a fair description of a poor job. We rinse back to a neutral finish and get air moving so it dries quickly, and a carpet treated that way soils no faster afterwards than it did before. Grooming the pile as it dries also helps it wear evenly.
Do we have to move all the furniture out first?
No. Clear the small things, lamps, baskets, anything on the floor, and we handle the rest. Sofas and beds get moved where two people can shift them safely and cleaned under, and where a wardrobe is full or a unit is fixed to the wall we clean up to it and say so rather than risk the floor or your furniture. Anything that stays put goes back onto protectors so damp pile does not mark a wooden leg.
How long before we can use the room normally?
Walkable in a few hours in socks, back to full use by the next day in most rooms, longer if the weather is damp and the house is shut up. Air movement matters more than heat, so open a window and leave interior doors ajar. Keep shoes off until it is properly dry, because a damp pile picks up soil from a sole far more readily than a dry one and undoes part of what you have just paid for.
Do you cover the whole of Gedling?
Yes, all of NG4 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Gedling?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Gedling?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Mostly straightforward, because the older semis have a drive or a verge to pull onto, and we group Gedling with Carlton, Netherfield and Mapperley on the rota.
