Domestic Cleaning for Lady Bay homes

Quiet streets and no through route mean what walks into these houses is garden, river path and dog rather than road grime. The front hall and the stair carpet take it first, and they are where a fortnightly visit either holds or loses.

Nothing drives through here. The grid ends at the embankment and the river, so the traffic on these streets is people who live on them, and that changes what comes into a house. Very little road film, very little brake dust on the front sills. What arrives instead is organic: wet grass off the riverside path, leaf mould from the street trees, silt off the tow path after the water has been up, and whatever a dog collected on the same walk. It lands in the first two metres inside the front door and on the bottom four stair treads, and it is heavier and wetter than city dirt, so it gets pressed into the pile rather than sitting on top of it. We build the visit around that entry strip, because a house here is judged on it.

Lady Bay sits in NG2, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. Regular domestic cleaning takes most of the diary, in houses where people walk to the shops and the school rather than drive. Deep cleans come next, booked when the damp jobs have gone a season too long. Carpet and upholstery work follows, and here it is asked for as much for the smell as for the look of it.

What we run into on Lady Bay domestic cleaning jobs

The doormat is usually the wrong one. What is behind most front doors here is a coir mat, and coir sheds its own fibre and holds water rather than releasing it, so on a wet week it stops being a mat and becomes a sponge that keeps the boards under it damp. Lift one that has been down a season and the floor beneath is darker than the floor either side of it. Underneath, the boards at the threshold are usually the most worn in the house, because the front door is the only door most of these households use. We lift the mat every visit, dry what is under it and put it back.

How a Lady Bay domestic cleaning job actually runs

Getting to a house here is a small piece of planning in itself. Lady Bay Bridge is the crossing that serves this pocket directly, and Trent Boulevard funnels most of what comes over it, so an appointment set for the start of the morning can be a very different journey from one set an hour later. We build rounds around that rather than pretending it does not exist. Once we are on the street, parking is on the road and unallocated, the frontages on the older terraces are narrow, and the space outside your door may well be taken by a neighbour who was there first. That is normal, and it means we sometimes carry kit a few doors along. Key arrangements matter more here than in a place with driveways and side gates. A mid terrace has one way in and no back route, so a key safe on the front wall, agreed with you and sited where it is not obvious from the footway, is usually what makes a regular visit work when nobody is home during the day.

Who books it here

On the practical side: One way in over the bridge and a grid that leads nowhere else, so the streets stay quiet and a space is usually there. Getting out is harder: fixtures across the water close the crossings, so we set start times against the published dates.

We run Lady Bay on the same round as West Bridgford, The Meadows and Sneinton.

What we check on every Lady Bay job

The dust in these houses lives higher up than people expect. Rooms in the Edwardian terraces have ceilings well above head height, with a picture rail running round and deep coving above it, and the top edge of that rail is a shelf nobody has touched since they moved in. What sits on it is a grey felt rather than loose dust, because it is soot from old fires, cooking grease that drifted and cooled, and fibre off the room, all pressed together. It does not lift with a duster. It wants a damp cloth folded over a flat blade so the edge is followed rather than smeared, and it has to be done before the floor rather than after, because it drops as it comes away. The tops of internal doors behave the same way, sitting above the eye line of everyone in the household.

What the domestic cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Kitchen: Bin emptied and relined
  • Bedrooms and living areas: Hard floors mopped
  • Bathrooms: Mirrors polished
  • Kitchen: Appliance fronts

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full domestic cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What domestic cleaning costs in Lady Bay

Regular domestic cleaning, per visit, at a typical company rate. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£50 to £70

Typical per visit in Lady Bay. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per visit
1 bed flat£40 to £50
2 bed£50 to £70
3 bed£60 to £80
4 bed£80 to £100
5 bed£100 to £120

A fortnightly clean of a two bedroom home works out around £1,560 to £1,820 a year. Weekly is roughly double.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Regular domestic, per hour£17 to £25
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

We walk the dog along the river most days. Is there anything that actually helps?

A second mat inside the first, on a hard floor rather than carpet, and a rubber backed one that can be shaken out and washed. Coir on its own holds the water instead of taking it away. Beyond that, the honest answer is that the entry strip needs doing every visit rather than every other one, and we would rather spend the extra minutes there than anywhere else in the house.

Weekly or fortnightly for a three bedroom terrace here?

Fortnightly suits most of these houses, because the rooms are small and the layout is efficient. The exception is a household that is in and out on foot all day, with children and a dog, where the hall, the stairs and the kitchen fill up in a week whatever the rest of the house is doing. In that case a fortnightly visit with a short weekly call on those three areas works better than making the whole house weekly.

Where will you park, and what happens if there is nowhere outside?

We park legally on the street and walk the kit in, which is a minute either way and not something you need to solve for us. What does help is telling us if your stretch is tight, or if there is a spot that frees up at a particular time, because we can set the slot to match. We will not block a neighbour's frontage or a dropped kerb, and we do not expect you to move your own car for us.

We have original floorboards downstairs. What do you use on them?

Very little water, and never a soaking mop. Old boards move at the joints and any liquid that goes into a gap ends up under the floor rather than on it. We work with a barely damp flat mop and a neutral cleaner, going with the grain, and we change the water often because grit dragged along a board scratches the finish. If yours are waxed rather than lacquered, tell us at the first visit, because wax needs a different routine and the wrong product dulls it.

Do you cover the whole of Lady Bay?

Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does domestic cleaning cost in Lady Bay?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the bathroom count more than the bedroom count, how often we come, and whether there are pets. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start domestic cleaning in Lady Bay?

Usually within a week for a regular rota, and we will tell you the day rather than a window. One way in over the bridge and a grid that leads nowhere else, so the streets stay quiet and a space is usually there, and we group Lady Bay with West Bridgford, The Meadows and Sneinton on the rota.
