Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Lady Bay homes
Two things run together in this pocket: pile that dries slower than it should, and wool carpet with moth in the quiet edges of rooms nobody rearranges. We plan the drying and we look under the furniture before anything gets wet.
Two things make carpet work here different from the same job two miles inland. The first is drying. A ground floor carpet sits on boards over a void that is barely ventilated and close to wet ground, so it can only give up moisture upward, into air that is already carrying plenty. A room that would be walkable in four hours elsewhere is not, and leaving it shut to dry is the worst thing you can do. The second is moth. Wool pile, a humid room and furniture that has not been moved in years is exactly what case bearing carpet moth wants, and the damage sits in the strip under a sofa or along the skirting behind a bed, where nobody looks until the carpet is lifted.
Lady Bay sits in NG2, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly Edwardian terraces and interwar semis on a short grid of quiet streets, laid out between the river and the flood embankment, with bay fronts, tunnel entries between pairs and very little later infill, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Lady Bay carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
Moth damage reads differently from wear and the two get confused. Wear thins the pile evenly across a walked line and the backing stays sound. Moth takes the fibre off in irregular bald patches with the backing left intact and visible, always in the dark and undisturbed places, and there is usually a scatter of small silk cases the colour of the carpet along the skirting nearby. Wet cleaning kills what is in the pile at the time and does nothing about eggs in the underlay or in the gap at the gripper rod. So the furniture comes out, the edges get a hand tool rather than a wand, and the room gets vacuumed again a fortnight later.
How a Lady Bay carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
The floor mix in these houses decides the shape of the job. Downstairs is often original board, sanded and finished, with rugs laid over it, while fitted carpet survives on the stairs, the landing and the bedrooms. So a booking here is rarely a lounge and a dining room. It is a staircase, a landing, bedrooms and a couple of rugs, which is far more edge work and far less open floor than the same area would be elsewhere. Rugs come off the boards and get cleaned clear of the floor rather than on it, because a finished board takes water badly at the joints. Setting up matters too. The machine stays in the van and the hose runs in through the front door and along the hall, so the door is propped for the duration and the hose crosses the tiled path and the step on its way. We lay protection over both before anything else comes off the van, and in cold weather we work the ground floor first so the door is shut again sooner.
Who books it here
Regular domestic cleaning takes most of the diary, in houses where people walk to the shops and the school rather than drive. Deep cleans come next, booked when the damp jobs have gone a season too long. Carpet and upholstery work follows, and here it is asked for as much for the smell as for the look of it.
We run Lady Bay on the same round as West Bridgford, The Meadows and Sneinton.
What we check on every Lady Bay job
Stairs in these houses are steep, narrow and usually turn at the top on winders, and that geometry is where the wear and the soil actually sit. The tread at the narrow end of a winder is barely a foot deep, so everybody puts their weight on the wide end, and the pile there flattens and traps grit while the rest of the step still looks new. The angle where tread meets riser is the other one. Grit falls into that junction, a domestic vacuum head cannot reach into it, and it stays there abrading the base of the pile every time somebody goes up. Both places take a hand tool and a slow pass rather than a wand, and a stair carpet done properly usually comes up noticeably lighter along the nosings than the owner was expecting.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Upholstery: Cleaned panel by panel so no drying edge shows
- Also covered: Pet urine, with enzymatic pre-treatment and extra dwell time
- Carpets: Hot water extraction at pressure
- Upholstery: Embedded hair lifted with a rubber brush
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Lady Bay
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£35 to £60
Typical one-off in Lady Bay. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical one-off |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Single room | £35 to £60 |
| Hallway, stairs and landing | £45 to £85 |
| 2 bed flat, throughout | £75 to £175 |
| 3 bed house, throughout | £140 to £260 |
| 4 bed house, throughout | £200 to £350 |
Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Upholstery, 3 seat sofa | £45 to £90 |
| Mattress clean | £30 to £60 |
| Pet urine treatment, per spot | £15 to £40 |
| Rug, per square metre | £8 to £20 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

How long will the carpet take to dry in a house like this?
Longer than the standard answer, which is why we do not give one on the phone. On a suspended floor over a damp void, with the outside air already humid, we plan for air movers running in the room and windows open rather than for a room left shut. Expect the day rather than the afternoon, and do not put the furniture back on damp pile, because the feet mark it and the marks set as it dries.
We have bald patches under the sofa. Can cleaning fix them?
Cleaning stops it spreading, it does not put the fibre back. What has gone has been eaten and the only repair is a patch let in from an offcut or a cupboard, or a new carpet. What cleaning does is remove the larvae and the food source, which is the skin and hair in the base of the pile, and give you a starting point. Move the sofa a few times a year afterwards.
Can we just have the stairs and landing done rather than the whole house?
Yes, and in these houses it is often the sensible booking. The stairs carry everything the hall collects and they are the piece a domestic vacuum handles worst, so they get dirty first and show it soonest. It is slow work rather than a small job, because it is all edges and hand tool, but it is a real option on its own. Add the landing while we are set up, since the hose is already up there and it costs almost no extra time.
Do the rugs have to be taken away?
Not always. A rug can be cleaned on site if there is a hard floor or a protected area to lift it onto and somewhere it can dry flat with air moving over it. What it cannot do is dry in place on your boards, because the moisture goes down into the joints and the rug marks the finish. Older wool or hand knotted rugs with unstable dyes are different, and those we would rather handle off site where the drying can be controlled.
Do you cover the whole of Lady Bay?
Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Lady Bay?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Lady Bay?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. One way in over the bridge and a grid that leads nowhere else, so the streets stay quiet and a space is usually there, and we group Lady Bay with West Bridgford, The Meadows and Sneinton on the rota.
