Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for The Meadows homes
Carpet laid over a concrete slab dries from one side only, because there is no ventilated void beneath it to take the moisture away. Water control is the whole skill here, and it is why we run air movers rather than leaving a room shut.
Extraction over a concrete slab is a different proposition from extraction over boards, and it is the thing that decides how this job runs on the estate. A suspended timber floor has a ventilated void beneath it that draws moisture away from below. A slab has nothing. Everything that goes into the carpet has to come back out through the top, and whatever is left behind sits between the underlay and the concrete where it cannot evaporate. So the method changes. Lower moisture, more dry passes, and air moving across the surface from the moment we stop rather than a shut door and a hopeful afternoon. Get that wrong and a clean carpet smells worse in a week than a dirty one did.
The Meadows sits in NG2, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly low-rise redevelopment from the 1970s and 1980s, laid out around pedestrian walkways and rear parking courts, with older terraces surviving toward Queens Drive and flats and maisonettes near Bridgeway, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on The Meadows carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
The soil down here is coarser than city dust. The walkways, the embankment paths and the grass along the river put grit and fine sand into a pile rather than the soft grey soil an inland hallway collects, and grit is abrasive under a shoe. It shows as a dulling along the lane from the door rather than as a stain, and once the fibre tips are scuffed the sheen does not come back at any price. What extraction does is take the abrasive out before it does another year of damage, which is why the interval between cleans matters more here than the product does.
How a The Meadows carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
Where the machine stands decides how the day goes here. On a street with a driveway a portable unit sits by the van and the hoses reach the door. On these frontages the van is in the rear court and the front door is round the block on a walkway, so we plan the run before anything is unpacked: which door, how far, and where the hose crosses a threshold that has to stay clean and stay closed enough to be secure. Most of the time the answer is to bring the machine indoors, fill from your kitchen tap and empty into your own waste, which needs a clear route through the hall and somewhere to stand that is not carpet. It also means telling you honestly that a small hall is going to have a machine in it for a couple of hours. Rooms get done in an order that keeps the walked route to the last thing cleaned, so nothing finished has to be walked over again while the kit comes back out. If your kitchen tap has no hose fitting, tell us beforehand, because filling from a bathroom instead adds a stair climb to every tank.
Who books it here
Regular domestic cleaning across the estate, a steady run of end of tenancy work because a large share of the stock is let, and window cleaning booked more often than the size of the houses would suggest, since ground floor glass sits at eye level on the walkways everybody uses to get home.
We run The Meadows on the same round as Nottingham City Centre, Wilford and West Bridgford.
What we check on every The Meadows job
Stairs are the part people leave off the booking and the part that most needs doing. A straight flight with no half landing, which is what nearly all of these houses have, takes the whole household up and down in the same narrow line, and the wear concentrates on the front edge of each tread where the pile is already compressed over the nosing. Cleaning them properly means the tread and the riser worked separately with a hand tool, from the top down, with each pass overlapped rather than swept along the flight. It is slow and it cannot be hurried with a wand. The other giveaway is the bottom two treads, which take the soil carried in from the back door and are usually a shade darker than the rest of the flight before anybody notices. Drying a flight needs thinking about too, since warm air rises out of the landing without ever crossing the treads, so we set an air mover at the bottom aimed up the flight.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Carpets: Pile groomed, protective tabs under furniture legs
- Carpets: Agitation with a brush or rotary tool
- Carpets: Fibre identified and a colourfast test in an inconspicuous area
- Also covered: Rugs, on site or collected
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in The Meadows
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£35 to £60
Typical one-off in The Meadows. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical one-off |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Single room | £35 to £60 |
| Hallway, stairs and landing | £45 to £85 |
| 2 bed flat, throughout | £75 to £175 |
| 3 bed house, throughout | £140 to £260 |
| 4 bed house, throughout | £200 to £350 |
Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Upholstery, 3 seat sofa | £45 to £90 |
| Mattress clean | £30 to £60 |
| Pet urine treatment, per spot | £15 to £40 |
| Rug, per square metre | £8 to £20 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The floor is a concrete slab. How long before the carpet is dry?
Longer than the same carpet over boards, and the honest answer is most of a day rather than an afternoon. We shorten it with air movers and by opening whatever can safely be opened, and we check with a moisture meter instead of by hand, because a pile can feel dry at the tip while the backing underneath is still wet. Stay off it in socks until it is done, and leave furniture up on protectors overnight.
Is it worth cleaning a sofa that came with the flat?
On the inventory, yes, because its condition gets judged at check-out the same way the oven does. Upholstery also holds far more than it shows: a three seater in a furnished let carries body oil in the arms and the headrests long before the cushions look like anything. We read the cleaning code on the label first, since some of the cheaper furnishing fabrics can only take solvent and water will ring them permanently.
There is nowhere to park outside our door. Does that stop you working?
No, it just changes the setup. The machine comes in on a trolley from the court and works indoors off your tap and your drain, so we need a route through and a hard surface for it to sit on. What we do ask is that the court itself is clear enough to unload into, because the kit is heavy and carrying it round the block adds time to the visit before any cleaning has started.
Can you clean just the stairs and the hall?
Yes, and it is a sensible booking in these houses, because the hall and the flight take most of the traffic while the bedrooms take almost none. Be aware of the join, though. A freshly cleaned hall next to a landing that has not been touched will show the difference clearly, so if the same carpet runs on through, it is usually worth continuing to the natural edge of it rather than stopping at a doorway.
Do you cover the whole of The Meadows?
Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in The Meadows?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in The Meadows?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Park in the rear court and walk round, because the road the address belongs to and the door you knock on are often on opposite sides of the block, and we group The Meadows with Nottingham City Centre, Wilford and West Bridgford on the rota.
