Domestic Cleaning for Wollaton Park homes

The rooms in daily use and the rooms that are not divide sharply here. A dining room opened twice a year wants airing and dusting rather than scrubbing, and settling that at the start puts the hours where the household actually lives.

Most of these houses hold more rooms than the household uses, and the first useful conversation is about which ones those are. The plan generally gives you a front room kept for visitors, a back room where everybody actually sits, a study, four or five bedrooms and a bathroom that was designed into the house rather than carved out of it later. A room opened twice a year does not want what the kitchen wants. It wants airing, dusting and a window left open. So we agree a standing list for the rooms taking daily traffic and put the others on a rotation that comes round properly, which lands the hours where the dirt is instead of spreading them evenly across a house nobody uses evenly.

Wollaton Park sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. Regular domestic help is most of it, in households where both adults work and the house holds more rooms than the week has evenings. Deep cleans once a year, carpet and upholstery more often than average, and a run of houses let to university staff, which changes hands in September rather than July.

What we run into on Wollaton Park domestic cleaning jobs

The window boards under the casements are deeper than a modern sill and they carry everything: plants, post, a radio, books that never made it back to a shelf. They are also where the water ends up on a cold morning, running off the steel above and collecting along the back edge against the wall. Paint there has been recoated so many times it is soft, and it will not take scrubbing. We lift whatever is standing on the board instead of wiping round it, work with a barely damp cloth, and dry that back angle properly, because water left sitting in it is what lifts the paint and then blackens the timber beneath.

How a Wollaton Park domestic cleaning job actually runs

Settle access before anything else, because it is what goes wrong here rather than the cleaning. A lot of these houses sit well back behind a hedge with a long front path, and on the avenues without off street parking a van has to wait on the road while everything is carried in. Where there is a drive it usually runs down the side to a garage at the back, so tell us whether to use it or leave it clear for your own car. Most households give us a key and an alarm code rather than being in, and some prefer a key safe fixed inside the porch. Either is fine, provided the side gate is not bolted from the inside, which is the commonest reason somebody stands outside a house they have the key to. We hold the same slot each week so the household can plan round it, and the one thing that moves it is a large event day in the park, when the roads round the estate fill up and we would rather rearrange than arrive late and rush the visit.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Nearly every house has a drive, so a space is rarely the issue. Where a verge runs under the street trees we keep off it. The houses sit well back, so equipment comes a fair way in from the gate.

We run Wollaton Park on the same round as Wollaton, Lenton and Lenton Abbey.

What we check on every Wollaton Park job

Halls and dining rooms in these houses often still have the original wood block floor, laid in a herringbone pattern and bedded in black pitch. The blocks butt tight against each other with no seal in the joints, so water finds its way down between them, swells the end grain and lifts one block proud of its neighbours. Once one has moved the ones around it follow, and there is no putting it back with a mop. A mop wet enough to leave a shine behind it is already too wet for this floor. We vacuum first with a brush head, because grit dragged across a waxed block is what dulls it, then work with a cloth or mop wrung out until it is barely damp, following the run of the blocks rather than flooding a section and coming back to it later.

What the domestic cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Bedrooms and living areas: Beds made, or changed if clean linen is left out
  • Bedrooms and living areas: Hard floors mopped
  • Kitchen: Hob and splashback exterior
  • Kitchen: Floor swept and mopped

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full domestic cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What domestic cleaning costs in Wollaton Park

Regular domestic cleaning, per visit, at a typical company rate. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£50 to £70

Typical per visit in Wollaton Park. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per visit
1 bed flat£40 to £50
2 bed£50 to £70
3 bed£60 to £80
4 bed£80 to £100

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Regular domestic, per hour£17 to £25
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

We both work full time. How long does a house this size actually need?

It turns on how many rooms are genuinely lived in rather than on the bedroom count. Four bedrooms with two in use, a kitchen, two bathrooms and one sitting room is a manageable regular visit. The same house with a study worked in daily, a playroom and a dining table cleared every evening is not. Tell us which rooms carry the traffic and we will say honestly what fits inside the time you want to book.

There are books on open shelving in half the rooms. Does that slow a regular visit down?

It does, so it is worth deciding what you want from it. Running a cloth along the shelf edge and the front of the books takes minutes. Taking books off to do the shelf and the wall behind them is a deep clean item and not something a routine visit absorbs. What we suggest is the edges and the fronts every time, plus one bay of shelving properly emptied and done each visit, which brings a whole wall round over a few months.

The dog is at home during the day and has the run of the house. Does that matter?

Not usually, but tell us his habits before the first visit rather than after it. We need to know whether he is shut in one room, whether he can be left with somebody he does not know, and above all whether he goes out through the side gate, because that gate gets opened and closed all morning while things are carried in. If he is nervous of the vacuum we do that room while he is elsewhere in the house and pull the door to behind us.

We are away for weeks at a time in the summer. What happens to the booking?

Tell us the dates as soon as you have them and we will hold the slot rather than give it away. An empty house does not need the usual visit, but it is worth one before you come back. Rooms shut up for weeks smell shut up, and dust settles on everything even with nobody moving about. We open windows, air the bedrooms, do the bathrooms and the kitchen and take the floors, so you walk back into a house that has been lived in.

Do you cover the whole of Wollaton Park?

Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does domestic cleaning cost in Wollaton Park?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the bathroom count more than the bedroom count, how often we come, and whether there are pets. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start domestic cleaning in Wollaton Park?

Usually within a week for a regular rota, and we will tell you the day rather than a window. Nearly every house has a drive, so a space is rarely the issue, and we group Wollaton Park with Wollaton, Lenton and Lenton Abbey on the rota.
