Deep Cleaning for Strelley homes

Estate deep cleans are kitchen led and predictable. Cottage ones run slower, because a winter of open fires and log burners has put fine ash through three rooms and the bathroom was fitted into a room never designed to be one.

Deep cleans divide the way the area does. On the estate it is a whole house reset built around the kitchen and the bathroom, and the oven is usually why the phone rang in the first place. In the village it is longer and has more decisions in it. Cottage bathrooms have been fitted into rooms that were never meant to be bathrooms, so there is a bath hard against a solid brick external wall, no extractor worth the name, and a window painted shut some time in the last thirty years. Open fires and burners are the other half of the job, because a winter of them has been loading the same three rooms since October.

Strelley sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly postwar city estate semis and short terraces along Strelley Road and Flamsteed Road, newer housing around Princess Boulevard, and a small group of listed brick and clay tile cottages in the village itself, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Strelley deep cleaning jobs

Ash is the part people underestimate. It rides convection currents rather than falling where it was dropped, so it settles on the top edge of picture frames, on the ceiling above the fireplace and into the weave of anything soft within a couple of metres of the hearth. Vacuuming it dry with an ordinary filter puts a good share of it straight back into the room. It wants HEPA extraction and a damp wipe worked downward, hearth last of all. On the estate side, the equivalent overlooked space is the deep airing cupboard left behind when the hot water tank came out, now holding towels and years of lint.

How a Strelley deep cleaning job actually runs

A deep clean here is a full day in the house rather than a visit, and that changes what has to be sorted out first. We need hot water, a working socket in most rooms and somewhere off the road for a vehicle for the whole of it, which on the estate usually means a garage court or a neighbour warned in advance. Most of these houses have one bathroom and one staircase, so if anybody is staying in while the work happens we agree the order of rooms at the start rather than negotiating it at midday. Clearing surfaces beforehand makes more difference than anything else you could do: a worktop, a windowsill and a bathroom shelf cleared of belongings is time that goes into cleaning instead of moving things and putting them back in the wrong place. Our own waste leaves with us. What we do not take away is household clearance, so if there are bags of things to go, book the council collection separately and let it happen before we arrive.

Who books it here

Two settlements with a dual carriageway between them. The estate side is uniform, with modern fittings and predictable rooms. Over the A6002 the village is a conservation area of listed cottages, a hall and a church, where the products get agreed before anyone starts rather than chosen on the day.

We run Strelley on the same round as Bilborough, Aspley and Wollaton.

What we check on every Strelley job

The water in this part of the city is hard, and it shows up in the same places house after house. A shower screen carries a milky film that reads as dirt and is actually scale bonded onto the glass, which no general purpose spray and no amount of effort will shift; it wants a descaler left to dwell and then a second pass. The worst of it is never on the flat of the pane, it is in the bottom track and around the fixings where water pools and sits. Taps show it on the underside of the spout, the one face nobody looks at, and in the joint where the tap meets the surface. Where scale has been left on chrome for years it has often taken the plating with it, and once that has happened, cleaning brings the shine back on the metal around the pitting and not on the pitting itself.

What the deep cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Bathrooms: Extractor vent, cabinet interiors, mirrors and chrome
  • Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Hob, including underneath the burner caps
  • Bathrooms: Shower head soaked or bagged with descaler
  • Everywhere else: Radiators, including between the fins and behind

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What deep cleaning costs in Strelley

A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£165 to £280

Typical one-off in Strelley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical one-off
Studio£110 to £180
1 bedroom£135 to £220
2 bedrooms£165 to £280
3 bedrooms£220 to £350
4 bedrooms£300 to £460

Our cost research puts a one-off deep clean of a two to three bedroom home at £165 to £350, which is the anchor the rest of this table is built around.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Single oven deep clean£45 to £80
Double oven£70 to £110
Range cooker£80 to £130

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Should the log burner be done as part of the deep clean?

The hearth, the surround and the door glass, yes. The flue is a sweep's job and an annual certificate, and it is not work we take on. If a sweep is booked, have him in before us rather than after. Sweeping puts a surprising amount back into a room, and running the two the wrong way round means paying for the same surfaces twice in a fortnight.

The mould in our cottage bathroom keeps coming back after cleaning.

Then cleaning is not what will fix it. A bath against a solid external wall, a window painted shut and an extractor that moves nothing leaves water condensing on the coldest surface in the room, and it will carry on doing that whatever we put on the tiles. We will clean it properly, show you where the cold surface is, and tell you straight if the sealant has gone past the point cleaning helps.

Can a deep clean be done in half a day?

Not properly. A deep clean is the oven, the extractor, tiling, inside cupboards, skirting, frames and behind whatever can be moved, and the value of it is that everything happens in one sequence, top down, so nothing lands back on a surface that has already been finished. Splitting it across two dates means cleaning the same air twice. If a full day genuinely is not possible, we would rather do a couple of rooms thoroughly and book the rest in than rush the lot.

Do we have to be out of the house while it is done?

You do not have to be, though most people find it easier not to be. We work room by room with doors shut and equipment running, so the house is not comfortable to sit in while it happens. If you are staying, pick a room to be in and say so at the start, and it gets done first or last. Either way somebody needs to be reachable, because a deep clean throws up questions about what is to be moved and what should be left alone.

Do you cover the whole of Strelley?

Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does deep cleaning cost in Strelley?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start deep cleaning in Strelley?

Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. The estate half is easy: wide roads, verges, garage courts behind the terraces and off-street space at many properties, and we group Strelley with Bilborough, Aspley and Wollaton on the rota.
