Deep Cleaning for Sneinton homes

Victorian terraces where the annual jobs and the original features arrive together: quarry tile, sash tracks, deep skirting and a small yard that counts as outside space in the inventory.

Two places soak up most of a deep clean in Sneinton, and neither is the kitchen. The first is the tiled hall, where a year of grit has ground into open grout and needs contact time with a floor product rather than a fast mop. The second is the windows. Single glazed sashes in solid brick walls run with condensation from October onward, and the water sits on the timber reveal and the cill until it grows black spotting along the paint line. Add the chimney breasts, most of which are blocked with a vent that has never been dusted, and the picture rails, and you have the shape of a Sneinton deep clean before we even open the oven.

Sneinton sits in NG2, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly dense Victorian terraces, a good number now flats, with the Sneinton Market studios and newer builds at the city end, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Sneinton deep cleaning jobs

Sash boxes are the part people forget. The gap between the meeting rails and the pocket at the bottom of the frame collects a fine grey silt of brick dust and old paint flakes, and it comes out on a brush and a crevice tool rather than a cloth. Where the sash still runs on cords, we clean around the pulley rather than into it, because working solvent into the cord shortens its life. On painted timber cills we test in a corner first, since a lot of these have distemper or lead-era layers under the top coat.

How a Sneinton deep cleaning job actually runs

A deep clean here runs as one long day rather than two short ones, because there is nowhere to stack furniture except the room you have just finished. We start at the top. A good number of these terraces have a room in the roof or a small back bedroom over the outrigger, reached by a second and steeper flight, and both hold heat and therefore dust. The landing carries the loft hatch and, where the house still has one, the cylinder cupboard with its slatted shelves, all of which comes out and goes back. In the kitchen the original pantry recess beside the chimney breast survives more often than people expect, usually with a stone or slate thrall that has never been lifted. Downstairs the front room is the only place a three seat sofa fits, so it stands flat against the wall and has to be walked out to reach behind it. Spring and early autumn are the sensible bookings, before the heating goes on or once it has gone off.

Who books it here

Terraces with original quarry-tiled hallways and small yards. Parking is on-street and tight, so we allow for it rather than eating into the cleaning time.

We run Sneinton on the same round as Nottingham City Centre, Carlton and West Bridgford.

What we check on every Sneinton job

Cast iron is the thing to get right in these houses. Original bedroom fireplaces and older hall radiators are cast iron, and an acidic limescale product left sitting on them flashes the surface orange, so they get a dry brush and a barely damp wipe and nothing stronger. Deep Victorian skirting has a moulded top bead that carries a rope of dust the full length of the wall, and that comes off with a brush before any cloth touches it. Brass rim locks, finger plates and escutcheons on original doors are usually lacquered or worn through, so we clean around them rather than polishing them back to bright. The cylinder cupboard slats, the loft hatch rebate and the pantry thrall get lifted and done underneath. Behind the cooker we check for the old range opening, which is often bricked up with a vent that has been painted over.

What the deep cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Everywhere else: Radiators, including between the fins and behind
  • Bathrooms: Toilet including hinges, base and behind the pan
  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Washing machine drawer, door seal and filter
  • Everywhere else: Carpet edges, which a normal vacuum pass misses

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What deep cleaning costs in Sneinton

A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

PropertyTypical one-off
Studio£110 to £180
1 bedroom£135 to £220
2 bedrooms£165 to £280
3 bedrooms£220 to £350
4 bedrooms£300 to £460

Our cost research puts a one-off deep clean of a two to three bedroom home at £165 to £350, which is the anchor the rest of this table is built around.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Single oven deep clean£45 to £80
Double oven£70 to £110
Range cooker£80 to £130

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Will the quarry tiles come up looking new?

They will come up clean, and probably darker and more even than you expect, but cleaning is not sealing. Victorian quarry tile in Sneinton is usually unsealed and slightly porous, so it will start taking on marks again fairly quickly. If you want the finish to hold, the tile needs sealing after it dries fully, which is a separate trade and not something we do.

There is black mould on the timber round our bedroom window. Can you remove it?

We can clean the surface growth off the paint and the cill and leave it looking right. What we cannot do is stop it returning, because in a single glazed sash with a cold solid wall behind it the cause is condensation, not dirt. If it has been painted over rather than treated, it will come back through, and that is a decorating job rather than a cleaning one.

Is the cellar included?

Not by default, and it is better treated as its own job. The cellars under these terraces are unlit, unheated and usually have a brick or stone floor, and many held solid fuel at some point, so the dust down there is soot as much as anything else. We wipe the door, the frame and the threshold as part of the house. If you want the cellar itself doing, say so when you book so it is priced and equipped for properly.

The stone shelf in the pantry is stained. Will it clean up?

It will get cleaner, not new. A slate or sandstone thrall was never sealed, so decades of milk, meat and damp have gone into the stone rather than sitting on it, and bleach will lighten the surface without removing what is underneath. We clean it, rinse it properly and let it dry out fully, because a thrall that is left damp holds a smell. If it is loose on its brackets we will tell you rather than lever at it.

Do you cover the whole of Sneinton?

Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does deep cleaning cost in Sneinton?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start deep cleaning in Sneinton?

Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Tight on-street parking and narrow entries between terraces, and we group Sneinton with Nottingham City Centre, Carlton and West Bridgford on the rota.
