Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Bilborough homes
Estate semis with carpet throughout and a front door that opens more or less straight onto it. A barrier mat inside and out is the cheapest thing you can do between cleans, and almost nobody does it.
Hall, stairs and landing in one continuous run is the standard Bilborough job, because the layouts repeat and so does the carpet. That run holds the traffic lane from the front door, up the flight and across the landing, and it is where soil concentrates while the bedrooms stay almost untouched. Rented properties on these estates are often fitted with foam backed carpet, which behaves very differently from a hessian backed wool and dictates how much water can go down. On the practical side, road widths and on-street parking here are generous enough that we can run a hose from the van rather than working off a portable tank.
Bilborough sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly interwar and postwar estate housing, largely semis, with consistent room sizes and layouts, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Bilborough carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
Foam backed carpet is the thing to identify before the machine goes on. The backing is a bonded latex foam, and once it has aged it delaminates if it gets too wet, which shows up as a crumbly grey residue at the edges and a carpet that never quite dries. We check at a doorway threshold where the edge is visible. Where it is foam backed and past its best, we clean low moisture with more dry passes, which lifts less soil but does not destroy the carpet to prove a point.
How a Bilborough carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
Hall, stairs and landing is one job and it runs in one direction: from the landing down, finishing at the front door, so nobody has to walk back across wet carpet to get out. That matters on this stock because there is a single flight and no second route between floors, so the household is either upstairs or downstairs for a couple of hours and it is better to decide which before we start. Stairs take a hand tool and roughly a minute a tread, which is why they are timed separately from the flat areas instead of being folded into a room count. In the front room the suite has to come forward far enough to reach the traffic lane behind it, and in a through room that means shifting furniture into the dining end and putting it back afterwards. Drying is quicker here than people expect: open the back door, put the heating on low and get air moving up the stairwell, and the run is walkable again in a couple of hours.
Who books it here
Regular domestic cleaning on a fortnightly rota, and end of tenancy work on the rented stock. Layouts repeat, so quotes here are accurate from a description alone.
We run Bilborough on the same round as Wollaton, Aspley and Bulwell.
What we check on every Bilborough job
The dark lines along the skirting and under closed doors are filtration soiling rather than surface dirt. Air is drawn through the edge of the carpet where it meets the gripper rod, the fibre acts as a filter, and the pile stains from underneath. It needs an edge treatment and a hand tool rather than the wand, and it does not always clear completely, which is worth saying before the job rather than after it. The other places we check are the nosing of each tread, where wear and soil concentrate, the riser behind it, the base of the newel post where the carpet is cut around it, and the doorway bars, which trap grit under the metal edge. Castor cups and protective tabs go under everything before it goes back, because a metal castor standing on damp carpet leaves a rust ring that will not come out.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Upholstery: Embedded hair lifted with a rubber brush
- Carpets: Fibre identified and a colourfast test in an inconspicuous area
- Upholstery: Care label checked for the W, S, WS or X code before anything is applied
- Also covered: Mattresses, HEPA vacuumed with low-moisture spot treatment
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Bilborough
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
| Property | Typical one-off |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Single room | £35 to £60 |
| Hallway, stairs and landing | £45 to £85 |
| 2 bed flat, throughout | £75 to £175 |
| 3 bed house, throughout | £140 to £260 |
| 4 bed house, throughout | £200 to £350 |
Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Upholstery, 3 seat sofa | £45 to £90 |
| Mattress clean | £30 to £60 |
| Pet urine treatment, per spot | £15 to £40 |
| Rug, per square metre | £8 to £20 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The carpet is foam backed. Can it still be extracted?
Usually yes, with the water rate reduced and extra dry passes. Foam backing does not breathe like hessian, so it holds moisture underneath and an aged foam can start to break down if it is soaked. We look at an exposed edge first. If it is already crumbling at the threshold, we will tell you that a clean will tidy it rather than transform it, which is a fairer expectation than the alternative.
Can you park close enough to run the machine from the van?
On most Bilborough streets, yes, and that is genuinely useful. A van mounted or hose fed setup gives better heat and stronger recovery than a portable, so carpets come out drier and clean faster. Where a house is on a cul de sac head or the road is parked solid, we bring the portable machine instead and fill from the kitchen tap. Either way the price does not change.
The stairs are the only way up. How long are they out of use?
Around two hours with air moving, longer in damp weather with the house shut up. We work from the landing down and finish at the front door, so the flight is done in one go rather than in halves. If someone has to go up in the meantime, tell us and we will leave the top two treads until last. Wear shoes rather than socks when you do cross it, since socks pick up damp and carry it onto the landing.
There are dark lines along the hall skirting. Will cleaning shift them?
Partly. That is filtration soiling: air pulled through the carpet edge at the gripper rod stains the fibre from below, so it is in the pile rather than on top of it. In a hall where a single staircase acts as the air path for the whole house it is common and stubborn. We treat the edges by hand with a dedicated tool, which lifts most of it. Sealing the gap under the skirting is what stops it returning.
Do you cover the whole of Bilborough?
Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Bilborough?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Bilborough?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Good, with on-street parking and generous road widths, and we group Bilborough with Wollaton, Aspley and Bulwell on the rota.
