Deep Cleaning for Bilborough homes

Estate semis on an annual reset, where the repeating layout means we know before arriving that the oven and the extractor filter will be the two long jobs.

Because the houses repeat, so do the neglected corners, and a deep clean in Bilborough tends to hit the same five places in the same order. The oven, which on an estate semi is almost always the reason for the call. The bathroom, usually a nineties refit with a boxed bath panel and a tiled half wall. The airing cupboard round the cylinder. The kitchen kickboards and the gap under the units. And the cupboard under the stairs, which holds the meter, the vacuum, the Christmas boxes and a sloping soffit that has never been touched since the house was built. Knowing that in advance means the hours land where the dirt actually is.

Bilborough sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly interwar and postwar estate housing, largely semis, with consistent room sizes and layouts, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Bilborough deep cleaning jobs

The under stairs cupboard is the one that surprises people. It has a raking underside following the flight above, no light in most of these houses, and a rough plaster or bare timber finish that sheds a fine grey dust onto everything stored in it. It needs emptying, brushing down from the top of the slope, then vacuuming rather than wiping, because a damp cloth on that surface just makes mud. If the electricity meter is in there, we clean around it and never onto it.

How a Bilborough deep cleaning job actually runs

A deep clean here is one long day with the household still in the house, and the thing that shapes the day is the bathroom. These semis have one, usually with a separate WC beside it, so we take it as a single block in the middle of the day, say when it is going out of use, and hand it back before anyone needs it in the afternoon. Products go on in the first ten minutes: the oven, the extractor filter into the sink, descaler on the shower head and the taps. All of that is then left alone while we start upstairs. Ceilings on this stock are low compared with the Victorian streets closer to town, which means door tops, the loft hatch surround and the light fittings come off a small step rather than needing anything taller, and the high level work takes far less of the day than the floor area suggests. What absorbs the time instead is the kitchen, because it is nearly always the original footprint with later units dropped into it, and the space under those units has been shut since the day they went in.

Who books it here

Predictable layouts, which means quotes here are accurate from the description alone and rarely need revising on the day.

We run Bilborough on the same round as Wollaton, Aspley and Bulwell.

What we check on every Bilborough job

The extractor filter decides how the kitchen goes. A metal mesh filter comes out and soaks in the sink with hot water and degreaser. A charcoal cartridge cannot be washed at all and has to be replaced, so it is worth knowing which one is above the hob before the day starts. The bathroom fan on these houses ducts straight through the external wall, and its grille holds felted dust that a wipe smears rather than lifts, so it comes off and is brushed. Replacement windows carry trickle vents along the top of the frame with a hood at each end, and the hoods are always full. Kickboards clip or screw out at the base of the kitchen units and go back afterwards, which is the only way that gap gets reached. Grout on a tiled half wall is worked section by section rather than sprayed and left to run.

What the deep cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Fridge and freezer emptied, defrosted and washed including the seals
  • Bathrooms: Toilet including hinges, base and behind the pan
  • Everywhere else: Carpet edges, which a normal vacuum pass misses
  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Dishwasher filter and spray arms

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Bilborough property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 8.

What deep cleaning costs in Bilborough

A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

PropertyTypical one-off
Studio£110 to £180
1 bedroom£135 to £220
2 bedrooms£165 to £280
3 bedrooms£220 to £350
4 bedrooms£300 to £460

Our cost research puts a one-off deep clean of a two to three bedroom home at £165 to £350, which is the anchor the rest of this table is built around.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Single oven deep clean£45 to £80
Double oven£70 to £110
Range cooker£80 to £130

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The bath panel has never come off. Should it?

If it lifts easily, it is worth it once. On a nineties estate bathroom the panel is usually clipped or screwed, and behind it there is dust, a lost bottle or two and sometimes a slow weep at the trap that nobody knew about. We will take off a panel that is designed to come off. What we will not do is break a sealed or tiled in panel, since putting that back is a plumber's job.

Can a deep clean happen with us living in the house?

Yes, and on these estates it usually does. It works best if we take it room by room and you keep out of whichever one we are in, since fridge contents, oven racks and cupboard contents all end up on a worktop for part of the day. Clearing surfaces and floors the night before makes the biggest difference. Allow most of a working day for a three bedroom semi.

Will we lose the bathroom for the whole day?

No. There is one bathroom in most of these houses, so it gets its own block in the middle of the day rather than being spread across it. We tell you when the descaler goes on and roughly when it comes back, which is normally under two hours including the time the shower head spends soaking. The separate WC next to it stays usable throughout except for the short stretch when it is being done.

The kitchen units were fitted over the old floor. Can you get behind them?

Behind, no. Underneath, usually yes. The kickboards along the base clip or screw out, which opens the gap that has been closed since the units were installed, and that gap holds crumbs, packaging and a surprising quantity of grit. The units themselves are fixed to the wall and we leave them there. Where an appliance rolls forward on its feet we clean behind it and put it back on the same marks.

Do you cover the whole of Bilborough?

Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does deep cleaning cost in Bilborough?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start deep cleaning in Bilborough?

Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Good, with on-street parking and generous road widths, and we group Bilborough with Wollaton, Aspley and Bulwell on the rota.
