Deep Cleaning for Mapperley homes
Victorian villas toward Mapperley Top with original features and a lot of vertical distance between the top of a wardrobe and the floor. High level dusting is where the time goes and where the visible difference comes from.
Deep cleaning a Mapperley house is sequenced by level, top down, because anything disturbed on the upper floor lands on the flight below it. The stairwell is the part nobody mentions when describing the property, and in the older villas it is a tall void with a light fitting hanging in the middle of it that no step ladder reaches safely. Half landing bathrooms are the other recurring item. They are usually the smallest room in the house, often with a window that opens onto a wall or an extractor venting into a boxed void, so the sealant and the grout hold mould that a surface clean simply relocates. Both get allowed for at the quote rather than discovered on the day.
Mapperley sits in NG3, under Nottingham City Council and Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly Victorian villas on the hill, interwar semis toward Porchester, and a steady flow of converted flats, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Mapperley deep cleaning jobs
Mould in a half landing bathroom is generally in the silicone rather than on it. Once it has rooted through the bead, bleach lifts the colour for a fortnight and then it comes back looking the same. We will clean it and tell you honestly that the fix is cutting the bead out and replacing it, which is twenty minutes for whoever does your maintenance. The other thing we check on the hill is the cellar hatch. Cellars sit outside the scope of a domestic deep clean, and we would rather agree that before the visit than have it read afterwards as something we skipped.
How a Mapperley deep cleaning job actually runs
A deep clean here is a day planned around two things a single storey property never has to think about: where the water comes from and where the power comes from. We fill and empty at the highest basin that will take a bucket rather than walking back to the kitchen every time, and we run leads from a socket on the level being worked rather than trailing cable down an open flight, which is a trip hazard and the fastest way to pull a lamp off a table. The spaces that get missed in these houses are the ones nobody calls rooms. The cupboard under the stairs, which on a split level is often a full height walk in with the meter and the ironing board in it. The airing cupboard on the landing, where the slats hold years of dust that drops straight onto clean laundry. The store at the cellar head, which is a door on the ground floor with three steps behind it. We settle which of those are included before the day, because each one is real time on the clock.
Who books it here
Hilly, with a lot of houses on split levels and long flights of internal stairs. Stair carpets are their own job here and are priced separately for good reason.
We run Mapperley on the same round as Sherwood, Carlton and Sneinton.
What we check on every Mapperley job
Specific items we go after in this stock: the airing cupboard slats and shelf edges, and the top of the cylinder where dust bakes onto warm metal; the pipe boxing beside the flight and the dust ledge where the stair string meets the wall; the cast iron radiator in the hall, which needs a long thin brush between the columns and cannot be done with a cloth over the front; the catch, the sash lift and the reveal on the landing window, where old grease and grit have set solid; the loft hatch surround and the rebate it drops into, which sheds fibre every time anyone opens it; and the grout and sealant line in a bathroom that vents into a boxed void rather than to outside air. Where a fitting is genuinely out of safe reach we say so and leave it alone rather than doing it badly from somewhere we should not be standing.
What the deep cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Everywhere else: Window interiors, sills, frames and the tracks they run in
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Extractor hood and filter, degreased or replaced
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Sink, taps, plughole and overflow descaled
- Bathrooms: Extractor vent, cabinet interiors, mirrors and chrome
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What deep cleaning costs in Mapperley
A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
| Property | Typical one-off |
|---|---|
| Studio | £110 to £180 |
| 1 bedroom | £135 to £220 |
| 2 bedrooms | £165 to £280 |
| 3 bedrooms | £220 to £350 |
| 4 bedrooms | £300 to £460 |
Our cost research puts a one-off deep clean of a two to three bedroom home at £165 to £350, which is the anchor the rest of this table is built around.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Single oven deep clean | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker | £80 to £130 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Can you reach the light in the stairwell?
Only where a small step can stand safely on a level surface. Over an open flight there is nowhere to put one, and working at height above stairs is exactly the arrangement that causes serious falls. Where the fitting is out of reach we say so when quoting, so you can arrange a tower or a pole system instead of expecting it in the price.
Does a deep clean include the cellar?
No, not as standard. Cellars in the older Mapperley villas are usually unlit, unheated and full of storage, which makes them a clearance job rather than a cleaning one. If you want the cellar steps and the floor done, say so when you book and we will look at it and price it separately rather than quietly leaving it out.
Is the cupboard under the stairs included?
Yes if it is empty enough to clean, and that is a real caveat rather than a get out. On a split level it is often a walk in holding the meter, the fuse board, coats, shoes and a spare vacuum, and a deep clean cleans surfaces rather than carrying your belongings out to reach them. Clear the floor for us and we will do the floor, the shelving, the back of the door and the underside of the stair above it, which is where the cobwebs are.
How do you clean the walls in a tall stairwell?
Not by working off an open flight. We clean what can be reached from a level footing on a landing or a small step standing on something flat, which normally covers the lower half and the whole of the half landing wall. Anything above that gets flagged at the quote so you can decide whether a tower is worth hiring. Marks on stairwell plaster are also frequently abrasion from furniture rather than soil, and cleaning those makes the patch more obvious, not less.
Do you cover the whole of Mapperley?
Yes, all of NG3 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council and Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does deep cleaning cost in Mapperley?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start deep cleaning in Mapperley?
Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Steep streets and some properties well above road level, and we group Mapperley with Sherwood, Carlton and Sneinton on the rota.
