Oven Cleaning for Bulwell homes
The estate kitchens toward Rise Park kept the original cooker recess, so a freestanding cooker stands in a slot with a plastered wall each side. Behind the shops the kitchen is a converted back room with nowhere at all to lay soaking parts down.
Bulwell runs three kinds of cooker and they are not equally difficult. A good number of the postwar houses toward Rise Park still use the recess the kitchen was built with, a slot between the chimney breast and the back wall sized for a freestanding cooker, so the appliance has a plastered wall within a hand's width on both sides. Where those kitchens have been refitted there is a built-in single under the worktop and a separate hob, which is the easiest version of this job. The terraces and the flats behind the market place run whatever fitted the gap, usually a slimline cooker chosen for the width rather than the cooking. The recess is the one that changes the visit, because none of it can be reached until the cooker comes out.
Bulwell sits in NG6, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly Victorian terraces around the market place, postwar estates toward Rise Park, and newer development along the tram corridor, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Bulwell oven cleaning jobs
The recess walls are the find. Plaster or tile a hand's width from a hot pan takes everything thrown sideways off it, and because nobody looks at a surface hidden behind the cooker, the film builds until it is brown and slightly sticky rather than greasy. Hot water does nothing to it. It wants an alkaline degreaser, real dwell time and a proper rinse, because anything left behind turns tacky again within days. Behind the appliance, the gap down to the skirting holds whatever has ever been dropped near it, and the back panel of the cooker is dustier than it is greasy, since the heat and the fat are both at the front.
How a Bulwell oven cleaning job actually runs
Bookings here work around two things: where the van can stand, and whether there is a window that opens. The removable parts go out to a heated tank in the van, so racks, runners, trays and burner caps travel from your kitchen to the kerb and back, and on a terraced street under parking pressure that carry wants to be short. Tell us which end of the street you are on when you book. In the flats and units behind the shops the same trip is up and down a stair, so those jobs are quoted with the stair in mind rather than discovered on the day. Ventilation is the other one. The products are caustic and the controls are airflow, gloves and thorough rinsing, so the yard door or the back door stands open while we work, which in January means saying so in advance rather than opening it and hoping. Estate houses give us a drive, a back door and space to set a bench down, and those run to time on almost every visit.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Market days fill the centre. We work early or late around it for the commercial jobs.
We run Bulwell on the same round as New Basford, Aspley and Hucknall.
What we check on every Bulwell job
The door is where the difference shows. Built-in ovens fitted into these estate kitchens through the nineties and after mostly have an inner pane held by two clips along the bottom edge, which comes out in a couple of minutes and puts the whole inside face within reach. Slimline freestanding cookers are less predictable: some have a single pane with a printed border, some have two with no route in at all, and we check yours and say which before anything is taken apart. The film between panes is not splash. It is fat that has run down the inside of the glass and set in layers, which is why wiping the inner face never changes what you can see through the door. Alongside that, the repeat finds in this stock are control knobs that lift off to show a ring of baked soil where they met the fascia, an interior light lens gone yellow and opaque, and a socket behind the cooker nothing has ever been moved to reach.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The oven itself: Cavity roof, floor, sides and back, treated and left to dwell rather than scoured
- How the job is left: Usable straight away, with no waiting period and no smell on first heat
- How the job is left: Everything reassembled in the right order, including the glass, and the door checked for closure
- How the job is left: The housing the oven sits in, and the plinth below it
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Bulwell
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Bulwell. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The walls either side of the cooker are worse than the oven. Are they included?
The housing an appliance sits in is part of the job, and in a recess that means both side walls, the wall behind and the plinth line under the front. What we cannot promise is colour. Paint scorched by years of heat, or gloss tile with a crazed glaze, comes back clean and can still look patchy, because the discolouration is in the surface rather than on it. We point out which it is when we look at the kitchen, not afterwards.
We run a small food premises near the market place. Can you do the cooker and the canopy?
The appliance yes, on the same basis as a domestic one: cavity, door glass, racks and the removable parts, out of trading hours. The canopy and the ductwork above it are a different trade. Commercial kitchen extract is inspected and certificated against TR19 for insurance purposes, which needs its own ticket and we do not hold it. Ask anyone quoting for that side of it to show you theirs.
The oven in a house we are letting has never been done. How long does that take?
Longer than a maintained one, and it is better booked as its own job than folded into a tenancy clean. Carbon built up over years needs two applications with dwell time between them rather than one, so allow the appliance most of a morning. Do it a day or two ahead of the check in rather than on the morning of it. It is usable the same evening, and it should not smoke the first time you heat it.
The kitchen window is painted shut. Does that stop you?
No, but it changes how the visit is set up. Fume free on a label means low odour and not flammable, which is not the same as non caustic, so we want air moving whatever the product claims. In a kitchen with no opening window that means the door to the yard or the hall stays open and a fan goes on the floor. It also makes the rinsing matter more, because residue left in a corner is what smokes on first heat.
Do you cover the whole of Bulwell?
Yes, all of NG6 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Bulwell?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Bulwell?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Market days fill the centre, and we group Bulwell with New Basford, Aspley and Hucknall on the rota.
