Oven Cleaning for Carlton homes
Terrace kitchens are a narrow rear addition with a slot-in cooker dropped between two base units and no spare worktop anywhere, so the racks and trays soak outside. The Gedling side semis run a built under double in a tall housing instead.
Two kitchens here, two oven jobs. In the terraces the kitchen is the rear addition, a narrow galley with the back door at the far end of it, and the cooker is usually a freestanding slot-in standing in a sixty centimetre gap between base units with a lipped worktop each side. That gap is the whole story: nothing can be laid down, the open door blocks the only walking route, and the two exposed unit ends beside it carry a hardened wick of fat that has run down and set. On the Gedling side the semis run a built under double in a tall housing, with the grill in the upper cavity and used most days, so the top oven is the filthy one and the main oven below it is barely touched.
Carlton sits in NG4, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly Victorian terraces along Carlton Hill and interwar semis spreading north toward Gedling, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Carlton oven cleaning jobs
The laminate worktop edge next to the hob is what we check before anything wet goes near it. In a kitchen of this age the rolled front edge nearest the burners has taken years of steam and boil over, and the chipboard core behind the joint has swollen a fraction so the edge no longer sits flush against the surface. Degreaser standing in that lip wicks straight into the board and makes the swelling worse. We tape it, work dry along that side and keep the soaking in the tank. The other constant is the cooker feet, which press permanent dents into cushioned vinyl and leave the appliance sitting very slightly out of level.
How a Carlton oven cleaning job actually runs
Booking an oven clean in a terrace works around one fact: the rear addition kitchen is a through route. The back door sits at the far end of it, so the yard, the bins and anybody leaving pass the open appliance while the job runs. We take these mid morning where the diary allows, lift the removable parts out to the van before the cavity is opened, and keep that walking line clear rather than laying anything along the floor. Parking is off the main road, so the tank and the kit come in on one trip and the racks go back out the same way. The Gedling side is easier: a drive, a side door and a proper run of worktop. Two questions settle the time on the phone. Is the cooker freestanding or built under, because that decides whether it moves at all, and is there a hob and a hood going in with it, since the mesh filter holds more grease than anything else in the room and it soaks alongside the racks rather than after them. Give us the make too, since door glass varies by model rather than age.
Who books it here
On the practical side: On-street, usually available. Carlton Hill itself is busy, so we work from the side roads.
We run Carlton on the same round as Mapperley, Sneinton and Arnold.
What we check on every Carlton job
The parts that repay a strip down are consistent across this stock. The fan back plate in a built under double, held on two or four screws, hides a housing nothing has ever reached and which carries the burnt residue of everything the fan has circulated. The gap under the door, where the seal stops and the enamel returns, holds a black line of carbon a wipe from the front never gets to. On a slot in cooker the appliance side panels and the plinth below the door come up as well, because nothing has been near either since it was delivered. Grill pan handles, rack support runners and the chrome shelf ladders on both cavity walls go into the tank with everything else. What we do not touch is a catalytic liner, which is a rough matt panel rather than smooth enamel and is destroyed permanently by anything caustic, and those get identified before a product is opened rather than after.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The oven itself: Racks, side runners, trays and the grill pan lifted out and soaked, not wiped in place
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Metal mesh filters degreased in solution, which is the part holding most of the grease
- How the job is left: The housing the oven sits in, and the plinth below it
- The oven itself: Door seal cleaned around rather than soaked, because a saturated seal perishes
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Carlton property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What oven cleaning costs in Carlton
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Carlton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
There is nowhere to put the racks and trays down. Where do they go?
Into the tank, which is where they were going anyway. In a galley rear addition there is no spare worktop and no spare floor either, so nothing gets stood on your surfaces. Racks, side runners, trays and the grill pan come out first and go straight through the back door before the cavity is opened. What stays in the kitchen is the oven itself, the door and whoever is working on it.
Our cooker sits in a gap between two units. Can it be pulled out?
A freestanding electric one usually can, and it is worth doing, because the appliance sides and the two unit ends beside them are where the run down grease has set hardest. Gas is different. We will not pull a cooker off its bayonet fitting, so if you want the wall and floor behind it done, have the installer disconnect it first. Either way we tell you what has been left rather than let you find it.
Can the hob and the extractor be done at the same visit?
Yes, and it is the sensible order, because the soak is already running by then. The mesh filter out of the hood is the item holding most of the grease in a kitchen like this and it goes into the same solution as the racks. Gas burner caps, crowns and pan supports soak with them. Each is priced as its own item, so you can add one and leave the others without paying for a package you did not want.
How long is the kitchen out of use?
The working part of a morning or an afternoon for a single oven, longer for a double with a hob and a hood alongside it. The room is only genuinely blocked while the cavity is being treated and rinsed, and the soaking happens outside it. There is no waiting period at the end: the cavity is rinsed until the water comes off clean, so you can cook that evening with nothing smoking and no smell on the first heat.
Do you cover the whole of Carlton?
Yes, all of NG4 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Carlton?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Carlton?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. On-street, usually available, and we group Carlton with Mapperley, Sneinton and Arnold on the rota.
