Oven Cleaning for Mapperley homes

Villa kitchens keep the old chimney recess, and a wide range cooker has usually been slid into it, so there are two or three cavities rather than one. The interwar semis toward Porchester run a built under double in a narrow galley instead.

Where the trays go is the first thing we work out in a Mapperley kitchen, because a range cooker fills the old chimney recess and the worktop either side of it is short. In a villa the kitchen usually sits at the back on the lower level, and the door out of it opens onto a step down into a yard or a flight up into a terraced garden, so a soaking tank cannot simply live outside the back door the way it does on a flat plot. We set it on the most level ground within a few steps, and everything that comes out of the cavity, racks, runners, trays, grill pan and the burner parts off a wide hob, travels there in one trip rather than six.

Mapperley sits in NG3, under Nottingham City Council and Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly Victorian villas on the hill, interwar semis toward Porchester, and a steady flow of converted flats, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Mapperley oven cleaning jobs

The converted flats are the opposite job. A kitchen carved out of what was a bedroom has a slot in cooker, a narrow hob and a hood that vents nowhere, because there was no way to cut a duct through a wall the freeholder controls. That hood recirculates through a charcoal filter, and a charcoal filter is replaced rather than cleaned, so we degrease the canopy and the metal mesh, then tell you which filter it takes rather than pretending the smell has been dealt with. It is also why grease reaches further in these kitchens: what an extract would have carried outside lands on the wall units instead.

How a Mapperley oven cleaning job actually runs

The practical constraint here is the distance between the cooker and the van. A dip tank lives in the vehicle, and on a level street the racks and trays go straight out to it and back. On a hill road with cars down both sides and a house standing above the pavement at the top of its own flight, that becomes a loaded carry down wet stone steps, which is not something anybody should be doing with hot solution in their hands. So the tank comes to the property instead and sits wherever there is level ground, and the van only needs to be within reach for water and equipment rather than for every part that comes out of the cavity. Booking earlier in the day helps for a separate reason. The steep roads fill up once people are home, and the space nearest a house up here is normally gone by late afternoon, so a morning slot generally gets us within sight of the front door. If there is a garage at road level below the house, or a drive that will take a van without blocking anybody in, say so when you book, because it changes the set up and usually saves half an hour of walking.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Steep streets and some properties well above road level. Worth telling us if there is a long flight up from the pavement, since it changes how we plan the equipment.

We run Mapperley on the same round as Sherwood, Carlton and Sneinton.

What we check on every Mapperley job

What we find in these kitchens follows the ventilation. Where a canopy hood over a range has been ducted up the disused flue, the run is long and it turns, so grease condenses inside it and works back down onto the hotplate cover as brown spots that people scrub at without ever finding the source. We clean the canopy and the mesh filters, then tell you if the duct above is the actual problem, because that is a job for whoever fitted it. The other reliable find is under the appliance. Kitchen floors in this stock are rarely level, so the gap beneath a freestanding cooker is wider at one end, and everything that has ever gone over the edge of the hob has ended up at the low side. We pull the cooker out where it is safe to, clean the floor, the plinth and both sides, and if it rocks on its feet we say so rather than pushing it back and hoping nobody notices.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The oven itself: Door glass separated where the panes come out, so the space between them is cleaned
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Ceramic and induction: burnt sugar and boil-over taken off with a blade held flat, then polished
  • How the job is left: Existing damage photographed and pointed out before we start, not after
  • The oven itself: Fan cover and back plate removed where the model allows, and the housing behind it degreased

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What oven cleaning costs in Mapperley

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Mapperley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

We have a range cooker in the old chimney opening. Is that one job or several?

Several, and it is priced that way. A ninety or one hundred and ten centimetre range is two cavities, sometimes three with a separate grill, plus a hotplate, plus the burner caps and pan supports off the top. Each cavity is stripped and treated on its own timing. The recess it stands in matters too: the sides and the wall behind get greasy where a freestanding cooker in an open run of worktop never would, and we clean those while the parts soak.

Can the trays soak outside if there is nowhere flat?

They soak wherever we can stand a tank level, and on a stepped plot that is sometimes a landing halfway up the garden steps rather than the back door. What we will not do is set a tank of hot caustic solution on a slope next to a route people use, so if the only flat ground is inside, we protect the floor and it goes in the kitchen. Tell us whether the back door opens onto steps, because it changes where we set up.

Our kitchen floor is not level. Will you still pull the cooker out?

Where it is safe to and where the connection allows it. A freestanding electric cooker on its own outlet comes forward on its feet, and on an uneven floor that means lifting rather than sliding, because a foot catching on a lipped tile is how a cooker tips. Anything on a gas bayonet stays put unless the flexible hose has genuine slack, and we will not disconnect one. If it comes out, it goes back square and its stability bracket goes back with it.

Can you work while we are upstairs?

Yes, and how we ventilate matters in a tall house. The products are low odour rather than odourless, and an open stairwell over three levels moves air upward, so a window open on the top landing with the kitchen door open pulls whatever is in the kitchen through the rest of the property. We do the opposite: kitchen window open, kitchen door shut, extract running where there is one. If the kitchen is the through route to the garden, tell us and we will work around it.

Do you cover the whole of Mapperley?

Yes, all of NG3 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council and Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Mapperley?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Mapperley?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Steep streets and some properties well above road level, and we group Mapperley with Sherwood, Carlton and Sneinton on the rota.
