Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Bulwell homes

Rented terraces turned around between tenancies, and family homes on the estates wanting an annual clean. The two want the same machine and completely different conversations about what can be saved.

Two jobs again, and the commercial one is heavier. The entrance carpet in a unit near the market place takes market day footfall plus the fine dark grit that comes off the tram corridor, and it goes from new to grey in a season rather than a year. Domestically it is the front door terraces, where there is no hall to catch anything and the first two metres of the living room carpet does all the work that a hallway does in a semi. Both are abrasion problems dressed up as dirt, which is why leaving them until they look bad costs more in the end than a schedule does.

Bulwell sits in NG6, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly Victorian terraces around the market place, postwar estates toward Rise Park, and newer development along the tram corridor, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Bulwell carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs

Where a commercial unit has carpet tiles rather than broadloom, the economics change and it is worth knowing. Tiles can be lifted, cleaned individually or swapped for spares from a low traffic corner, so an entrance run that has gone beyond cleaning does not mean recarpeting the office. Keep the offcuts from the original fit if you still have them. On broadloom in these units the answer is usually a good barrier mat at the door, three metres of it rather than the small square most places buy.

How a Bulwell carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs

The machine decides the booking in a terrace. Portable extraction runs off a thirteen amp socket inside the property and fills from the kitchen tap, but on a larger job the unit stays in the van and the solution and vacuum hoses come in through the front door, and hose is a finite length. On a street under resident parking pressure that means the van wants a space in front of the house rather than round the corner, so we would far rather know the parking position when the job is booked than discover it on the morning. The hoses cross the step on a protector and the front door stays open while the work runs, which in January is worth planning for. Drying is the other half of the job. A mid terrace has no through draught with the doors shut, so windows go open at both ends of the house and air movers run wherever the room allows it. Two to six hours with air moving is normal, and longer in a back bedroom with one small window and nothing to pull air through it.

Who books it here

Domestic cleaning across the estates, and small commercial premises around the market place and above the shops, which is unusual for a residential area.

We run Bulwell on the same round as New Basford, Aspley and Hucknall.

What we check on every Bulwell job

Fibre is identified before anything wet reaches the pile, because the estate stock is largely polypropylene and the older houses run to wool, and the two behave nothing alike. Polypropylene shrugs off bleach but holds oily soil, so it goes grey rather than stained and the pre spray has to do the work. Wool wants a lower pH and less moisture. The colourfast test goes somewhere hidden, a wardrobe base or under a sofa. On staircases the nosing of each tread and the bottom three treads carry the concentrated wear of the whole house and are cleaned with a hand tool rather than a wand. Underlay is checked by pressing rather than assumed dry. Upholstery starts at the care label code, W, S, WS or X, and an X code is dry vacuum only whatever the fabric looks like. Protective tabs go under furniture feet and stay until the pile is dry, because a stained wooden leg on damp carpet does not come out.

What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Upholstery: Vacuumed with an upholstery tool, including down the sides and under cushions
  • Also covered: Pet urine, with enzymatic pre-treatment and extra dwell time
  • Carpets: Pile groomed, protective tabs under furniture legs
  • Also covered: Rugs, on site or collected

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Bulwell property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 8.

What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Bulwell

Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

PropertyTypical one-off
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Single room£35 to £60
Hallway, stairs and landing£45 to £85
2 bed flat, throughout£75 to £175
3 bed house, throughout£140 to £260
4 bed house, throughout£200 to £350

Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Upholstery, 3 seat sofa£45 to £90
Mattress clean£30 to £60
Pet urine treatment, per spot£15 to £40
Rug, per square metre£8 to £20

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Can office carpet be cleaned overnight so we do not lose trading time?

Yes, and for premises around the market place that is normally the sensible option. Extraction drying takes two to six hours with air moving, so an evening finish means the floor is ready for opening. Anything still damp the next morning points to over wetting rather than a slow carpet, so we plan the passes around the hours available.

Our shop entrance carpet is black again by Friday. Is cleaning even worth it?

Cleaning restores it, but on its own it is a treadmill. The grit arriving through that door is abrasive and it is grinding the fibre every time somebody walks in. A long barrier mat takes most of it out before it reaches the carpet, and with that in place a scheduled clean holds for months rather than days. We would rather say that than sell you a monthly visit.

Where does the van need to park for a carpet clean on a terraced street?

As near the front door as we can get, because the hoses run from the machine in the van into the house and there is a limit to how far they reach. If your street is permit only or usually full, say so when you book and we will either bring the portable unit and work from a socket inside, or arrange the visit for an hour when a space is likely. It is the single most useful thing you can tell us in advance.

There is only one small window in the back bedroom. Will the carpet dry?

Yes, but it wants help and it takes longer than the front rooms. With no cross draught, air movement has to be created, so we run an air mover in the room and open a window at the far end of the house to give the air somewhere to go. We also pull more passes on the extraction so less water goes in to begin with. Expect the back rooms to be the last ones you can put furniture back into.

Do you cover the whole of Bulwell?

Yes, all of NG6 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Bulwell?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Bulwell?

Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Market days fill the centre, and we group Bulwell with New Basford, Aspley and Hucknall on the rota.
