Oven Cleaning for Bestwood homes

Two different cookers on one round. The estate semis run to a built under single oven in a tall housing with a short worktop beside it, and the later closes nearer the park take a 90cm range with a ducted hood above it.

Which cooker you have here depends on when your part of the estate went up and what has been done to the kitchen since. The council built semis almost all carry a built under single oven set in a tall housing, with a four ring hob dropped into a worktop that runs a couple of metres before it meets the back door. That is one cavity and nowhere to put the parts down, so we arrive with our own bench. The closes laid out later, on the ground nearest the country park, were built with bigger kitchens, and a fair number of those now hold a 90cm range with two cavities under one fascia and a hood ducted through the wall above it. Same round, roughly twice the appliance, and it needs saying when you book.

Bestwood sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly postwar estate semis and short terraces laid out around wide grass verges, with 1970s and 1980s infill, and later private closes on the ground nearest the country park, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Bestwood oven cleaning jobs

The find is inside the housing rather than inside the oven. A built under cavity sits in a chipboard carcass, and heat with fat vapour escaping past the fascia swells the top edge of the base panel until the melamine lifts along the front lip. Below that the plinth clips off, and behind it is a dry crust of spillage that ran off the door years ago and set hard on the vinyl. Neither is reachable while the appliance is in place. The tall unit door immediately beside the oven is the other one, because a hand goes to it every time the door comes down, and the handle side carries a film nobody associates with cooking.

How a Bestwood oven cleaning job actually runs

An oven booked on its own is a fixed slot spent in one room, and the practical side of it is easy on this estate. There is somewhere to stand the van within a few paces of the door, so parts move out to the soak tank and back without anything being carried along a communal stair. Two things need settling when you book. The appliance has to be stone cold, which in practice means unused since the evening before, so a morning slot suits a household that cooks at night and an afternoon one suits a household that does not. And we need to know what else goes on the same visit, because the hob, the extractor and the microwave are each priced as their own item and each mostly wants dwell time rather than attention. Three appliances in one visit take nothing like three separate visits. If the kitchen has been opened into the dining room, mention it, since a cooker moved onto an internal wall almost always has a recirculating hood, and that changes what happens with the filters.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Wide roads and grass verges, and a drive or hardstanding on most properties, so parking rarely costs us time. The verges are the catch in winter: a van parked half on one leaves ruts, so we stay on the road and carry in.

We run Bestwood on the same round as Old Basford, Bulwell and Arnold.

What we check on every Bestwood job

The back plate is where the argument about a proper oven clean gets settled. On a fan oven the cavity you see through the door carries a fraction of the soil and the rest sits behind the plate shielding the fan, in a housing that has been recirculating burnt crumb for years. Where that plate is held on nuts rather than sealed in place it comes off, the housing is degreased and the fan blades are done individually, and that is what stops an oven smelling as it warms. The seal is the other check on this stock. A built under oven in a tall housing runs hotter around the door than a freestanding cooker, because there is less air behind it, and the seal goes hard and square instead of soft and round. We clean around it rather than soaking it, since a saturated seal perishes, and where yours has flattened at the corners we say so and tell you it is a part rather than a clean.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The oven itself: Fan cover and back plate removed where the model allows, and the housing behind it degreased
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Charcoal filters checked and reported, since those are replaced rather than cleaned
  • The oven itself: Door glass separated where the panes come out, so the space between them is cleaned
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Microwave interior, roof plate, turntable and door seal

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What oven cleaning costs in Bestwood

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Bestwood. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Our extractor is not vented outside. Does that change what you can do?

Only what is worth doing. Where an opened out kitchen has put the hob on an internal wall, the hood almost always recirculates rather than ducting through brickwork, which means a metal mesh filter you can wash and a charcoal cartridge you cannot. We degrease the mesh, the canopy and the grease trap, then check the charcoal and tell you the size to order. Washing a saturated charcoal filter achieves nothing, and leaving it in is why a kitchen still smells.

We have a range in one of the newer houses. Is that one booking or two?

One booking, priced as a range rather than as two ovens. A 90cm cooker has two cavities, two doors, two sets of runners and usually a separate grill pan, so it takes most of a morning on its own. The gain is that dwell time on one cavity runs while the other is being stripped, and the burner caps and pan supports soak through both. Tell us the width at the booking, because it decides the length of the slot.

Can we use the kitchen while you are working?

The sink and the worktop stay yours if you tell us where to set up, because we work off our own bench with the floor and the cupboard fronts sheeted. What you cannot use is the oven or the hob until we have rinsed through and put it back together, and children and animals need keeping out of the room while caustic product is dwelling in the cavity. Once we leave it is usable straight away, with no standing time and no smell on the first heat.

The oven is under the worktop and the kitchen is small. Is there room to work?

Yes, and it is the usual arrangement here. What takes up space is not us, it is the parts. Racks, runners, trays, a grill pan and the door glass all have to lie flat somewhere while they soak, which is what the folding bench is for, and it goes wherever you point rather than where we would like. Often that is the dining room. The path from the bench to the van needs to stay clear for the length of the visit.

Do you cover the whole of Bestwood?

Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Bestwood?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Bestwood?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Wide roads and grass verges, and a drive or hardstanding on most properties, so parking rarely costs us time, and we group Bestwood with Old Basford, Bulwell and Arnold on the rota.
