Oven Cleaning for Arnold homes
Three kitchens, three cookers. The postwar semis run a built-in single in a tall housing beside the fridge. The estates on the edge have an eye level double and a separate hob. Front Street cottages keep a freestanding cooker in the old chimney recess.
Which oven you have here follows the age of the house closely enough to guess before arriving. The postwar semis were refitted at some point in the nineties or after, and that refit put a single built-in oven into a tall housing next to the fridge, with a separate four ring hob set into the worktop. The estates on the edge of Arnold went a step further, an eye level double with the grill in the top cavity, which is two cavities to strip rather than one. The cottages up towards Front Street usually kept a freestanding cooker standing in the recess where a solid fuel range once sat, and that recess puts the whole job at knee height.
Arnold sits in NG5, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly postwar semis and estates around the town centre, with older cottages near Front Street and newer developments on the edges, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Arnold oven cleaning jobs
The tall housing is what separates a proper oven clean here from a wipe over. Fat runs off the door as it is opened and lands on the lip of the unit below, then on the trim strip and the plinth under that, and after a year it has hardened into a brown ridge almost the colour of the timber. The appliance has to come forward on its own runners before any of it is reachable. Behind, the back panel of the housing carries the same film, and the flexible conduit and its grommet have generally collected a mat of dust cooked hard onto them. None of that is inside the appliance, which is why it survives every clean.
How an Arnold oven cleaning job actually runs
An oven clean is booked as its own visit here rather than folded into something else, and a double or a range wants three to four hours in the diary. Access decides where the work actually happens. There is a drive at almost every address, so the van sits at the door and the soak tank, the folding bench and the trays come in on one carry instead of being walked from a side street. Most of these houses have a back door from the kitchen straight onto the garden, and in anything but midwinter that is where the parts go: bench outside the door, protection down, and caustic wet items nowhere near a floor somebody is walking on in socks. Indoors, a run of protection goes down from the appliance to that door before a single screw comes out. We need the oven cold, so nothing cooked that morning, and we need to know in advance if it is a heat storage cooker, because those are switched off the night before. Nobody has to be in for the whole visit as long as the kitchen is clear and the power is on.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Good. Most properties have a drive or reliable on-street parking, which is a small thing that keeps slots running to time.
We run Arnold on the same round as Sherwood, Carlton and Hucknall.
What we check on every Arnold job
The checkable items on the built-ins that dominate this stock: the inner door pane taken out where the screws in the top edge of the door allow it, so the film between the panes goes rather than being polished from one side only; the fan cover and the back plate off, and the housing behind them degreased instead of sprayed through the grille; the wire side runners lifted out as a pair and soaked, since those cradles hook rather than slide and hold soil in the hook itself; the door seal cleaned around and never soaked, because a saturated seal perishes and then the door stops sealing; the interior light lens; the drip tray under a grill compartment on a freestanding cooker; and the housing itself, floor, sides, back panel and the trim strip below the door. Anything that will not come back is named as damage rather than left vague: pitted enamel, a crazed inner pane, rust through the cavity floor.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Ceramic and induction: burnt sugar and boil-over taken off with a blade held flat, then polished
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Microwave interior, roof plate, turntable and door seal
- How the job is left: The housing the oven sits in, and the plinth below it
- The oven itself: Fan cover and back plate removed where the model allows, and the housing behind it degreased
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Arnold
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Arnold. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The oven is built into a tall unit. Does it have to come out?
It slides forward on its own runners as far as the fixing screws in the door frame allow, which is enough to reach the floor of the housing, the sides and the back panel. It is not disconnected. A hardwired appliance stays wired, and that is an electrician's job rather than a cleaner's. Where an oven has been boxed in with the worktop over it, we clean what is genuinely reachable and tell you what is not.
Ours is a cooker sitting in the old chimney recess. Is that different?
In two ways. The recess has a brick reveal either side, so there is no worktop beside the appliance to set racks and trays down on, and the doors cannot open fully. We bring a folding bench and work off that instead. The other difference is heat storage cookers, which have to be off and completely cold before anything is applied, so those need a day of notice rather than a morning call.
There is a hob and an extractor as well. Is it worth doing all three in one visit?
Yes, and it comes to less than three separate bookings, because most of the time on any of them is soaking rather than effort. Burner caps, crowns and pan supports go into the same tank as the racks and runners while the cavity is dwelling, so what the extra items really cost is the reassembly. The one thing we will not do is clean a charcoal filter in a recirculating extractor. Those are replaced rather than washed, and we will read you the model number to order instead.
It has not been touched in years. Is it too far gone to be worth booking?
Almost never, because what is on it is carbonised fat rather than damage, and carbon comes off with chemistry and time rather than force. What a badly neglected oven changes is the length of the visit and the number of rinses, not the result at the end of it. The two things that genuinely do not recover are rust through the cavity floor, which is the metal gone rather than something sitting on it, and chipped enamel. We will tell you which you have before starting.
Do you cover the whole of Arnold?
Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Arnold?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Arnold?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Good, and we group Arnold with Sherwood, Carlton and Hucknall on the rota.
