Oven Cleaning for Bestwood Village homes
The cooker in the old rows stands free in the recess the range once filled, with a few centimetres of gap each side and no worktop to set a hot rack on. The estates give you a built in double in a tall housing instead.
Where the cooker stands decides the visit before anyone opens the door. In the old rows the kitchen is the back addition, a narrow galley, and the cooker stands free in the recess the range once occupied, with a gap of a few centimetres down each side and a wall behind it that has taken decades of frying. There is no run of worktop to set a hot rack down on and one shallow sink to work at, which is why the soaking happens in a tank we carry rather than in your basin. On the estates it is a built in double at chest height in a tall housing, with the hob a separate item on an island or a peninsula. Those are two different quotes and two genuinely different lengths of visit.
Bestwood Village sits in NG6, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly older brick terraces and cottages from the days when the pit was working, then a good deal of large private estate building added in recent decades on the open ground at the edges, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Bestwood Village oven cleaning jobs
Pull one of those freestanding cookers out of its recess and the thing nobody has seen is on the wall behind. Grease throws up in a fan that follows the shape of the hob, thickest at about head height, and because the recess is deeper than the cooker there is a ledge at the back where the old hearth was that has caught everything running down for years. The sides of the cooker are worse than the front for the same reason: a few centimetres of gap takes splash from both directions and nothing has ever reached into it. That wall and those two side panels are the difference between a cleaned oven and a cleaned cooker.
How a Bestwood Village oven cleaning job actually runs
Two practical things about the back kitchens in the old rows. They are small and they are cold, and both matter to this job. The room needs the window and the yard door open while we work, which is fine in September and less pleasant in February, so tell us if you would rather take a milder week. The appliance also has to be stone cold, which means not using it that morning, and on a single oven household that is worth planning around a meal rather than discovering at ten. Space is the other one. With a tank, a tray, a set of racks and a door laid flat, there is no room for anybody else in there, so the kitchen is ours for the visit and any pet stays behind a door. On the estates the constraint reverses. The kitchen is large but it is open to the living space and to the stairs, so we sheet a bigger area than the appliance and ventilate towards the garden doors rather than through the house. Parking is straightforward there and less so on the rows, where the van goes on the road and everything comes in through the front.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Newer closes have drives and visitor bays. The older rows front straight onto the pavement, so the van goes on the road and the kit is carried in. On a fine weekend the park pulls cars into the village, and we take that end early.
We run Bestwood Village on the same round as Bestwood, Hucknall and Rise Park.
What we check on every Bestwood Village job
The extractor is where the two halves of the village separate again. Over a cooker in a back addition the ducting is short, straight out through a single skin wall, and that last stretch runs cold, so grease condenses inside it within a few centimetres of the outside and eventually finds its way back down onto the canopy. You see it as a bead along the inside lip of the hood that returns a fortnight after the hood is wiped. Above an island on the estates the duct goes the other way, up into a ceiling void and along a considerable run before it reaches an outside wall, and the length of that run is why those mesh filters load up faster than a wall canopy of the same age. Neither is fixed by wiping the visible metal. The mesh filters come out and go into solution, which is where most of the grease in either kitchen actually is.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The oven itself: Door seal cleaned around rather than soaked, because a saturated seal perishes
- How the job is left: Existing damage photographed and pointed out before we start, not after
- The oven itself: Rinsed repeatedly, so nothing smokes the first time you use it
- How the job is left: Everything reassembled in the right order, including the glass, and the door checked for closure
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Bestwood Village
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Bestwood Village. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The cooker is freestanding in the old chimney recess. Will you move it out?
Where it is safe to, yes, and it is worth doing because the sides and the wall behind carry more than the cavity does. Electric cookers on a plug or a cooker point come forward easily on a protected floor. A gas cooker on a bayonet fitting stays where it is, because taking it off that connection is gas work and not ours. Tell us which you have when you book and we will plan the visit round it.
Our kitchen is tiny and there is nowhere to put anything down. Is that a problem?
No, it is the normal position in these back kitchens and we come equipped for it. Racks, runners, trays and the grill pan go into a heated tank in the van rather than into your sink, so the worktop stays free and nothing hot sits on a surface that cannot take it. What we do need is the floor clear and the room to ourselves, because the door comes off the hinge pins in some models and everything is laid out at ankle height.
Can the hob and the extractor be done at the same visit?
Yes, and they are priced as their own items rather than folded into the oven. It is usually the sensible way round out here, because we are already in the village with the tank hot and the floor protected. Say at the booking whether the hob is gas, ceramic or induction, and whether the extractor has metal mesh filters or a charcoal one, since charcoal filters are replaced rather than cleaned and we will tell you what yours takes.
The kitchen is open plan. Does the rest of the room need clearing?
Not clearing, but the nearest surfaces want to be empty and anything on a low shelf beside the housing should come off. We protect the floor and the run of worktop we work across before anything is opened. The reason to bother is that a tall housing has an open top and a plinth below it, and both get done, so there is movement around the unit rather than just in front of it.
Do you cover the whole of Bestwood Village?
Yes, all of NG6 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Bestwood Village?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Bestwood Village?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Newer closes have drives and visitor bays, and we group Bestwood Village with Bestwood, Hucknall and Rise Park on the rota.
