Deep Cleaning for Wilford homes
Damp off the river puts the annual jobs somewhere unusual: window reveals, frame rebates, the backs of wardrobes against an outside wall, and sealant lines that look mouldy but are only stained. We say which is which before scrubbing.
An annual reset here spends more of its time on the building fabric than in most places, because low ground by a river changes where dirt settles. The jobs that eat the hours are window reveals and frame rebates, the silicone lines in bathrooms, the backs of wardrobes standing against an external wall, and the cold corner of any room on the north side. All of them look like mould, and a good number of them are staining left behind after the mould was killed, which is worth separating before anyone starts scrubbing at something that will not move. The kitchen work is the same as anywhere: oven, extractor filter, the tops and insides of the units. The difference is what else is on the list beside it.
Wilford sits in NG11, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly a conservation core of rendered and red brick cottages round the church, then interwar and postwar semis on the roads behind, with later closes and infill running toward Compton Acres, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Wilford deep cleaning jobs
Wood burners and open fires are still in use in the older houses, and the ash they produce is much finer than ordinary house dust, so it does not stay in the room with the stove. It ends up on the top edge of picture frames, on the treads of the stairs facing the fire, and inside anything with a fabric shade. We vacuum with a HEPA filter rather than dusting it, because a dry cloth puts most of it back into the air to land again by morning. The hearth itself gets done last for the same reason.
How a Wilford deep cleaning job actually runs
A deep clean is a full day in the property rather than a visit, and here that day has to be planned around what the house can supply. Older properties in the village have one bathroom, a single hot water source and a socket layout that predates anything with a motor, so we agree in advance which room is out of use when, and whether the boiler will keep up with repeated refills. Room size is the other constraint. Furniture has to go somewhere while floors, skirting and the backs of units are reached, and a small front room with no hallway means it goes into the next room and then comes back, which is a sequencing problem more than a lifting one. We would rather work the ground floor and the first floor in a stated order, and tell you which rooms are unusable at which hour, than have the household moving around us while both of us lose time. Whether a carpet machine will pass through a narrow hall gets checked before the day, not on it.
Who books it here
Everything sits low against the river, so damp behaves differently. North facing render and window frames grow a green film, ground floors on the old lanes are cold underfoot in summer, and condensation on the reveals starts earlier in autumn than it does uphill.
We run Wilford on the same round as The Meadows, Clifton and West Bridgford.
What we check on every Wilford job
The same three things turn up in almost every deep clean, and none of them are visible from standing height. The gap between a freestanding cooker and the run of units collects a wick of fat and crumbs that has usually been there since the cooker was delivered, and it needs the appliance pulling out rather than a thin tool pushed down the side. The grease filter in the hood above it is generally saturated rather than dirty, which is why a kitchen smells of last week's cooking with the fan running. The coil and grille on the back of the fridge freezer carry a felt of dust that makes the motor run longer and warmer than it should. All three get skipped on a routine visit for good reason, and all three are the difference between a house that has been cleaned and one that has been reset.
What the deep cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Dishwasher filter and spray arms
- Everywhere else: Window interiors, sills, frames and the tracks they run in
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Sink, taps, plughole and overflow descaled
- Everywhere else: Radiators, including between the fins and behind
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What deep cleaning costs in Wilford
A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£165 to £280
Typical one-off in Wilford. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical one-off |
|---|---|
| Studio | £110 to £180 |
| 1 bedroom | £135 to £220 |
| 2 bedrooms | £165 to £280 |
| 3 bedrooms | £220 to £350 |
| 4 bedrooms | £300 to £460 |
Our cost research puts a one-off deep clean of a two to three bedroom home at £165 to £350, which is the anchor the rest of this table is built around.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Single oven deep clean | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker | £80 to £130 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The silicone round the bath is black. Will a deep clean fix it?
Sometimes, and we will tell you which case yours is within the first few minutes. If the black sits on the surface it comes off with a mould treatment given proper contact time. If it has grown into the silicone itself, nothing lifts it, and the only real fix is cutting the old bead out and replacing it. That is not cleaning work, so we will say so rather than charge you to scrub something that stays black.
When is the best time of year to book one in Wilford?
Late spring or early autumn, and there is a practical reason rather than a seasonal one. A deep clean means windows open for hours while floors and grout dry, and doing that in a damp river month simply moves moisture around the house instead of out of it. A dry week with a breeze gets the property back to you in a usable state the same evening rather than the next day.
Do we need to be out of the house for the day?
No, though the day goes better if you are out for part of it. Bathrooms and kitchens come out of use for stretches, floors want walking on as little as possible while they dry, and there is more equipment through the hall than on a normal visit. Most people go out for the middle of the day and come back for the last hour, which is also the sensible point to walk round with us and say what still needs attention.
Should we book this before or after we redecorate?
After, in nearly every case. Painting throws fine dust off sanded filler and leaves it on every horizontal surface for days, and a decorator working over freshly cleaned skirting undoes the part that took longest. The exception is heavy grease or nicotine staining, which has to be washed off before anything is painted or the new coat will not key. If that is your situation, tell us, and we treat the work as preparation rather than as a finish.
Do you cover the whole of Wilford?
Yes, all of NG11 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does deep cleaning cost in Wilford?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start deep cleaning in Wilford?
Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Main Road narrows through the village and the roadside spaces by the green fill early, so we work from the side streets and carry in, and we group Wilford with The Meadows, Clifton and West Bridgford on the rota.
