Deep Cleaning for Lady Bay homes

The annual jobs here are damp jobs. The inside of a fitted wardrobe on the outside wall, the boxed pipework in the bathroom, the understairs store, the loft hatch surround: places a maintenance visit never opens and the humid air always finds.

A deep clean here is organised around moisture rather than grease. The kitchen still gets its hours, but the jobs that decide whether the clean was worth booking are the closed ones. The inside of a fitted wardrobe built against an outside wall, where the back panel is a sheet of hardboard with nothing behind it. The boxed pipework in the bathroom, which is warm, dark and open to the void behind the bath. The cupboard under the stairs, unheated, unventilated and full of coats that went in wet. The loft hatch surround, where warm air escapes and leaves a black line on the plaster. None of those get opened in a maintenance visit, and all of them are where the growth in a house like this starts.

Lady Bay sits in NG2, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly Edwardian terraces and interwar semis on a short grid of quiet streets, laid out between the river and the flood embankment, with bay fronts, tunnel entries between pairs and very little later infill, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Lady Bay deep cleaning jobs

Wardrobes are the one people are surprised by. A fitted run against the gable is usually built straight onto the plaster with no gap, so the back of it sits at the temperature of the wall and everything hanging in there is in still air. Shoes on the floor of it grow the first bloom, on the leather rather than the fabric, and it is grey and even rather than spotted. Wiping it off with a damp cloth spreads the spores across the rest of the wardrobe and puts water into a space that cannot lose it. It comes off dry first, with the contents out and the doors left open afterwards.

How a Lady Bay deep cleaning job actually runs

A deep clean in one of these houses is shaped by the back addition. Most of the terraces have a narrow two storey outrigger at the rear holding the kitchen, with the bathroom directly over it, so the two rooms that take longest sit one above the other at the far end of the house, off a hall everything else has to pass through. There is usually a single bathroom for the whole household and no cloakroom downstairs, which means the bathroom comes out of use for a stretch rather than being dipped in and out of, and we would rather agree when that stretch falls than surprise anyone mid morning. Power is the other constraint. Older wiring in a back kitchen tends to give you a socket or two behind the units and nothing sensible for a machine, so we work out where power comes from before we start rather than trailing a lead across a doorway people need to use. A single long day suits these houses better than two shorter ones.

Who books it here

Everything here sits inside a loop of the Trent, low and enclosed, with the water on one side and the embankment on the other. The air holds moisture year round, so anything left wet stays wet longer than the same job would elsewhere, and drying is planned into the visit rather than left to chance.

We run Lady Bay on the same round as West Bridgford, The Meadows and Sneinton.

What we check on every Lady Bay job

The cooker is usually standing in a bricked up chimney recess, and that recess is the part of the kitchen nobody has looked into. The flue above it was capped rather than taken out in most of these houses, and what comes down it is a dry black grit that lands behind and under the cooker and goes nowhere else, because the appliance never moves. Pull it out and the deposit is clearly not kitchen dirt. It is lighter, it smells faintly of tar once the oven has warmed it, and it lifts as a cloud if you go at it with a brush. So it gets vacuumed with a filtered machine before anything wet touches it, and the wall behind is washed from the bottom upward, because a run of dirty water down dry soot leaves a mark that is harder to shift than the soot was.

What the deep cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Hob, including underneath the burner caps
  • Everywhere else: High level dust: light fittings, door tops, picture rails, coving
  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Dishwasher filter and spray arms
  • Everywhere else: Carpet edges, which a normal vacuum pass misses

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Lady Bay property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What deep cleaning costs in Lady Bay

A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£165 to £280

Typical one-off in Lady Bay. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical one-off
Studio£110 to £180
1 bedroom£135 to £220
2 bedrooms£165 to £280
3 bedrooms£220 to £350
4 bedrooms£300 to £460

Our cost research puts a one-off deep clean of a two to three bedroom home at £165 to £350, which is the anchor the rest of this table is built around.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Single oven deep clean£45 to £80
Double oven£70 to £110
Range cooker£80 to £130

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Is the mould in the wardrobe a cleaning problem or a building problem?

Both, in that order. The bloom itself is a cleaning job and it comes off. What put it there is a cold surface, still air and a house sitting in damp ground, and no clean changes any of that. What helps afterwards costs nothing: leave a hand's width between the back of the furniture and the wall, take the doors off the latch when you are out, and do not put anything away damp. Expect to book it again.

When in the year is the best time to book one?

Late spring, once the heating has gone off and before the summer. A winter of closed windows is what puts the bloom in the wardrobes and the cupboards, so cleaning it in March or April takes off a season's worth rather than half of it, and the house then has months of open windows to dry out properly afterwards. Booking in October means cleaning it just before the conditions that caused it come back.

Do we need to be out of the house while you do it?

No, but the day goes faster if the rooms empty ahead of us rather than around us. The bathroom is the real pinch point, because there is only one and it needs a clear run with the extractor going. Working from home is fine, and we will start at the opposite end of the house from wherever you are sitting. If small children or a dog are in, tell us, because it changes where we can safely leave equipment while a floor dries.

You mentioned soot behind the cooker. Should we get the flue looked at?

If it keeps coming back, yes, and by a sweep rather than by us. We clean what has fallen and we can tell you whether it is a one off from a disturbed cap or something arriving steadily, which is the useful distinction. A capped flue that is shedding is a building job, and a chimney that is still open above a blocked opening can also be moving damp air into the room. Neither is cleaning work and we will say so rather than keep clearing it.

Do you cover the whole of Lady Bay?

Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does deep cleaning cost in Lady Bay?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start deep cleaning in Lady Bay?

Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. One way in over the bridge and a grid that leads nowhere else, so the streets stay quiet and a space is usually there, and we group Lady Bay with West Bridgford, The Meadows and Sneinton on the rota.
