Window Cleaning for Wilford homes
Small panes and deep reveals in the village, big picture windows facing the water behind. Both need the frames, sills and tracks doing as well as the glass, and here the tracks silt up rather than simply gathering dust.
Wilford asks for window cleaning on a shorter rota than the rest of our patch, and the reasons are all environmental. Lime trees along the older roads produce honeydew through high summer, which is aphid residue rather than sap, and it dries on glass into a tacky film that a dry cloth spreads into streaks. Damp air off the water keeps the shaded elevations from ever drying properly, so algae takes hold in the frame rebates and on the render before it appears on the pane. In warm still weather, insects off the river settle on the glass in numbers that a light rain does not shift. Between them, a rota that would be generous three miles uphill leaves the glass looking neglected here.
Wilford sits in NG11, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly a conservation core of rendered and red brick cottages round the church, then interwar and postwar semis on the roads behind, with later closes and infill running toward Compton Acres, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Wilford window cleaning jobs
The tracks are the physical difference, and they are worth describing. On the exposed elevations the bottom track of a sliding door or a casement collects a fine grey deposit that is silt rather than dust, and once it is wet it becomes a paste that packs into the corners and holds moisture against the seal. We vacuum the track dry first with a crevice tool, then work wet, which is the opposite order to what most people do at home and the reason a home clean leaves a grey line behind. On the older windows the same applies to the putty line, where standing grit holds water against the timber.
How a Wilford window cleaning job actually runs
Most of this work happens whether you are in or out, and the parts that do need you are worth settling at the start. Rear access is the main one. Where the only route to the back of a house is through it, the visit becomes an appointment rather than part of a round, and that is a different arrangement to agree before the first clean. Dogs loose in a garden are the second: tell us, and we will do the front and come back rather than open a gate on a guess. We clean right through the winter and stop only for hard frost, because water freezing on glass leaves a worse result than waiting a week does, so we would sooner move a date than turn up and make the job look badly done. Conservatory roofs, porch glass and the inside of a bay are separate items rather than assumed extras, so say at the start what you want included. If you would like a message the day before each visit, ask and we will send one.
Who books it here
The local reference points are St Wilfrid's church, the green, Main Road, the Ferry Inn and the Trent path, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.
We run Wilford on the same round as The Meadows, Clifton and West Bridgford.
What we check on every Wilford job
Two things are worth saying plainly about older glass and newer frames. The weep holes along the bottom of a uPVC frame, the small slots on the outer face, are drainage, and once moss or silt blocks them the water getting into the rebate has nowhere to go and sits against the seal. We clear them as part of the job, which is why a sill below sometimes runs dirty for a minute after we have finished. The other is a misted unit. When a sealed double glazed pane fails, moisture gets between the two sheets and the haze sits on an internal surface nobody can reach. No amount of cleaning touches it and no product exists that will. We point those out and say which are a glazier's job, because the alternative is paying to have a window cleaned that looks identical afterwards.
What the window cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Also: Conservatory roofs and glazing
- Also: Hard water spotting treated as limescale rather than scrubbed
- Also: Green algae on north-facing frames
- Also: Commercial frontages on a weekly or fortnightly rota
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full window cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Wilford property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What window cleaning costs in Wilford
Exterior glass on a rota. Interiors are charged separately and need access. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£15 to £28
Typical per visit in Wilford. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per visit |
|---|---|
| Terraced house | £12 to £20 |
| Semi-detached | £15 to £28 |
| Detached | £25 to £45 |
| Interiors, added to a visit | Roughly half again |
| Commercial frontage | Quoted on frequency |
The first clean of glass that has been left costs more than the ones after it, which is why a rota works out cheaper than an annual rescue.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Conservatory roof | Quoted after seeing it |
| First clean of neglected glass | Higher than the rota price |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
How often do the outside windows actually need doing here?
Shorter intervals than the standard advice, and it varies by elevation rather than by house. The side facing open ground and water needs it most often, and the sheltered side can go noticeably longer. Through July and August, when the limes are dropping honeydew, the front glass on the older roads is the limiting factor. We would rather set the rota after seeing which way the property faces than quote a frequency down the phone.
Can you reach the windows at the back? The garden runs down to the grass.
Usually yes, with a water-fed pole worked from the ground, which is why soft or uneven ground matters more to us than height does. What we need to know beforehand is whether there is a firm footing to stand on, whether the gate is wide enough for the trolley, and whether anything is fenced off. Where the ground is genuinely too soft we say so rather than churning up a lawn to save a phone call.
Do we need to be home when you come?
Only for the back, and only where there is no side gate. Front elevations, and any rear we can reach through a gate or a shared path, get done with nobody in. Leave the gate unbolted on the day if you can, or give us a code, and tell us about any route we should not use. If you would rather be there, we will book a slot instead of fitting you into the round, though that does mean less flexibility when weather moves everything.
One pane still looks foggy after cleaning. What is that?
Almost certainly a failed sealed unit. Double glazing has two sheets of glass with a sealed cavity between them, and when the seal goes, moist air gets in and condenses inside. The haze sits on a surface no cloth can reach, so cleaning makes no difference whatever. It often looks worst in direct sun and can clear on a cold morning, which is why people take it for dirt. Replacing the unit is a glazier's job rather than a cleaning one.
Do you cover the whole of Wilford?
Yes, all of NG11 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does window cleaning cost in Wilford?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of windows, how many storeys, and whether interiors are included with the exterior rota. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start window cleaning in Wilford?
Within a fortnight to join the rota, and the first clean of neglected glass takes longer than the ones after it. Main Road narrows through the village and the roadside spaces by the green fill early, so we work from the side streets and carry in, and we group Wilford with The Meadows, Clifton and West Bridgford on the rota.
