Oven Cleaning for Cinderhill homes
Two kitchen layouts, two jobs. The estate houses build the oven into a tall housing at chest height with a microwave stacked above it and nowhere to set a tray down. The interwar semis keep a freestanding cooker in a gap with worktop either side.
Cinderhill runs two cooker arrangements and they book as different jobs. On the newer estates the oven is built into a tall housing at chest height, usually with a microwave or a combination oven stacked above it in the same tower. That is comfortable to stand at and unhelpful in every other respect: the door drops open over a plinth rather than over a floor anybody can kneel on, and there is rarely a length of worktop within reach to take the glass and the racks. The older semis and terraces keep a freestanding cooker in a gap in the run with worktop either side. The hob splits the same way, induction or ceramic on the estates and gas burners with caps and pan supports on the older streets, and those are not the same added item.
Cinderhill sits in NG6, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly older terraces and interwar semis from the years the pit was working, with estates of newer houses, three storey townhouses and small closes built across the reclaimed colliery ground behind them, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Cinderhill oven cleaning jobs
A built-in oven vents forwards through a slot above its door, and in a tall tower that stream goes straight up onto the underside of whatever is stacked over it. So the find in these kitchens is not in the oven. It is on the base of the microwave in the same housing, on the underside of its trim, and along the front edge of the shelf between the two, where vented grease has dried to a hard amber film that a kitchen spray slides over without touching. It wants a degreaser and dwell time. The housing is faced board rather than solid timber, so nothing wet is left standing on a cut edge.
How a Cinderhill oven cleaning job actually runs
The practical constraint here is the walk from your kitchen to the van, because the removable parts are not cleaned in your sink. Racks, runners, trays, the grill pan and the burner parts go out to a heated tank in the van and soak there while the cavity dwells, so they make that trip twice, once dirty and once wet. From a drive on the newer estates that is a few steps. From the kerb on an older street with the bays full it is a proper carry, and worth saying when you book so the trays and sheeting come with us. Two other things set the timing. The oven has to be cold, which means nothing cooked in it that morning, and the visit runs for hours rather than minutes, so it wants a slot of its own rather than a gap between two other jobs. If you want the hob, the extractor and the microwave doing as well, say so at the booking rather than on the day, because several appliances in one visit take far less time than the sum of them and the tank only gets set up once.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Drives and allocated bays on the newer estates and on-street on the older roads, so parking is rarely the problem. Finding the address can be. The most recent plots are not always on a satellite map yet, so send the plot number when you book.
We run Cinderhill on the same round as Old Basford, Aspley and Highbury Vale.
What we check on every Cinderhill job
The worktop ends beside a freestanding cooker are the find on the older streets. A laminate top is chipboard with a plastic face, and the cut end next to a cooker is the most exposed inch in the kitchen: heat off the appliance side panel, steam off whatever is on the hob, and everything that has ever run down the gap all arrive at the same place. The edging strip lifts at the front corner first, moisture gets in behind it, and the board underneath swells so the surface stops sitting flat. Under the cooker the floor covering usually stops at the front edge of the appliance, so there is bare board or an older tile under there that nobody has seen since the kitchen went in. We clean both, we photograph a swollen end before we start rather than after, and we say plainly that it is a joinery repair, because no amount of cleaning takes a swollen edge back down.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- How the job is left: The housing the oven sits in, and the plinth below it
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Ceramic and induction: burnt sugar and boil-over taken off with a blade held flat, then polished
- The oven itself: Cavity roof, floor, sides and back, treated and left to dwell rather than scoured
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Charcoal filters checked and reported, since those are replaced rather than cleaned
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Cinderhill
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Cinderhill. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Ours is built into a tall unit at chest height. Does that make it a quicker job?
It makes it a more comfortable one, which is not the same thing. Nobody is on the floor, so the cavity and the door go faster. Against that, a built-in oven cannot be pulled out on its own feet the way a freestanding cooker can, the glass and the racks have to be laid somewhere that is not the worktop you cook on, and the housing around it is faced chipboard that we keep dry at every cut edge.
We have induction rather than gas. Is there anything for you to do to it?
Less, and it is priced as its own item either way. Induction and ceramic have no burner caps, crowns or pan supports to come off and soak, so the whole of it is the glass: burnt sugar and boil over taken off with a blade held flat to the surface, then polished. What takes the time on the older streets is the gas version, where the caps and the supports go into solution and the tray under the burners comes out.
Can you pull the cooker out to do behind it?
An electric one usually, if there is slack in the cable and the feet or rollers will move on the floor covering. A gas cooker stays where it stands. It sits on a bayonet fitting with a flexible hose, and taking it off that is gas work rather than cleaning, so we do the sides and as far back as the gap allows and tell you what could not be reached. Say which you have when you book.
Is the extractor worth adding on a newer house?
Check first what yours actually is. A lot of kitchens on these estates recirculate rather than vent outside, because the cooking wall is an internal one, and on a recirculating canopy the charcoal filter is the whole system. Charcoal is not cleanable, it is a replacement part, so we degrease the canopy and the metal mesh filter, check the charcoal and tell you what we found. On a vented hood the mesh filter holds the grease and it soaks with the racks.
Do you cover the whole of Cinderhill?
Yes, all of NG6 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Cinderhill?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Cinderhill?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Drives and allocated bays on the newer estates and on-street on the older roads, so parking is rarely the problem, and we group Cinderhill with Old Basford, Aspley and Highbury Vale on the rota.
