Deep Cleaning for Wollaton Park homes
The hours go into small items rather than floor area: window frames divided into a dozen panes each, tiled hearths in the bedrooms, shelving loaded two rows deep. A bedroom count tells you almost nothing about any of it.
What decides a deep clean here is the number of separate slow items rather than the size of the house, and this estate is unusual in how many of them are still in place. Where the original glazing survives, every opening is a grid of small panes with a frame round each one. Bedrooms have their tiled fireplaces and hearths. Radiators hang close to the wall with nothing that reaches behind them. A study wall of shelving is loaded two rows deep, and the shelf edges have to be done individually. Add all that up and a five bedroom house holds close to a hundred separate small jobs, which is why an estimate built from floor area comes in at roughly half the hours the work honestly takes.
Wollaton Park sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly substantial 1920s and 1930s houses put up as a single scheme, semis and detached, on wide tree lined avenues with generous plots and the same detailing repeating street after street, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Wollaton Park deep cleaning jobs
The radiators are the original panel type in a lot of these houses, hung tight to the wall on their brackets with barely a gap behind. Everything landing on the top grille goes down the back and stops on the skirting, where the heat bakes it slightly and it stops behaving like loose dust. A vacuum nozzle cannot reach it and a duster only drives it further down. What works is a long flexible brush passed down between the panel and the wall with the vacuum held at the bottom to take what falls out, then the skirting wiped once the loose material has gone rather than before.
How a Wollaton Park deep cleaning job actually runs
A deep clean in a house this size is a day at least and often two, so most of the practical questions are about the day rather than the work. We need a working tap and power for machines, somewhere for the van, and a decision on where the household will be, because a room being sat in is a room we come back to. Most people go out for the first day and keep to one room on the second. Say at the outset what sits outside the scope, since the loft, the garage, the outside store and the back of the airing cupboard are the ones that get assumed either way. It also pays to fix the order. Deep cleaning is worth doing after any decorating or joinery rather than before, after new carpet has gone down rather than before it, and ahead of a house being filled for Christmas rather than in the same week, when we are working round a delivery and a family arriving. Booking it into a week with nothing else happening in the house is half of getting it right.
Who books it here
One specification across the whole estate, so the fittings repeat from house to house: steel casement windows in the original openings, tiled fireplaces upstairs as well as down, rooms sized for furniture that is no longer made. What differs between two houses on an avenue is how much of it survived.
We run Wollaton Park on the same round as Wollaton, Lenton and Lenton Abbey.
What we check on every Wollaton Park job
The ceilings are high and most rooms still carry their plaster detail: a picture rail, a run of cornice, a moulded rose round the light. The top edge of a picture rail is a shelf nobody sees from the floor, and it holds a grey felt of dust that a duster on a pole pushes about rather than lifts. In a room where the fire still gets used it is not dust alone but soot bound into it, and that marks paintwork the moment it is wiped wet. So it comes off dry first, vacuumed with a brush head from a step rather than swept downwards onto the wall, and only then does a damp cloth go anywhere near it. Older ceilings are worth testing in a corner beforehand, since some are still distemper and will powder off onto the floor.
What the deep cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Inside, on top of and underneath all cupboards
- Bathrooms: Toilet including hinges, base and behind the pan
- Kitchen, which is about 40% of the time: Oven interior, racks, side runners, door glass and grill pan
- Bathrooms: Limescale removed from taps, shower head, screen, tiles and grout
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full deep cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What deep cleaning costs in Wollaton Park
A one-off deep clean, priced as a job rather than by the hour. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

Typical one-off in Wollaton Park. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

| 2 bedrooms | £165 to £280 |

Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Single oven deep clean | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker | £80 to £130 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The tiled fireplace in the bedroom has never been cleaned properly. What is safe on it?
A neutral cleaner, a soft brush along the joints, and time. Nothing acidic. Glaze of this age is often finely crazed by now, and an acid descaler works into those cracks, dulls the surface permanently and eats at the grout beside it. Old soot in the joints lifts with contact time rather than pressure. Any bare iron in the middle gets dried the moment we finish, because it will spot with rust if it sits wet overnight.
Is it better to deep clean before we redecorate, or after?
After, for the dust. There is a case for a quick pass beforehand as well, because paintwork of this age has layers underneath that may be lead based, and a decorator taking those back produces something worth removing properly rather than spreading through the house. What we would not do is book the full job for the week before the work starts. Have the real one once the last coat is dry and the rooms have been aired.
How long will it take, and do we need to be out of the house?
It turns on how many rooms there are and how much detail is still in them, so we look before quoting rather than guessing from a bedroom count. As a rule, plan for a full day and expect the second to be shorter. You do not have to leave, but the work goes quicker if you are out for the first of them, when floors are wet, furniture is moved and machines are running. Give us one room to keep our kit in and a tap we can use.
The stairwell goes up two storeys. Can you reach the top of it?
Usually, though with the right platform rather than a longer ladder. A ladder cannot be footed safely on a flight of stairs, so the high wall, the light fitting and the head of the window get done from a platform that stands level on the treads, or with poles from the landing. If the fitting is heavy, glass, or wired in awkwardly we will say so rather than take it down. Tell us before the visit so the kit comes with us on the day.
Do you cover the whole of Wollaton Park?
Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does deep cleaning cost in Wollaton Park?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how long it has been since the last one, the state of the oven, and how many bathrooms need descaling. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start deep cleaning in Wollaton Park?
Within a week or two normally, longer in March and April and through November when everyone books at once. Nearly every house has a drive, so a space is rarely the issue, and we group Wollaton Park with Wollaton, Lenton and Lenton Abbey on the rota.
